Keeping cats separate NOT due to aggression

My cat just got home from a successful surgery to remove an ear polyp and a tooth and her cat buddy at home is very interested in checking her out. Right now he seems okay just hanging on the bed near her but I’m worried he’s going to try to help her and end up hurting her accidentally. I don’t know if they need to be apart because they’re not fighting and they seem to feel better together.

Also we’re working on replacing the cone with a slightly nicer sleeve thing that will be more comfortable. She got the one the surgery center sent us home with mostly off before we even got inside. We just haven’t gotten a chance to go out and get a better one yet

Coolerzone subscription?

I happen to possess all the necessary things to subscribe to coolerzone, but I was wondering if I do that, where does that subscription fee go? I have some vague memory of apple taking a large fee off the top for in-app purchases made on iPhone. I don’t really care that much about specifically who at czm gets what or whatever because they seem to be happy with their union but if it means apple just siphoning a bunch off the top I might just suffer through the ads and use those skip buttons whenever possible. Am I missing something? Is this a good use of my limited funds?

ETA: I posted here because I was listening to Molly talk about how they won’t pay her to hole up and research for a long time at once and was wondering if there’s a better way to support stuff like that. Weird little guys I think is my favorite czm show but like all of them seem pretty good. If I heard it and didn’t like it it was always a personal interest or preference thing.

Do histo labs ever hire straight into PRN roles?

I’m looking to pick up a PRN/per diem second histotech job. I already have a full time job but I was looking to add a weekend day or something to add some extra income and see more of what other labs do. I hold an HTL and I have been working full time as a histotech for about a year and a half. Before that I was a lab assistant in the same lab.

Do labs ever hire people directly into those types of roles or is the investment in training too much? I really don’t want to leave where I’m at full time as the management and culture are such a good fit for me.

Title of book rec from Dr. al Kurd

Hello! I was just listening to the first of the most recent two episodes with Dr. al Kurd and near the end (Apple Podcasts says there are about twelve minutes remaining of the episode) she recommends a book that I am interested in reading to learn more. It was in reference the sale of land to European zionists by Arab Muslims.

All that is to say, I could not quite understand what she said was the title or author because she speaks with a fluency that is beyond my dumb only speaking English brain. Could someone tell me what it is and how to spell it? That would be much appreciated.

Routine gentle surface decal

Hello! I was wondering what different labs use for surface decal when molecular studies are not anticipated. We use a chelating agent if we anticipate molecular but for routine sections of bone we use a formic acid formaldehyde mixture. My understanding is that we buy the mix because we use it for bone marrow cores to hopefully fix and gently decal simultaneously. I don’t think the formaldehyde has any purpose for surface decal though and I don’t see why we’re keeping 20 specimen cups full of it around the microtomy floor. Am I being unreasonable? Wouldn’t a weak acid like the formic acid that’s already in the decal solution we’re using work? When they use it for fixation it lives under the fume hood. Would a weak acid decalcifier on its own be prohibitively expensive?

Also, I am aware that a strong acid decal could be used. From what I can gather that’s what they did in the past but it was affecting staining quality.

Thanks!
