Ferris Wheel Press Carousel Inkwell

I decided to buy the expensive fancy inkwell, and as much as I love it… it’s really just a pretty desk decoration. (*´▽`*) For the price of $55, it is teensy tiny, with a lid that 100% relies on its own weight to just sit on top of the glass. There is a flat silicone gasket, but the lid does not screw on nor does it pop on like a fitted cork, so if you somehow manage to knock over the bottom-heavy glass, the lid will definitely fall immediately off. Σ੧(❛□❛✿)

Since I had a lucky windfall to justify the purchase, I love the pretty thing and it does function as a small decanter from my larger bottle of custom mixed ink. But as much as spinning it idly just does something for the undiagnosed whatever I got going on, it quite spectacularly failed at actually mixing any of the mica powder that settled on the bottom. σ(^_^;)

Suffice to say, it makes for a great gift (aka if you didn’t have to buy it yourself), but if a normal, functional inkwell with a leakproof lid is what you want, this ain’t it. (≧∇≦)

Hand Tooled Leather Palm Quire

In light of finishing my handmade nib holder I realized I never posted the palm quire I made! σ(n_n;) Hand tooled veg-tan leather supported by sandwiched leather board, dyed black and beeswaxed for protection, with all silver metal. It’s also a true quire, meaning 24 sheets of paper. (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

And yes, first thing my husband said when I finished it was that it looks like an ice cream sandwich. (≧∇≦)

Hand carved my own nib holder

This show, and Shirahama herself, got me so inspired by the care and dedication that goes into their drawing wands that I decided to ditch my plastic nib holder and hand carve a hunk of ebony into my own holder. (≧∇≦) Am I insane? Perhaps, if you know anything about how painfully hard it is to carve ebony wood (ask my sprained pinky finger and all of my now-dull tools).

There’s just something inherently magical about the way the Japanese traditional crafts are dedicated to the idea that items should be made well and be used for a lifetime. It makes one really consider that the items you’re using in your daily life, such as the pen a witch uses to draw their spells, should be things carefully designed for the user. (*´▽`*)

While I do consider crafts as a form of fanart, I also understand if the mods feel this is too far removed from the show itself for this subreddit. Even still, the care I put into making my new drawing pen was absolutely 100% inspired by Witch Hat Atelier and of course, Shirahama-sensei’s own use of dip pens.

Finished Ebony Nib Holder

I finally finished the nib holder I started carving last month! It polished up so beautifully, I’m so happy how it turned out. (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) Thank you so much for the advice I received on this subreddit! (≧∇≦) It was pretty interesting carving and engraving wood with my Dremel initially, which is evident by the less than spectacular filigree design on one of the ribbons… and the sprained pinky finger I gave myself. σ(-_-;)

I polished it up to 600 and then hit it with a felt wheel and some food grade mineral oil. It’s so shiny and smooth, this wood is absolutely amazing even with my minimal woodworking skills.

Also please ignore my ghostly white hand, I had to up the exposure by a lot because my God this wood is so dark it barely photographs, I love how deep the color is irl. (*´▽`*)

Hand Carved Ebony Wood Nib Holder

I finally finished the nib holder I started carving last month! It polished up so beautifully, I’m so happy how it turned out. (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) It can only hold crow quills as the Hunt 102 is my favorite to draw with, so I didn’t add a fancy ferrule to it. Naught but a simple drilled hole with a tight tolerance. (≧∇≦)

Please ignore my ghostly white hand, I had to up the exposure by a lot because my God this wood is so dark it barely photographs. Also ignore literally all of the filigree carving, this was my first time engraving anything, with a Dremel no less, and it shows. σ(-_-;)

For the woodworkers, after somehow spraining a pinky finger carving with a mix of Dremel bits and hand files, I sanded the piece by hundreds up to 600, then soft polished with a felt wheel and food-grade mineral oil.

Some limited edition items I’m told are cool

My husband pointed out some of the things I own are very rare/exceptionally expensive to find now, which I hadn’t considered since I’ll never sell anything Kingdom Hearts that I have. (≧∇≦) But I have the 10th anniversary edition of KH3D that came with the clear case for the OG 3Ds, as well as a few enamel pins from the various games that had them.

Because I know I’ll never sell anything, I also use these things to hell and back, so mine is horrendously scratched up from over a year of use before I finally got a 3Ds XL. 😅 I’m surprised the 2.5 pin still has its keychain honestly. A Disney Adult™ once nearly begged me on hands and knees to pin-trade them for it, to which I realized I probably shouldn’t be wearing it out and about if it’s any amount of valuable.

Does anyone else still have these or the clear case, and are they still in good condition too?

Need some assistance

Found these two speakers while helping my FIL clear out his old shop. He has no idea if they still work or not (the shop is over 50 years old and the man himself is 75) but I would appreciate if anyone could tell me if they’re worth potentially putting any work into revitalizing or just pure junk destined for the garbage. (≧∇≦) (I know the box is just thick plywood with a cheap peeling veneer, so that ain’t worth nothing on its own.)

Need some idea inspiration

I’m working on an ebony nib pen holder, but I can’t decide what to do with the spiral. I made a mistake and used the heaviest wood I’ve ever personally worked with for a handheld object and now I am tasked with finding a good design to cover hollowing out the tail bit purely for weight alleviation. σ(-_-;) I have a plastic holder who’s shape I I kinda liked but it’s way too thin for my hand to comfortably hold for long drawing sessions.

I was thinking of drilling through from one spiral groove to the other so they’ll look a bit like two ribbons twirling around each other, but I’m not sure. If anyone has any good design ideas I’d really appreciate it! ♪〜(´▽`)
