Do you ever tell families it’s more or less certain their relative is in heaven after last rites?

For example you yourself were the one to give last confession and apostolic pardon. I ask because I wonder how a priest goes about knowing they have the rights to forgive sins and pardon temporal punishments, and care for families afterwords.

Help understanding Marriage

Good afternoon, Latin Catholic here. I’ve recently been trying to understand our purpose in heaven/new earth and the nature of our relationships. I’m not entirely satisfied with the Latin explanation of “we will love everyone fully and marriage only has purpose on earth”. And I’m not entirely sure what’s “allowed” to be believed on marriage. I’m trying to better form an understanding on different rites theological beliefs. In part because my father will be starting OCIA this fall and is getting up there in age, and I don’t know if the Latin understanding will be very pastorally comforting to him. Appreciate any help offered

[U.S.A specific] How do we Catholics effectively split off from mainline American misconceptions about Christianity?

What I mean is, how do we effectively separate us from the dispensationalists, puritans, non denominationals etc. whom have effectively made the cultural idea of Christian in america crazy people who want money?

Should the Church stamp down on laity “theologians”?

Without naming names, in the age of social media and public personas, there is a growing group of laity who capitalize on the ability to share information across the world in mere moments. Some of these laity, it seems, make their entire income off of “theological debates” or publishing questionable quality works for profit. Many of them have flawed premises or heterodox ideas that are only corrected in comment sections to little effect. Others take their flawed ideas into academia and hold positions in universities or other institutes where they are not able to be easily challenged, and abuse their position to attempt to influence the Church.

What is the proper response for the Church when the laity go mad?

This isn’t an onimusha game

Just got done with the demo. This is a capcom rendition of Ryse: Son of Rome more than anything. Bland sets, constant executions that are cinematic in nature instead of functional, bad voice action and has anyone else noted, there’s literally no music the entire time? The gauntlet is some dumb modern “talk back lady”. The combat is overly simplistic while trying to imitate other games with constant parrying and stamina bars (completely unnecessary), musashi gets poked once he goes into a seconds long recovery window…. This is just bad. Even the main menu doesn’t have music

[Politics Monday] How can Catholics in the U.S protect their faith from misuse by politicians?

It should be no surprise that with the new Catholic majority minority among American Christians that politicians are testing the waters on “being publicly Catholic” to try and entice voters. Recent appeals by vice president JD Vance have seemed to have fallen flat (warning the Pope about speaking on theology wasn’t a good move) but there’s bound to be others. Is there a line between valid criticism of a politicians stance on “key issues” like abortion gay marriages or immigration, and their public persona as a “Catholic politician”?

Question on the dignity of prisoners in America

So every American knows one way or another prisons form ethnic gangs, allow violent crime at some level, and there is a rape culture among the worst of the prisoners. With all this said, are the wardens, guards and administrators of the prison system guilty of scandal when this culture shows itself in prisons? And how does this affect the dignity of prisoners?

Are priests forced to become bishops?

I have read/heard that many priests don’t want to become bishops as it takes away from what they love about their vocation and makes their role, more or less, administrative in nature. Would you try to turn down becoming a bishop? Or do you have to accept it because your vows?

I hope the dlc isn’t just more wide open areas for unlimited space encounters

Dark arisen was great because it was winding corridors of the deadliest threats the game had to throw at you. Turn a corner early and a bull man smashed your head. Miss a jump and you land next to a bunch of hellhounds. Oh and here’s death following you around after killing all your pawns without a rift stone in sight. That was great gameplay. If the new dlc is just “fight a yeti in this open spaces forest area” it’s going to be undistinguished from the base game

When did “low church” denominations begin to develop?

When talking to friends overseas (primarily Europe) they don’t entirely understand how in the U.S.A there’s a plethora of independent pop up churches with no true connections to apostolic tradition, or medieval Protestants such as Calvin, nor do they understand how America has people “speaking in tongues” wrestling venomous serpents or refusing to conduct infant baptism. It got me wondering as a cradle Catholic with not much exposure to the history of “low churches” how this all came about.

So there’s no news on morphing still right?

New game looks kinda cutscene heavy (like every new game nowadays) so I’m guessing there’s no height/weight morphing

Got a question for Dads with Sons

As your sons get older (this is assuming they have younger siblings) do you begin to give them responsibilities for building up the faith in their younger siblings? And if so at what age? I don’t have kids but maybe someday I will and as Father’s Day is a round the corner this question popped in my head.

Was St. Peter…ripped?

Not at all trying to be disrespectful but a lot of traditional art depicts him as kinda a well built old man when being crucified. And the actor who depicts him in The Chosen is almost comically muscled (sleeveless tunic etc.) I understand as a fisherman he was used to demanding labor, and maybe had access to good amounts of protein. Midnight thoughts brought this post to mind, again not at all intending to be disrespectful

How do you feel about laity using social media to speak on topics involving theology and the Church?

For example there’s a podcast called “Pints with Aquinas” that appears to be popular, or “The Council of Trent” where the hosts are laity but claim to be apologetics and theologians. I’m not judging them on their character but it seems odd, even off that people whom haven’t gone through seminary have massive followings and speak on topics such as “mortal vs venial sin” or “how universalism ruined the church”, going beyond this sometimes these channels take shots at people like Bishop Robert Barron and his sermons. I myself feel a little turned off by the idea of laypeople speaking against the ordained clergy, but am very interested in how a priest might see it. I’ve heard that priests and bishops take on a responsibility of their dioceses salvation, but are these people putting themselves at any risk for potentially misguiding their audiences, or misspeaking on theology? Final side question, what is the official role for the laity in terms of obedience to their priests and bishops instructions?

Did Hord know Ragnos?

I’m having trouble figuring out if there’s any overlap between the two, also what exactly was Tulak Hord’s position? He conquered worlds and did typical Sith Lord stuff but it doesn’t seem like he was ever “in charge” of the Sith like lords who proceeded him.
