My thoughts

I'm a part-time OFA now entering my third year. I'll also turn 64 in July. I got my job in the old fashioned way. Although I applied online, I knew somebody who knew somebody that was in position to shepard that application along. I applied for the open Lot Associate position, but less than 4 days later was offered a position in Department 094.

Order Fullfillment Associate.

I can honestly say that if I didn't work as an OFA, I'd just quit. OFA's are like special forces. We do it all.

I am old enough to have seen the movie "Cocktail" starring Tom Cruise. The critical line in that film is when Brian Brown says "A bartender is the aristocrat of the working class."

OFA's are the aristocrats of HD.

What is literally killing film and televison? The lack of veteran character actors (VCA) and the failure to replace them.

My personal favorite category in film and television is the VCA. You know who they are, you've seen them in tons of stuff, but since you can't immediately name them when you see them you say "hey, it's that guy" or "hey, it's that gal." You don't know their name, but you've seen them in so many roles in different projects you do know, you go to IMDB. Select the previous project you saw them in and then look at the additional cast list until you find them. Then you look at their screen credits and check to see if you are correct. If you are like me, I bet you're more often correct than you are wrong.

My current favorite VCA is Stephen Tobolowsky. Before you say "Stephen who," look him up. If the name doesn't already register, once you see how many roles he's had over the past 50 years you'll understand why no matter what your age you say "hey, it's that guy!"
