Treatment for disc desiccation? And questions to ask?

50F, 5'6" 150lb. On HRT for perimenopause. I drink moderately (~1-4 beers per week) and have never smoked. No other drugs.

I'm moderately active. Not an "athlete" but I do some kind of weights or cardio 3-4 days in any given week and take an hour walk every day (dog)

I have a herniated disc and the MRI notes that there's desiccation in my lumbar discs. I'd love guidance on how to keep it from getting worse.

I was feeling a lot of tightness in my hamstrings during a week where I was doing a lot of sailing (like scrambling around and capsizing sailing, not sitting back with my cocktail getting a tan sailing) and just "doing more stretching" wasn't really resolving it. About two weeks later it felt worse so I reached out to get a PT referral early one morning and by midday I decided I needed to leave work early to figure out why I was in so much pain. I also had lost a lot of feeling in my butt.

The advice nurse told me to come to the ER because of the loss of sensation.

They ran a bunch of labs, a bladder scan and an MRI. They ruled out a cauda equina. I have some basic PT that I'm doing now, an in person appointment later this week and I am seeing a spine specialist next week.

But the MRI says "DISCS: Disc desiccation and mild height loss at L5-S1 and additional mild disc desiccation from L2-L3 to L4-L5."

I'm curious about what I should be doing to prevent further disc desiccation. My work is at a desk, and it's fully remote. I do have an adjustable desk but I generally work seated. Since the ER visit I've been standing more and taking more breaks to walk the dog but I'm wondering whether I should be on a whole schedule?

If I stand all day, I wind up with fatigue, even if I'm on a rubber mat. My fingers get a little swollen and I can feel the veins in along my shin. I welcome any guidance.

Staff working while traveling abroad [NV]

We are fully remote and have a few staff who want to bop around the globe. I appreciate where they're coming from on this but also I do not have the bandwidth to evaluate our legal obligations.

Right now we say that anything more that two weeks is off limits, the majority of your time needs to be at the (US) address you have on file for us. But I'd love to find some resources to educate our staff about why I'm being a stickler about this.

And/or what is reasonable here.

Options for securing gear

We often travel with gear we'd like to secure so it isn't sliding around on things. Are there after market options for tie down cleats in the back of the 4 runner?

Insurer says they're cutting off an employee when they turn 65 [DC]

I have never had to deal with this before. We're fairly small, 40 person organization. We have an employee who is turning 65 this year and not planning to retire as far as I know. We got a letter from our health insurance provider alerting us that the employee is becoming eligible for medicare on their birthday and listing a "Cancel Date" that same month.

It doesn't say "we're cutting them off" but I'm not sure how else to read this. Looking at https://www.medicare.gov it isn't really clear what our options or obligations are here.

Accessing my bookmarks in Firefox iOS

In Firefox on my iPad, I can use the `…` menu to open a view of bookmarks but it closes as soon as I choose one. On my laptop I can see all my bookmarks in a sidebar and I have to close the sidebar to make it go away.

Is there any way to have a persistent view of my bookmarks in Firefox on iOS? Not forever, but for a bit?

What is your favorite Inari / tofu skin?

I really like inari, just stuffed with rice and sesame seeds.

I am blessed to live near a japanese grocery store that has a ton of different kinds of packaged tofu skin to make inari with, and I’d love tips on which ones you like best.

I'm running stock Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS and I find that if I have two windows positioned so they're each taking up half the screen, they get locked together in a very weird way that is incredibly annoying and I'd like to stop that.

If I have three windows open, say: Firefox A, Slack B, Firefox C

So for instance, I have used meta+arrow ⬅️ and meta+arrow ➡️ to position Firefox A along side Slack B. I can see them both on the screen. Great. This is what I desire.

Then I switch to Firefox C, and move it to the right with the meta+arrow combo ➡️. Now I can see Firefox A (Left) and Firefox C (right) on my desktop. As long as Firefox C is the active window, I can see Firefox A and Firefox C, which is great.

However, if I move back to Firefox A as the active window, it always brings Slack B to the front with it. So if I'm using window positioning I wind up getting into these situations where I've paired two windows together and activating one half of the pair will bring the other half to the front.

I don't know if I'm explaining this in the most coherent way possible, but it is driving me nuts. I don't think I did any special customization when I bought this machine in 2023.

I'm very curious to see how others are using the Pareto Planner layouts.

I've been putting birthdays in the yearly view, using the monthly for big picture planning and setting up each week as I go, referring to the monthly view.

I recently set up a "bingo" grid in the back lasts, it feels like less pressure than a wish list to tick off.

I'm still refining how and what I track in the tracker. Each month I iterate on what I had, and I feel good about my tracker, but I'm very curious how others are using the Pareto Planner.

I have a handful of zebra mid liners but I'm finding that they feel sloppy if I don't get the edges just right. And my pens don't bleed but they go on a lot heavier over the mid liners, even if I wait a bit.

I really like them for blocking out my day. And I like the practice of taking a moment to really synthesize my day each morning, but a two step process (color, wait, pen) isn't that realistic every day.

Are there techniques for getting cleaner color?

Excuse the handwriting on my sample. I couldn't find real pages that didn't have more details than I feel okay sharing.
