Can a highly acute/observant person TRULY not care about what other people think?

I've been pondering this question for a while and wanted everyone's thoughts about it.

Here are my definitions:

Acute/Observant -

Having high pattern recognition for behaviors and their root causes (Insecurity, ego-driven, etc). Basically automatically analyzing 24/7.

Not caring -

- Indifference to judgement about YOU

I'm not sure if this question is structured coherently or makes sense the way I put it, so I apologize if it is confusing...

COMPLETE BEGINNER needs help ESP32...

Hi guys,

I accidentally bought the ESP32 rather than UNOR3 without knowing this is much more advanced stuff. I have never touched electronics before and only know about the basics of electricity and coding.

What would you guys recommend for a COMPLETE BEGINNER to get started?
(Youtube channels, books, etc)

I'M TIRED OF MY MUSIC TASTE!

I would LOVE to get some song/artist recommendations from people

I've been listening to the same songs, same artists, same playlists for too long, and I want to expand my horizon with music because I feel like I have never gotten deep into it.

To give you a sense of what I was listening to before:

- Mainly R&B + Indie Pop (Tame Impala, Drake, Brent Faiyaz, MacDeMarco, Faye Webster, Daniel Caesar)

- Occasional rap + classical

I have no criteria and open to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING

Most mind-boggling topics?

Hi guys,

What are some of the coolest, non-intuitive phenomenon you've researched or came across and why?

I wanted to expand my horizon with physics by taking some of the ideas and looking deeper into it whether it's why light bends in sugar water or the rabbit hole of infinite universes and multi-dimensional worlds

What is an engineering mechanism that made you think "Wow, that's genius"

Hi guys,

I've been trying to broaden my horizon with applications of engineering and wanted your opinion on some of the coolest/craziest things you've seen, researched, or just thought about.

Shenzhen University Language Program

Hello guys!

I am looking at the SZU Language Program for International Students but cannot find much relevant information on the website.

I wanted to ask what people think of the program and if it would be a good fit for the following:

- Exposure to technology/business of China (Company visits, business Chinese, etc)

- Reputable language course

I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Hopelessly lost (Almost)

Hi guys,

I’ve been trying to understand the visual representation of matrices and I can’t wrap my head around it.

I’m approaching it like 3Blue1Brown does, through vectors, but once it gets further than 2x2, I don’t understand it.

Are these transformations shifting the plane itself? All the 2D transformations look 3D…

For the ones with much more experience under their belt, any recommendations on how to approach or understand better?

Any help would be appreciated 🙏🙏

Hotel + Airline + Card Ecosystem (Asia + Europe)?

Hello everyone,

For someone getting into the travel game, I would appreciate some help to figure out the best combinations for this situation.

Context:
- Frequently flying within Asia (China, Korea, Japan, Malaysia/Singapore) and Western Europe

My priorities:

- Good convenience & price-performance
- Mutually beneficial ecosystem
- Nothing more than $100 for credit card & membership fee
- Easy to get and maintain status - ex. Star Alliance Gold

What I've looked into:
- All Accor Live Limitless + Qatar Airways Partnership
- IHG One Rewards Premier Card + ANA

If someone is in a similar situation, or have any recommendations, please share your thoughts! Ofcourse, I cannot have it all, but I would like a better idea where to put my energy for the next couple of years.

Thanks!!

Economics or Engineering?

Hello guys,

I am a gap year student coming from a U.S. highschool AP education system. I want to ask others about choosing between engineering and economics because I am interested in both but the type of people I meet and possible direction with careers look different. Thinking about my masters afterwards, I feel like it would be easier to get into economics / finance after a general engineering degree but harder the other way around.

Context: Since a young age, I haven't been hands on with many things - I'm more of a theory type of guy who likes to think about things deeper. Always have excelled at math in school, less for humanities. But like macroeconomic trends and how the global order is changing.

I was originally set on economics with these 3 top options and 2 others as more backup, but I am recently having doubts. I think for long-term, so doing an engineering course like the general engineering science at Oxford will help me become a more well rounded person who can still pursue the business/economics/finance side of things during my masters with an overall idea of how the world works through the engineering education.

Economics

- Oxford - History and economics
- LSE - Economics and economic history
- Imperial - Economics, finance, and data science

What do you guys think? I'd appreciate any thoughts, experiences, and comments.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

For anyone who has done general engineering course and specialized later, how was it? Is it very different than starting out with a specialized engineering? What does a day to day look like? What type of people do you meet?

For some context, I am currently taking a gap year and after I want to go to university in the UK and possibly pursue general engineering.

I’m deciding between economics and engineering but I am not completely sure if I will like engineering. I think learning engineering first rather than economics will be more convenient because I think it will be harder to learn engineering later, but I’m not sure. I like math, and I like more theoretical things rather than directly hands on.

I’d appreciate any advice and/or experiences about general engineering courses!
