Incoming TU Darmstadt student struggling to find accommodation – any leads for October?

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming international Master’s student at TU Darmstadt (M.Sc. Information and Communication Engineering) for Winter Semester 2026/27, and I’ll be arriving from India around 1 October 2026.

I’ve been searching for accommodation for quite some time now but haven’t been able to secure anything yet. I’ve already applied to Studierendenwerk Darmstadt, contacted TU Housing International, comeTOgether, KHG/ESG student residences, Bauverein, WiF, and have also been searching through WG-Gesucht, WhatsApp groups and other housing platforms.

Studierendenwerk informed me that there are currently 3,700+ applicants on the waiting list, so I’m trying every possible alternative.

I’m looking for:

  • A WG/private/student room
  • Preferably around €300–400/month
  • From around 1 October 2026
  • Darmstadt or nearby places with a reasonable commute to TU Darmstadt
  • Anmeldung should be possible

I’m also completely open to sublets, rooms from students going on exchange/internships, or taking over someone’s room.

If anyone here is moving out around September/October, knows someone who is, has a landlord contact, knows a useful WhatsApp/Telegram group, or has literally any housing lead, I would really appreciate it.

Also, if you’re a TU Darmstadt student who went through the same situation, I’d love to know how you eventually found your accommodation and which areas around Darmstadt I should focus on.

Thanks a lot!

Finding accommodation in Darmstadt

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming Master’s student at TU Darmstadt for the Winter Semester and plan to arrive around October 1.

I’ve already applied through Studierendenwerk, contacted several WGs, and joined a few WhatsApp groups, but I haven’t found anything yet.

Is anyone else facing the same issue, or am I missing any useful platforms or methods? If you’re already studying at TU Darmstadt and know any contacts, available rooms, or reliable ways to find accommodation, please comment or DM me.

Thanks!

TU Darmstadt iCE vs RUB Communication Systems?

Hey everyone, I got admits for TU Darmstadt – M.Sc. Information and Communication Engineering (iCE) and RUB Bochum – M.Sc. ETIT (Communication Systems).

I’m from an ECE background and interested in communications/DSP, AI/ML, embedded systems and possibly semiconductors.

Which would you choose considering course quality, Werkstudent/HiWi opportunities, internships/jobs, cost of living and career prospects in Germany?

Would love to hear from current students/alumni.

TU Darmstadt vs OTH Regensburg — what would you pick?

Hey guys,

I’m an international student from India and I’ve got admits from:

  • TU Darmstadt – Information and Communication Engineering
  • OTH Regensburg – Electrical and Microsystems Engineering

I’m really confused between the two.

I’m mainly interested in electronics, embedded systems and semiconductors. TU Darmstadt seems to have the better reputation overall, but OTH Regensburg feels more closely related to what I want to do, and Regensburg also seems to have a good semiconductor industry around it.

For someone who wants to get a Werkstudent job, gain industry experience and eventually work in Germany, which one would you choose?

Would really appreciate any honest opinions.

Confused between TU Darmstadt, OVGU Magdeburg and OTH Regensburg

Hey everyone,

I’m an international student from India and I’ve got admits from:

  • TU Darmstadt – Information and Communication Engineering
  • OVGU Magdeburg – Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
  • OTH Regensburg – Electrical and Microsystems Engineering

I’m really confused about which one to choose.

Should I mainly go based on the course I’m most interested in, or also give a lot of importance to university reputation, city life, cost of living, part-time jobs, Werkstudent opportunities, internships and future job prospects?

I’m mainly interested in electronics, embedded systems and semiconductors.

Which one would you choose and why? Would really appreciate any advice from students or people working in Germany.

Student life in Regensburg — jobs, accommodation and tips?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to move to Regensburg for my master’s and wanted to know more about student life there.

How is Regensburg for international students? Are part-time jobs or Werkstudent roles easy to find, especially for English-speaking students?

Any general tips about the city, university life, jobs, or things to prepare before coming would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Is it too late to apply for FAU ICT MSc now?

Hi everyone, I am an international applicant from India for Winter 2026.

I already have an admit from OTH Regensburg – Master Electrical and Microsystems Engineering, but I am considering applying to FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg – M.Sc. ICT before the 15 July deadline.

My main concern is the timeline. If I apply now, is it realistic to get the result in time for visa, blocked account, accommodation, and enrolment?

Has anyone applied to FAU ICT or FAU Engineering Master’s close to the deadline? How long did the result take?

FAU would be an upgrade option for me, but I do not want to delay my visa process unnecessarily.

Thanks
