Restored this Falcon I bought 3.5 years ago from reddit. Now for sale on Bat.

I bought this 1962 Ford falcon from u/TheKingdomeKid and his grandfather just over three years ago from this original post https://www.reddit.com/r/FORDFALCONS/comments/10i5ysw/anyone_selling_6063_falcon_w_v8_swap_in_us_or/

I spent a ton of time getting it running, adding ridetch coil overs, wilwood brakes, a tremec 5 speed and the livery. It has been an absolute blast. I'm now selling it on bring a trailer here https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-ford-falcon-36/

Just thought I would share the story of having a car pass through reddit. Turned out the seller and I had a lot in common, both working in the same industry and about the same age.

His grandfather bought it around 1991 and did the engine swap and the interior fast forward to the reddit post then my dad and I got it and added more to it.

Im going to miss this thing and the falcon community has been awesome while I ve been working on it. Hoping it goes to someone that loves it as much as myself and the previous owner did.

Let me know what you all think or some love on bat would be awesome too.

Thank you!

BaT and Hagerty protecting Sellers like Collectible Classics!!! Even with proof they won't protect the buyer.

I have posted in many locations the transaction that took place with Collectible Classics and Hagerty Auction. Both BaT and Hagerty have removed comments and my account has been restricted on BAT site.

The info to support my claims are listed below but please know that when confronted Hagerty will did not hold the sellers to their own written policies. They offered $1000.00 for me to go away. They are not interested in maintaining a safe arena for all.

I am submitting this complaint regarding what I believe were materially false and misleading representations made in connection with the sale of a 2002 Porsche 911 through Collectible Classics on the Hagerty Marketplace platform. I purchased the vehicle in reliance upon representations made in the auction listing that the car had undergone a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) by Amity Auto and that the inspection found no issues, leaks, or concerns. These statements were presented as factual information regarding the vehicle's condition and materially influenced my decision to bid and purchase the vehicle.

Shortly after taking possession, I learned that a prior winning bidder had ordered and paid for a limited inspection focused on bore scoring and paint concerns and subsequently declined to complete the purchase. Collectible Classics nevertheless characterized that limited inspection as a PPI.

After obtaining my own inspection, numerous defects requiring substantial repairs were identified. I then contacted Amity Auto directly and was informed by both telephone and email that it did not perform a Pre-Purchase Inspection on the vehicle. Amity Auto confirmed that its inspection was limited in scope, related only to bore scoring and paint concerns, and was not intended to serve as a comprehensive evaluation of the vehicle's overall condition. I have also obtained confirmation from both the individual who ordered the inspection and the individual who performed it that it was not a PPI.

This distinction is significant because a reasonable consumer understands a PPI to be a comprehensive inspection designed to identify material mechanical defects and maintenance concerns. Had I known that no actual PPI had been performed and that the inspection referenced in the listing was limited in scope, I would have obtained my own inspection, adjusted my bidding strategy, or declined to purchase the vehicle altogether.

Collectible Classics operates in the specialty and collector vehicle market, where PPIs are common and well understood. Given their experience, it is reasonable to expect that they understand the difference between a limited inspection and a true Pre-Purchase Inspection.

Despite being provided with documentation from Amity Auto, repair estimates, and other supporting evidence, Collectible Classics continues to deny responsibility and characterize the inspection as a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI). This inspection was purportedly performed by Amity Auto, a neighboring business that describes itself as a "2 Man Show" and a "general tire and auto repair shop". Despite repeated requests, neither Collectible Classics nor Amity Auto has produced the inspection documentation that was referenced during the auction and represented as available to the winning bidder.

The dealership continues to maintain that the inspection referenced in the auction listing was a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) and that it is sufficient to deny my claim.

I expect Joey may respond, as he has to other reviews, with additional unsupported explanations. However, despite repeated requests, I have not been provided documentation supporting several of the statements that have been made.

Joey has stated in prior reviews that the dealership has sold hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of collector vehicles. Given that experience, it is difficult to understand how they could fail to recognize the difference between a comprehensive Pre-Purchase Inspection and a limited inspection conducted for specific concerns by what has been described by Amity Auto themselves as a "two-man show" and a "general tire and auto repair shop" located next to Collectible Classics facility.

Why doesn't Bring a Trailer require a simply close up exterior walkaround video their listings?

I'm not expecting a 20 year old car to be perfect. Stone chips, scratches, and wear are completely normal. I just want to see what the car actually looks like up close before bidding.

I've noticed that some sellers (for example, Collectible Classics) seem to point out a few tiny imperfections while leaving out more noticeable ones. From a few feet away, the paint can look fantastic, but as soon as the camera gets close, you suddenly see swirl marks, chips, scratches, and other flaws that weren't obvious in the photos.

A standardized close up video, slowly going around the entire car from a consistent distance, would make it much easier for buyers to judge the true condition and compare listings fairly, rather than each seller choosing which little imperfection they themselves want to point out.

What do you all think? Would this improve transparency, or is it asking too much from sellers?

Where to rid of classic car parts

My dad was a classic car collector/rebuilder (1930's to 1950's), and I'm currently working with a consignment dealer to sell his collection on BaT after he died. Now we're left with the spare parts he left behind...the cars were all complete, so what's left is stuff he didn't need or just picked up at swap meets over the years - all parts from 30's to 50's Fords/Olds. Pared down considerably as he got older, but still occupying plenty of space in a large garage.

We've had a couple car folks go through it and verify there doesn't seem to be anything particularly high value in there. We've put out a few feels through them, but haven't found anywhere to sell them. I live across the country from where the parts are stored and am not going to be listing things individually. I'm new to BaT/car hobby things, wondering if I'm missing something about how one could get rid of car parts as a single lot? Are these destined for a salvage yard??

BaT Shipping Delays

Hello,

This would be my first purchase using Bring a Trailer and I opted to use the Bring a Trailer verified checkout process. Instead of driving the car back, I opted to have the car shipped through the transportation services they offer. It has been a little over a week and a half, and they have yet to find a transporter. Is this normal?

I don’t wanna be a bother to them, but I also feel there is no sense of urgency. At what point do I contact them or do they do something to further progress the ability for me to get my car?

Feeling a little lost and possibly impatient?

The route is San Diego to North Dakota (which I know probably isn’t a popular route, but I feel like I should have heard SOMETHING from them after 10 days.)

Bring a Trailer saying comments supersede vehicle description????

What are your thoughts on Bring a Trailer saying comments supersede the vehicle description. Example, description says the vehicle has working AC, no fluid leaks and 2 working doors. After your bid, someone ask the question how cold is the AC, oil pressure and doors? Seller states no AC, oil leaks with no pressure and 1 door is missing. You win the bid and Bring a Trailer said you are still responsible to move forward? This cant be legal?

Update: Seller recognizes that the comments are not official and is willing to work with me to resolve the issues. BAT just wants the sale so they can make their money. They said comments only matter when the bid was issued? Which makes no sense and will never hold up. I spoke to AMEX and they already refunded the charge.

Bid hold

When you bid and bat places their 5% hold, is that hold for every bid or just the initial one? Say if I bid 6k, 7k,8k,9k for the same car, will I be getting $300, 350, 400, 450 holds?

New to BaT (and selling cars in general) - Is my 350z a good candidate to be listed on BaT?

Long story short, within a year or so we hope to be starting a family so my 350z will need to be replaced for another car.

On one hand, my Z is in good condition. I keep up with maintenance regularly and don't abuse it. It was once my daily driver and I love it. Mechanically there are no issues.

On the other hand, it has decently high mileage, not in pristine cosmetic condition (door dings, scratches, ripped seats, scratched interior), it's been modified, etc. I think the biggest plus about this car is just the power train.

I'm just wondering if it's worth it to try and list it? Almost all the example Zs sold are a lot lower mileage and look like they're in better condition.

KBB estimates between $6-$8k for private sale and $5k-$7k for a trade in. When I look at that, I start to think it might be better to just trade it in...

Some details about my car:

  • 2008 Touring (so it has the HR engine, CD009 transmission, and VLSD differential)

  • 113k miles, clean title, 2nd owner

  • Major modifications: coilovers, exhaust, wheels, brembo brakes

some photos

Beware: anyone can bid on your listing on BaT with no consequences if they don’t follow through with the sale.

I listed my truck on Bring A Trailer last month and the auction was completed with a winning bid that met the reserve price. The vehicle was sold. However, the buyer became unresponsive immediately following the sale and to date, nearly a month later, Bring A Trailer has made no meaningful attempt to contact the buyer or resolve the situation.

Since the auction closed, I have reached out repeatedly via email and the Bring A Trailer chat platform. The responses I have received are infrequent, approximately every other week, and consist solely of a representative named Krystin directing me to contact the support email. That support email has not responded to me since the day I originally submitted my vehicle listing.

Bring A Trailer has failed to:

- Contact the non-responsive buyer on my behalf
- Refund the auction listing fee I paid
- Remove my listing so I can relist the vehicle on another platform

It has now been nearly a month since the auction closed with zero resolution. Beyond the financial impact, this situation has caused significant time loss and emotional burden.

Another example of dealers selling to dealers...

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2018-audi-tt-rs-14/

I've read several posts on this sub about dealer activity dominating transactions on BAT, but this is the first time I saw it myself in real time in an auction that I was following.

I was curious, so I commented just after the auction ended to poke the buyer to see if they'd bite. Their reply was just an attempt to defuse the question. So I searched Google with their BAT user name and their dealership site came up.

Found the car on the new dealer's website for $80K (it closed on BAT at $73,343). Honestly not that much of a markup once you factor in the 5% BAT fee etc.

I'm not really criticizing the dealer to dealer activity even though it isn't in the spirit of BAT's earlier days, but other than that I'd like to hear about this community's feelings on the different ways that this is bad for individual bidder's...

Collectible Classics misrepresenting factual results of limited inspection as a PPI!!!

I purchased a 2002 Porsche 911 through Hagerty Marketplace based in part on representations made by the owner on the auction site that the vehicle had undergone a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) that found no issues, no leaks of any kind, no concerns and no bore scoring even though they only scoped 3 cylinders. After taking delivery, significant defects were discovered that required substantial repairs. More importantly, Amity Auto—the shop that allegedly performed the PPI—confirmed by both phone and email that it did not perform a PPI and that its inspection was limited in scope to bore scoring and paint-related concerns.

Despite being provided with documents from Amity Auto, repair estimates, and other supporting evidence, neither the seller nor Hagerty has taken meaningful steps to address the misrepresentation or facilitate a resolution. The existence and results of the purported PPI were material facts that influenced the vehicle's perceived condition and value and were relied upon in making the purchase decision.

Have you purchased a used car over $100K?

Hey folks, has anyone here purchased a used vehicle in person or online for $100k or more? Could be from Bring A Trailer or elsewhere. I'm a user experience researcher – we're trying to talk to folks (anonymously) to understand how and where you tend to shop for a vehicle like its. It's a paid ($200) convo – Just seeing if there's interest or anyone applicable here? Or, where would be the best place to find folks like this? Hope this is okay to post!

Local Partners worth hiring?

There is a local partner about 30 miles (35 minutes) from me. Are these guys worth hiring for listing and photography help?
