Ayn Thor Pro memory issue ? - PES 2021 case
Hi everyone,
I’ve been using the Ayn Thor Pro (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 12 GB RAM) for a few weeks now. Overall, everything works well and I’m generally very happy with the device.
However, I’ve run into one issue that seems a bit strange, and I haven’t been able to solve it—even though, in theory, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Emulation of PES2021 (PC)
For those who don’t know: it is possible to run the PC version of PES 2021 via Winlator. There are several videos online showing people running it on Snapdragon-based devices with smooth, playable performance.
What’s more, I’ve seen the game running successfully on:
- Odin 2 Base (SD8 Gen 2, 8 GB RAM)
- Retroid Pocket 5 / Flip 2 (SD865, 8 GB RAM)
I personally know someone I trust who managed to get it working on both of those devices.
For anyone interested, here’s an example video with recommended Winlator version and settings:

My issue on the Thor Pro
When I try to run the game on my Thor Pro using the same Winlator version, settings, resolution, etc., the game is extremely unstable.
Based on my observations:
- The game works best on the first launch after creating a fresh container. It loads, I can play a match, but the gameplay is not very smooth.
- On subsequent launches, most attempts end in a crash during the first intro scenes.
- On the bottom screen, I can see RAM usage. The crash usually happens when RAM usage reaches around 10.5 GB. This makes me suspect the instability is related to RAM management.
What I don’t understand is this:
How is it possible that the game runs more reliably on devices with 8 GB of RAM, while the Thor Pro has 12 GB?
Things I’ve already tried
- Enabling/disabling Android Swap RAM
- Different Thor android performance modes
- Various Winlator settings (CPU affinity, drivers, startup selection, custom Box64 presets)
- Running the game from internal storage vs SD card
- Different Winlator versions etc.
- Different versions of the game itself
Every time I manage to launch the game, the result is similar:
- unstable behavior
- choppy gameplay (if it launches at all)
- frequent crashes on repeated launches
Questions
Is anyone able to help or has any ideas what else I could try?
Has anyone experienced something similar?
This situation feels quite odd. Maybe it’s an issue with how RAM is managed in Thor’s OS?
Perhaps it’s handled differently on the Odin 2?
Or could the dual-screen setup be consuming additional RAM?
I’m honestly not sure—but any insight would be greatly appreciated.
