Stop Defending Last of Us HBO

Matthew McConaughey just revealed why he passed the project up, and mind you, he was on True Detective, one of the greatest TV shows that was one season, concise, focused, and stuck the landing.

Last of Us fumbled. Hard. Biggest problem was the casting/acting (every casting. Every. One. They were flat and uninteresting) and the second problem of the same caliber was the dog-shit writing. Two perfect video games they could have recreated with the same intensity and care only to slip into the same superficial money grab that video game adaptations always turn into.

The show has got no heart or soul; it feels vacant and flat. And all of my friends & family who tuned in were like… “Uhm, you like this? It’s just a worst version of…” etc

Mary Jane is trash in Insomniac Spider-Man

She was good for what it was worth in the first one, even though they made her Louis Lane, but at least she was pretty and a genuinely good romantic partner to Peter.

But in Spider-Man 2 PS5, she has gray hair, yellow teeth, narrow hips, and almost nothing resembling the hot ass gorgeous woman who had a successful modeling career in the comics.

Bring back the Mary Jane character! The REAL one! Peter deserves that. It’s like the ONE redeeming quality about being Spider-Man is his gorgeous wife that he has a lovely relationship with.

90’s Animated Spider-Man

BIGGEST Flaw: the TikTok pacing in the 90’s. This show FLIES through plot like Vin Diesel off 4 lines of colombian coke.

BIGGEST positive: I love the maturity. It makes the stakes feel more real. Peter is built like a D1 college athlete and had more anger and emotional range than all 3 live action actors put together which is sad considering it’s a cartoon.

Discussion: Super Hero Movies Could be Farrrr Better

We are often let down and dissatisfied with corny action, dumb jokes, poor execution, and pitiful “action” scenes. This is a thread where we can collectively compile advice to writers, producers, and directors that we desire BETTER.

Write down your complaints, thoughts, and suggestions below!

My problem with Super Hero Movies: The action scenes are generally the length of a YouTube short. These are ENHANCED individuals with increased strength, endurance, skills, and typically heroic personalities that don’t give up. EXTENNDDD the action! Make it ridiculous and over the top! Don’t make the action modest or lame or have 1-2 action scenes in a genre that is primarily about PUNCHING. Movies need to do BETTER in terms of elongated consistent action especially in big budget superhero movies where that should be the main focus.

Stop giving the limelight to side characters. The titular character MUST be respected and MUST have ticket-buying moments. The main character should solve problems in neat and creative ways to exploit their abilities that others don’t share. I’m sick of having the best scenes, dialogues, and moments given to stupid side characters nobody cares about! Make the titular character COOL, likeable, and ffs give the main character plot heavy moments to SHINE, is that so hard and not obvious?

Tell me about your complaints and improvements below!

Superman 2025 was boring

I’d have to rewatch it but I found it underwhelming the first time. My coworker took her 7 year old son and she typically enjoys any genre but fell asleep on this one. It wasn’t bad, per se, but why did they insist on making Superman lame?

More than anything is I didn’t FEEL the earth shattering badass HERO moment that Superman is supposed to embody. Like, oh snap, an unbeatable God upon us like Henry Cavill’s Superman Aura.

I liked the Clark family farm stuff because I liked the Smallville TV show. I was hoping for a big payoff after his talk with his parents where Superman demonstrates he’s in a league above all the other characters but it never arrived. Instead they opted to give those moments to characters whose names I completely forgot. Way to go movie. You have a character who can punch his way through problems, make the unrealistic real, and you give the physically awe inspiring wipeout action scenes to… who is that guy? I couldn’t tell you.

Idk if I like Superman being “relatable”. Clark’s \*problems\* may be relatable, a job, girlfriend, and family, but he’s supposed to be a badass example of a positive pure-hearted hero that we LOOK UP to; not a bumbling idiot who shares the same thought process (doubts, insecurities, and limp dickedness) as us lower primates.

Do I have a squatter or Duende / Elf / Gnome?

A few things in the past have unexpectedly moved or changed when no one was home except for our two cats.

LOGIC and CONTEXT:

Stack of blue plates (~30+ opened) are unaccounted for. Yes, my girlfriend insists she didn’t take them but naturally could have forgotten. It makes sense to me that she would have taken disposable plates to a barbecue or to bring leftovers. Or we reheated the leftovers using those plates. Other instances you should be aware of, and where the squatter allegations originated which prompted me to check the crawl space, is when two bags of soda crackers, which neither of us often eat unless we’re sick, were found in the pantry tied together using a single clamp; which she got mad at ME about for putting them away like that. We have several clamps that we use to close chips or whatever. What struck us as odd is why would we open two bags of soda crackers instead of finishing one first, which we both find wasteful, and also why were they close/clamp in a way neither of us typically would? Also, why were they dead center in the middle like someone just put them back? I’m thinking perhaps one was opened and taken to work as I think that’s something my girlfriend would do. We were eating canned chili from costco for a while as it was delicious and high in protein and those crackers maybe would have been taken to be accompany that dish? Anyway, again, we asked the family downstairs to which they responded no we haven’t needed those or gone upstairs to your apartment which we believe because they truthfully never come up besides to hangout with us and feed the cats if we’re not home. It’s worth noting they have significantly more resources and snacks than we do on a regular basis so their incentive would be low.

The last thing and first incident that prompted all of this squatter talk is when I went to the gym one day when the house was completely alone except for pets. I put on my workout shoes from the designated shoe rack leaving an empty space on the shoe rack of course, and when I returned from the gym, the space was filled with a pair of sandals that I don’t wear because I don’t find them flattering but on rare occasion wear them to do chores in. Anyways I hadn’t seem in a while and was shocked that they were there when I returned home from the gym. While I was gone, the teenage high-school-aged daughter, my gf sister, arrived home. I figured that she must have just borrowed my sandals for comfort one day that she hung out with us and came up here to return them thus filling the spot. I legitimately believed this to be the case. She said no and I believe her. It was kind of a stretch, anyway. More likely, i must have been cleaning or doing chores or something, found them and placed them on the shelf myself before I left

It’s very likely that it was misplacement amnesia. Personally, we’ve had 3 family parties in the past week at different people’s houses where we brought burgers and buns to one. It’s likely we brought the plates as that’s a perfect use case for them and forgot. I partially believe we just somehow lost track of how quickly we used them as there are some in the trash, the only hesitancy I have with that is that there truly was a healthy stack of those disposable blue plates just a few days ago. I really hope my girlfriend just took them to her friend’s house (even though it was a dog’s birthday party. No use case for disposable plates). The plates are in a high cabinet above the counters making it difficult for a cat to access, that said, although our cats are not allowed on the counter and they hardly let me catch them when they do, i know they have hopped on to explore when we’re not around. Still, the plates would be pretty high up even if they did somehow get it open.
Speaking of which, if we had a squatter wouldn’t the cats be more aware of it and let us know? We have a pretty clean place which is why it’s easy to keep track of and 2 young healthy, playful, cats. They’re highly alert and perceptive to all external noises, animals, and lights around the neighborhood and love our windows. Being that I’m unemployed and home all day, a squatter would have such limited ability to enter and exit the home. My girlfriend wakes up at 5 am and I very often go to sleep at 3am - 4:30am and sometimes stay up until my girlfriend leaves. The squatter would starve if they’re in the roof or would have been found out by now. Thus, the duende theory

MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE:

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I both noticed a stack of blue disposable plates that decided to disappear without either of us having moving them. Those plates are used for cooking and mixing ingredients and now they’re gone. I’m hoping one of us moved them and forgot, but unfortunately I can’t think of another explanation besides a squatter which seems very unlikely since I’m unemployed and home most days. Then again, my girlfriend went to a party at her friend’s house and I went to my family and friends’ on the day (2 days ago) which is the day we believe they went missing. My girlfriend’s family lives beneath us and we asked them about it even though we know they haven’t been up and they confirmed they are not sure what may be going on. Our apartment is not too big and very easy to keep track of. We live on the top floor and have “crawl space” within the slim roof areas. However I have checked these areas the last time things unexplainably moved around and found no evidence of a squatter. Also, we don’t really hear noises and if and when we do it’s usually raccoons at the windows at night.

Weird similarities between uncharted 1 and cod zombies?

im replaying the uncharted series right now and im currently 87% done the first game but I just noticed a crazy similarity between the ending cutscene of chapter 17 and cod zombies. your fighting the monsters and then run into a room to save yourself and Elena and discover some sort of nazi plans connecting this room to the u boat. then Elena and nate go to an elevator to try to get out of the room but it isn't powered so your tasked with turning the power on. if you've ever played cod zombies you know that "nazi zombies" was the theme of the first game and turning the power on is a classic trope I all the games. connecting this with the fact that nate is voiced by Nolan north who also plays richtofen in cod zombies and the first game to have cod zombies came out 1 year after uncharted it's crazy how many thi is match, is this on purpose or just a coincidence?
