Yinz Like RISK N’at?

Good afternoon!

I’m starting this thread with permission from one of the moderators, but I’m doing it with the understanding that a different mod might remove it for being too narrow.

Anyway, are there any RISK players around? I’d like to organize a weekend, or every other weekend, RISK game. My preferred game mode is Capital Conquest, and I know that would be a lot of rolling, but there are free RISK roll randomizers available that can be used to cut that down and condense games to a reasonable timeframe.

Anyway, that it has to be a Saturday or Sunday is not negotiable for me; we’d also meet in a public area. I think The Galleria (Mount Lebanon) could be good because it has a fair amount of seating and I often see people playing games there. That said, I’m open to any suggestion as long as it’s in the South Hills. I also wouldn’t have a problem picking someone up/dropping off if they don’t have wheels and the location is inconvenient for them.

Anyway, RISK group, weekends (or every other), South Hills-show of hands?

The Position I Don’t Understand

Disclaimer: I am not a server; I’m in healthcare.

First of all, good morning to all of you; I hope that we can engage in a civil discussion on this one.

I’d also say that there are positions against tipping that I do understand: I understand that some people resent the (real or perceived) social pressure of tipping; I also understand that some people resent servers who have an, ‘Entitled attitude.’ Now, as to the last part, I definitely believe that doesn’t reflect the majority of servers, I also think some people might be extrapolating one, or a few, experiences to the entire server population…but it’s not really for me to argue against someone’s perception; we all perceive things differently.

The position I don’t understand is this: We all know that if a restaurant were to eliminate tipping and pay servers directly, by which, I mean, you are ABSOLUTELY not allowed to tip-servers would make less money.

Now, some people speak as though servers who wouldn’t want this are entitled; how is it entitled, though, to not want to make less money for doing the same job?

But, that’s actually minor.

What really confuses me is the people who decry serving as an entry-level job and actively attack servers on the basis of they make too much money. Servers will (correctly) point out that they don’t always make a ton, and will point to averages, to which the anti-tippers will counter that there are unclaimed tips not being accounted for.

Even that is basically fine.

The position that I REALLY don’t understand, however, is when servers are attacked based on not being perceived as worth what they’re making. It’s almost as if people are looking at what servers do and saying, “That job shouldn’t pay that much.”

Now, even if those people were right (given that it’s a subjective opinion), how is this, in any way, some kind of grave injustice? It almost comes off as either contempt or jealousy, but couldn’t people just try to become servers, if they wanted, were they jealous?

And, if we’re going to attack people on the premise that they make more than they’re worth, wouldn’t CEO’s and other corporate types, who sit in boardrooms and **** each other off all day, and also have golden parachutes even if they are ousted, be a better target?

So, that’s the position that I don’t understand and, I think, actually worsens the anti-tipping side’s overall position. It’s like, even if servers were undeserving…oh my God, they’re making (likely lower-middle) middle-class income for work that some don’t consider a middle-class job—-who gives a crap? I just think that any position that advocates for, “This category of workers should have less earnings than they currently do,” is going to be a non-starter for a lot of people.

So, can anyone who has actual animosity towards servers for making what they make explain why they feel that is a meritorious position?

Did You Know? (Vanilla)

Did you know you can switch sides during the Civil War questline?

I imagine a great many of you did, but perhaps some of you haven’t watched every Skyrim video ever and would find this interesting.

Regardless of what side you start on, your ability to switch sides takes place during The Jagged Crown. You’ll complete the quest as normal, probably tearing through countless of the enemy, but all is forgiven when you deliver The Jagged Crown to…the opposite side!!!

The appropriate party on the other side will eventually accept The Jagged Crown, allow you to join and then the quest will essentially progress almost as though you were always on that side.

Thanks, Levy!

Check out this #chess game: CeaselessGomalu vs Rohitbala2008 - https://www.chess.com/game/live/170835946632

I’m calling it a day, for now, but thanks to Levy, I capped off a four game winning streak with my second most accurate game yet!

Also, according to ChessSigma, my knight sacrificing to create a check, threaten the bishop and improve my position was brilliant!

Alright, now get outta here!

Magic is Ridiculous…That’s Why I Love It!

Here’s what we had going on today:

I took a bit of a break, so no chance of completing this Mastery Pass; I normally won’t reroll my daily if it’s something my decks like, even if only 500.

Anyway, I get attack with 45 creatures; that’s something I can normally do, but I got a lot of people conceding, so it wasn’t working out. As everyone knows, you want (at least) four daily wins; I was at eight, but just over half done with the daily.

I’d also had some long and complicated games that required decision-making and analyzing potential lines-won a few and lost a couple, as Magic goes.

So, I said, “Screw it.” Red deck in Pioneer, 18 lands, all I care is that the other 42 are one drops with haste.

Not only did I win, there was no room for doubt; completed the daily, too. I didn’t even cast my last creature because I didn’t want the opponent to concede before I queued my attack.

Anyway, that’s why I love Magic; it’s just stupid, sometimes. This deck had no business winning. I prefer long drawn out games with ebb and flow, slight advantages shifting and several decision points. At the same time, you can win with the dumbest deck ever.

Can it be annoying to be on the wrong side of that? Sure. But, if you really stop and think about it, that’s what keeps the game balanced and fun. You never know what’ll happen.
