Finally cleaned and preserved! 800-year-old medieval finds from a forgotten site deep in the mountains

These were found last month in an extremely remote area, about five hours on foot through forests and up into the mountains. Historical sources suggest that a medieval castle once stood somewhere in this area, but there are no visible walls or ruins.

After a lot of work, I’ve finally finished cleaning the iron finds with electrolysis and conserving them. Some of the objects appear to date back roughly 700–800 years.
In the last photo, from left to right:

Top row:

  1. Tanged arrowhead, probably for a bow.
  2. Small spearhead with an open socket.
  3. Juvenile deer fibula (leg bone), dated to roughly 600–700 years ago, and a small 15th-century lead weight.
  4. Horseshoe nails, a forked leather-working/piercing tool, and decorated toiletry tweezers.

Bottom row:

  1. Socketed armour-piercing crossbow bolt head.
  2. Three armour-piercing crossbow bolt heads of different sizes/types.
  3. Socketed hunting arrowhead.
  4. 13th-century prick spur.
The crossbow bolts are probably the most interesting part for me, especially considering how isolated the location is and the absence of any surviving structures above ground.

Over lake Garda in Italy, what are those? (sorry for poor quality)

I was in the bathroom and I heard a loud noise I had to run out like flash with my phone with my pants down to take these pics. Seems like F35 to me but I have no idea. Nothing on flight radar

14th-century spearhead and medieval spur from a castle site abandoned by 1450

Two iron finds from the area of a medieval castle that had already disappeared by around 1450.
The first is a socketed iron spearhead, approximately 11 cm long.
The second is an iron spur, with a U-shaped body and a projecting rear element.
Both pieces are consistent with a medieval context, most likely dating to the 14th century (1300s).

Help me identify this! Found in my backyard in a heavily bombed place in north Italy (read caption)

I think is the back of an AM 64 500lbs American Bomb as we found many of those here in Bolzano north Italy. Not sure tho.

Today’s Find: 13th Century Armor-Piercing Crossbow Bolt Head (Bodkin Type)

Iron, forged construction. Length approximately 8 cm (3.15 in).

Recovered at roughly 30 cm (12 in) depth near the ruins of a medieval hilltop castle in the Alpine region.

The site is extremely remote and difficult to access, requiring several hours of hiking and scrambling through a narrow mountain valley. During the survey, we also identified what appears to be the surviving wall of a tower perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley.

Very little is known about the castle beyond a handful of historical records. The available sources indicate that it served as a watch castle controlling the valley below and was eventually abandoned during the 16th century, likely because of its extremely isolated location and the difficulty of maintaining access to the site.

The head features a diamond-shaped (quadrangular) cross-section and a round tang for insertion into a wooden shaft. Its morphology is consistent with a bodkin-type crossbow bolt head, designed for armor penetration.

Tentatively dated to the 13th century based on form, construction, and find context.

Subito dopo: bloccato

So what?
