Laying it out there to see if this is right for me.

Little background military Veteran who did a little LE while I was in. Now Im a FF/EMT in a city. I also just started a good paying side job 2x a week, making real good money. My fire job is 8 shifts a month, then I do the side job 8hrs a day for 2 days a week (I can do this as much or as little as I want). I have a COL from DEA (GS7) and FBI(GS10), I wanted to get into th 1811 world when I heard about it in the military and its always been this pipe dream of mine. But Im 36 now, I can retire from my FF job in 15 years if i wanted. Im burnt out from Fire and want something a little more stimulating, a field that is exciting and a little action here and there. I don't know if Im just looking at this through rose colored glasses, is the FBI and DEA worth getting into? I could get into the reasons on wanting to leave my current job, but health and safety are a huge factor, working atleast one weekend day every week. Between my Fire and side job im making like 170k, roughly depending on hours worked at the side job.

Send it, stay put? Set me straight fellas.

Interior window well drain

Since I bought this property I’ve gone through a slew of water issues with this window well. When I moved in I did a temporary fix for this window well filling up like a fish bowl and draining out of the window into the basement. I made this interior gutter that runs along the wall and into the slop sink. I want to drill into the window well a make a drain, like the second picture. But instead of going into the foundation with the piping, can I leave the existing pvc that fixed to the wall and call it good? Any glaring issues with that?

Also I live in the city, so the water has no where to go. I understand getting it away from the house is the first solution, but that’s a whole other issue where I’m at.

Visiting old unit at JBCC

Going on a trip this summer to Cape Cod and want to see about taking my kids to my old unit on JBCC. Can I use a VHIC card to get on base then drive over to my old unit? I’ll obviously schedule something beforehand, if possible. But I’m curious if a VHIC can get me on the base easily?

Office work at FBI

So while I understand this role has plenty of time behind a desk, I get that. I’m just looking to gauge how much of your day is spent behind a desk working at the FBI? How often are you out in the field? Is there specific roles as an 1811 that are more operational than others? Those of you that were police prior, are you happy with the change from the field to more of an office setting? I had a desk job before joining the military that I did not enjoy due to just staring at a computer all day, trying to make sure I’m not putting myself back into that environment. Granted my priorities and abilities have changed from my early twenties to where I am now.

Phase 2 interview results?

Just took the phase 2 interview and I’m curious when I should expect to hear back? I’ve read a range of answers but curious if anyone who’s done it recently has any current information.

Looking for another grill to complement my KJ.

So currently I have a Kamado Joe that I use for all my cooking needs. I had a blackstone that i eventually stopped using so I sold that a few weeks ago. Im looking for a grill that would be a good complement to my KJ, any suggestions? I’d love an offset but I don’t have the space for one. A pellet grill was a thought due to the simplicity. Any suggestions?

ATF PTT and interview same day.

Got an email about taking my PT test and that the interview will be immediately after, it also says business attire is not required for the interview. How do I approach this? I can’t imagine I’ll have a space to change into a suit even if I wanted to? Just bring a decent shirt to change into? I’m sure my hair will be all messed up too. Just roll with it since it explicitly says business attire is not required?

Score for DEA PT Test?

Did my DEA PT test yesterday and I’m curious how to tell if I passed or not? The proctor didn’t have any standards or numbers to shoot for and I can’t find anything online that seems to be updated? I’m seeing something from 2023, but that’s it.

Anyone leave the job because of the department?

I’ve been considering leaving the job for a little while now. While I like the job and all the it involves, I really dislike the department I work for now. The way it operates, lack of safety or care for its members and the nepotism holding me back has finally gotten to me. I’ve been here for 4.5 years and the initial glamour has worn off and I’m seeing it for what it is. Before anyone says to apply to other departments, that’s not easy where I’m at. Everywhere around me requires you to be a medic, my department is a big city that only requires you to be an EMT. Going to medic school just isn’t in the cards for me. Anyone have similar experiences?

Didn't test positive after Gluten Challenge.

SO for the past 2 years i've been Gluten free and it really cut down on the inflamation in my body, I had incredible back pain that was really dialed back once I went gluten free. But for the past 3-4 months Ive had really bad stomach issues, so I got a referral to a gastro who suggested I get an endoscopy and colonoscopy and while were at it test for celiac. I did the 2-3 weeks of eating it and honestly was surprised. I had really bad stomach pain the first few days eating it but then after about a week it was fine, no issues at all. I get the exam done and the doctor says there is no issues, and I don't have celiac. But not that its been a few days after the exam and I have been testing eating more gluten I have been having that horrible back pain come back again. How do I move forward here with gluten?

Plastic or metal shavings in oil?

22 XLT with 39k miles. Just did an oil change and this time I got a new funnel with a screen at the bottom. These were collected at the bottom of the screen. Almost looks like plastic? Magnet didn’t pick them up.

Removing DAV VSO now that I’m PT?

Been 100% for a little while now and after reading something on here it got me wondering if it’s worth removing them as a representative now? They never really helped me with filling claims, I used a different services to file all the claims that got me to 100%. So Is it worth it going through with removing them or should I just expect them to never filling anything without my consent?

In a Firefighter and we had a patient on Tuesday who had bed bugs, the hospital called us after the fact. Only touched the patient with my gloved hand and for a brief moment, wasn’t in the apartment for more than 1-2 minutes and didn’t sit on anything. They don’t itch, feels like a cut more than anything too.

So I’m looking for my next toy. I’ve had a Traeger( older model before they got fancy), currently have a Komado Joe, have a blackstone that I’m planning to sell to make space for a new toy. I enjoy smoking meat on the komado, considered an offset but those get expensive for a decent set up, don’t a fan of propane grills, I don’t mind the work of lighting up the komado. What’s new and exciting I should look at? I saw that new Santa Maria style blackstone that looked fun, but not sure if it would be a redundant cook style to my KJ… suggestions??
