I tried to build Tom Riddle’s diary – Dear Diary
If you've watched Harry Potter, you probably remember Tom Riddle's diary.
A diary that didn't just store what you wrote.
It remembered. It responded. It knew things.
That idea stuck with me.
So I started building Dear Diary — a private, ongoing project inspired by that idea.
You write your thoughts naturally. The diary remembers them. And later, you can ask it things like:
“What was I working on back then?”
“What did I decide about this?”
I wanted it to feel less like using another productivity app and more like writing into a diary that actually remembers you.
Dear Diary is currently private, but it's powered by Gray Box — my open-source, local-first personal knowledge system.
So if you're curious about what's underneath the diary, you can check out Gray Box in the meantime.
Maybe the real magic wasn't that Tom Riddle's diary could talk.
Maybe it was that it remembered.
