I'm going to see Stabbing Westward next month, and I'm so excited!
30th anniversary of Wither, Blister, Burn & Peel. I'll admit, I stopped listening to them for a long time and just recently got back into a lot of the mid 90s music that I used to love. I've been listening to these guys so much in anticipation of seeing them! Anyone else a fan?
Anyone else still have made in USA Gearwrench tools?
I have these two torque wrenches. I don't use them very often, so they are still pretty much like new. I have had them 15+ years, as far as I can remember. I had some other USA made Gearwrench stuff in the past when they were phasing out KD Tools.
I just finished Hollow Knight @ 89% (I know there is more to do, but...)
I'm in my mid 40s. I've never been much of a gamer. I had a Nintendo and Sega as a kid, but gaming was never a high priority.
I put together gaming computers for my kids a few years ago, I had fun during the process, and after seeing all the games on the Steam store, I put one together for myself too.
I played the games I had heard of, Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein, GTA, and Resident Evil games were the first ones I went for. I played a few Metroidvania games, then I found Hollow Knight. I LOVED it at first, but it was way too difficult for me. I couldn't get past the first Hornet fight. After like 30 tries, I abandoned it, but it was always a game that I wanted to revisit.
I played the Ori and Prince of Persia games. I tried to get better at timing by playing games with parrying. I got to the point where I felt that I could revisit Hollow Knight. It was much easier this time around for me. I made it through the first Hornet battle in just a couple of tries.
I know it's pretty cheesy, but I'm proud of myself for sticking with it, and while I still feel like I'm terrible at games, I do feel I'm much less terrible than I used to be! I can't wait to start Silksong soon!
Any concerts Friday the 23rd worth checking out?
I'm going to see Marilyn Manson in Austin on the 21st and 22nd, then heading up to Fort Worth on the 23rd. I am staying at one of the hotels near the Speedway where SNW will be held. Anyone know of anything worth checking out on Friday the 23rd?
So pumped right now, got tickets to two nights!
I saw the Antichrist Superstar tour in 1997, which is still one of my favorite concerts I've been to. I saw that they were going to be in my city for this tour, but I missed out on getting tickets during both presales. This morning, when tickets went on sale, there were no tickets available for single days. I was able to buy a 2 day ticket for $157 (total after fees/taxes). The cheapest I could get a one day resale ticket for is $114 right now. I'll be hitting both shows instead of paying a scalper nearly the same price for one show. Fuck yeah!
And FUCK scalpers!
I miss Unsolved Mysteries and the fear of serial killers
The current surveillance/police state that we have, I feel like unsolved crime and mysteries are fewer and fewer. I also feel like we lived in fear of a lot of shit that is not feared today (ghosts, dudes with their hands registered as lethal weapons, alien abductions, getting AIDS from a toilet seat, etc). I miss being afraid of dumb shit.
Sneaker Pimps!
2xLP, 180 gram, 45rpm, sounds great. One of my favorite albums of the mid 90s.
Happy to have picked this one up recently.
I used to have this on cd back in the 90s. I had pretty much forgotten about the band until I heard them on Sirius recently. Luckily, I found that it was available on vinyl. This is a great album!
RX 6800 XT w/ a 5600x, hold for a while?
I built both of my kids a gaming pc a few years ago. One is a 5600x w/ a RX 6800 XT. I upgraded my other kid from a RTX4060 to a RTX5060 Ti for his birthday. Both are into gaming, but I don't think the games they play are really that demanding, but I don't really know.
Anyway, I think a 5600x and RX 6800 XT are still good for a few years, but maybe I should upgrade his gpu and sell the old one? Any suggestions? 650 watt psu, not interested in a ddr5 system upgrade. He also likes RGB, which the 6800 XT has.
I had been wanting a Porcupine, got the cheesy one
Really like the button liner lock (and everything else).
I went down memory lane with Gravity Kills the other night...
A few of my friends were into Gravity Kills back in the late 90s, early 2000s. Thankfully, Sirius played a Gravity Kills song and reminding me they existed. I jammed their first album the other night, picturing me and my friends cruising around in our cool 90's cars, filling up the tank and getting a pack of smokes for under $20, smoking skunk weed with an occasional seed pop, and eating extra value meals that we supersized and they were still under $5.
After that, I played the Sneaker Pimps. Fun night.
I've never really paid attention to prices, but I saw bags of ice at the gas station were $3.49 today...
Did they go from $.99 my whole life to $3.49 just recently, or have I just not been paying attention and recent inflation has me more alert?
Staying at the hotels by the speedway Friday night?
I'm a mid 40s dude, going solo from Austin, staying at one of the hotels across the interstate from the speedway. If anyone is staying in that area and would want to try to find a show on Friday night, I'll pay for the Uber if there is anything worth catching a ride to. If there is nothing worth seeing Friday, I'd still like to find someone to have a few beers with.
What is a purchase your parents would not make that literally ruined your life?
Was there anything that you remember being the one item between you and absolute nirvana as a kid, but your parents would not buy it for you? I always wanted a power glove, but the funds were never there. Watching The Wizard as a kid without a power glove was just pure torture. I also wanted a chrome Mongoose, but never got that either.
Are you doing any public nostalgia events this year?
I'm going to go a nostalgia music festival in October in Fort Worth, TX. Any of you doing anything for nostalgia this year?
Restaurant was playing P.M. Dawn when I was having lunch on Wednesday...
I've been occasionally listening to them for the last few days. Just looked them up and saw the founder passed away 10 years ago, but their cousin is still performing under the P.M. Dawn name (Gallagher 3?). I had pretty much forgotten about them, but I've enjoyed hearing their music again.
I remembered hearing their name after Pearl Jam made it big, but I don't really recall hearing their music in the 90s/00s. Sirius plays a few of their songs infrequently on the Lithium channel. I took a deeper dive into them earlier this year, and they have became one of my favorite bands to listen to. Any other Mother Love Bone fans here?
