What is it like living in Albany, OR as a Mexican woman?
Hi! I’m 23F, Mexican, and currently live in Stockton, CA. I recently came across the Diagnostic Imaging/Radiologic Technology program at Linn-Benton Community College and was kind of shocked by how much more affordable it is than a lot of the programs I’ve been looking at in California.
I’m nowhere near committed to moving yet lol, I’m really just exploring the idea and trying to figure out if it would even be realistic. I’ve visited Oregon before and absolutely loved the scenery, weather, forests, etc., but visiting somewhere is obviously very different from actually living there.
For people who live in Albany or the surrounding area, what is it actually like?
I’m especially curious about:
How welcoming/diverse the area is, particularly for Mexican/Latino people
Whether you’ve experienced much racism or discrimination
Cost of living/rent for a young couple
Safety and which areas you would/wouldn’t recommend
Things to do for people in their early 20s
How easy it is to make friends
Weather and what the winters are actually like
Anything that surprised you after moving there
Experiences with Linn-Benton Community College, especially the Diagnostic Imaging program if anyone happens to know about it
I’d potentially be moving with my boyfriend, so I wouldn’t be completely on my own. My family would still be in California, which is probably the part that makes me most nervous about considering somewhere out of state.
I’d love to hear from people who actually live there, especially anyone who moved from California or another more diverse area. Good and bad experiences are both welcome! I’m just trying to get a realistic picture of what life there is like. :)
