Not a fan of the live Guitar

Just saw them last night in Minnesota and was kind of disappointed. I think the audio mix wasn’t to good since the vocals and instruments were the exact sam volume which made it hard to hear anything.

Luke’s guitar solos at the end of every song were not the best imo. He can for sure play but a couple times it felt like Marty Mcfly in Back to the Future. I saw them last year in Chicago and it was more tame.

Still enjoyed it for the most part, he played some deep cuts. Also the ai visuals sucked ass.

Hacienda is top tier

Whole album is flames but this song is such a vibe. Having your crib burn down and still producing top notch music is aura. Rammy the goat

What 3 songs best show off $b’s artistic range

My Picks

Hot Razor
Matte Black
And to Those I Love Thanks for Sticking Around

Hot Razor:
The entire Yin Yang tapes project was a huge deviation from their style at the time. Also pays homage to their inspiration and old school rap. They use vocal effects perfectly and have a flow to match all while having unique beats. I think Hot Razor is the peak of all of these factors.

Matte Black:
Yes it’s over played. Yes it went main stream. This is exactly why it’s on my list. This is one of the few songs from The Boys that I’ll bump at a function with people who aren’t into $b. It’s danceable the lyrics aren’t overly proactive or depressing, and the beat is fun.

And to Those I Love Thanks for Sticking Around:
This is the epitome of what they do best. Self loathing and despair perfectly illustrated through music. The contrast between their voices is perfect. Ruby’s talent is on full display. What else is there to add for this one?

Death Rose

Should have done the colors first then the black. Both of the colors were more opaque than I expected.

Are the Audiobooks different from the originals?

Listening to the first book in the og trilogy and the preface in audible says “The Foundation: Apple TV tie in edition”.

My question is does the version on Audible differ from the original?

I forced myself to like Gorillaz and it worked

TLDR: Putting in honest effort to consume new media in an unbiased way will enhance your life. It will refine your ability to explain why you like or dislike certain media. You also might find some diamonds in the rough.

Preface:
I wanted to get into Gorillaz because comments under a band I like say they are a lot a like (Sad Night Dynamite, check out their song “Icy Violence)

In order focus my thoughts I will speak mostly about Plastic Beach as I just relistened to it most recently. I feel these comments do apply to most of their work.I have listened to their complete discography once.

Thoughts:
They are a feature heavy band, this is to their detriment and advantage. They can have amazing tracks like “Stylo” or “Empire Ants”. Then also have ones that are pretty lame i.e “White Flag”, “Some Kind of Nature” (SKoN would be even worse without Damon). I can’t help but think “Sweepstakes” would benefit from a 2D verse. I think Damon’s voice is pretty good and any track where he features as the main vocalist is immediately ahead of others. Some of their collabs make me wonder why they agreed to it. They have a knack for making sounds and beats that you wouldn’t think work but do.

Now here’s why it took some brute force to get into Gorillaz. The whole character and animated world they constructed feels a bit forced and unnecessary. That being said it has grown on me and I don’t have to consume that to enjoy their music. Secondly their early work (Gorillaz & Demon Days) is not for me. On my first attempt to like them it just didn’t click. In my opinion they have a lot of misses that do not resonate on first listen. Now coming back to their first album I like it a lot more than I did on my first try. I think once you get into a band you acclimate to their style which may give a new appreciation for music once dislikes. Sort of like stretching you get more flexible the more you do it.

I’m glad I stuck with it as now I like them a lot. Here are my current top 5 (not in a specific order)

El Mañana
Rhinestone Eyes
Saturn Barz
Sorcerers
Baby Queen

Any M*A*S*H heads here?

I feel like this community would be knowers. It’s probably the best show ever made. Just want some heads to talk to. It’s one of the rare shows that can do funny and heavy perfectly. It’s a true 10/10 we gotta get NL on it.

Singing the wrong verse in a song?

Smooth off? Relatively harmless but depending on the intensity you lead in with could be disastrous.

Yall Fw Rocci?

His production and vocals are next level and bring a refreshing contrast to the people he works with. (TPM1 & 2, also his work with Pouya and Lu)

His album Chameleon is pretty damn good (check out “Cold” w/killswxtch)

He def need to colab more and I would love to see another solo album. (His singles also bang)
