2004 W12 Phaeton For Sale

I posted this a few weeks ago, but I figured I’d post it one more time before I part it out. I got it off auction with the intention of pulling the engine for a project and parting out the rest of the car. After purchasing the car I discovered it’s super rare (only about 500 were ever sold in the us). I hate to part out such a rare car so I’m trying to sell it instead.

It has its fair share of problems but it runs and drives; I think i’ve put about 40 miles on it since I got it. The majority of the features seem to work such as 18 way adjustable seats (except the forward and backward on the passenger seat for some reason), messaging seats, heated and cooled seats, vent covers, etc. Some things that don’t work include the ac (it blows just not cold), the parking sensors (they seem to function but will falsely go off because of the bumper damage I think), and the air suspension. Someone replaced the air suspension with coilovers which is sad but certainly cheaper than fixing broken air suspension.

I’m located in Ohio, asking $6k with $4k being my absolute lowest. 120k miles with a clean title.

1965 Mustang coupe to BaT even if we have not turned it on in a long, long time?

I am in the final stages of completing a very successful auction for a 1999 Jeep on Bring a Trailer. The entire process has been great, including dealing with a wonderful buyer.

My question now is whether I should bring my mother-in-law's 1965 Mustang coupe to BaT. It is a V8 automatic with about 125k miles and has been sitting in the same California garage as the Jeep. It is a one-family car since new, and we have the original bill of sale. It was also in a minor accident at some point and repaired, although I do not know the specifics.

The issue is that the Mustang has not been started since my father-in-law passed away about 17 years ago. It was running when it was parked.

Before he passed away, my father-in-law had the car repainted and had begun restoring the interior. Cosmetically, it still looks quite good after all these years. It has always been garaged, and from my initial look underneath, I do not see any significant rust.

We could spend some money having a shop go through it and try to get it running, but the owners, my wife and brother-in-law, are not particularly inclined to do that.

Would this be a reasonable car to submit to BaT as-is as a non-running project, given that it presents well cosmetically? Or would getting it running first make enough of a difference in the auction result to justify the cost and effort?

Coincidentally, a friend of mine was in almost the same situation with a Mustang within the last year. She ended up spending about $6k at a local shop to get hers going. We could use that same shop.

Lack of Communication-- Is This Normal?

I'm in the process of listing a car on BaT and am not impressed with the communication so far. I messaged them a basic question about photos 8 days ago and never heard back. I just called the phone number and left a message. The message said I would get a call back in a couple of days. I am wondering if I should list with Cars and Bids instead. At least when I called them, a human immediately answered the phone and answered my questions. For those of you who have sold a car on BaT, how was the communication throughout the process? I am not getting a great feeling at this point.

Restored 1977 Ford F150 w/ 400, C6, and Holley EFI

Selling my personal '77 on Bring a Trailer this week. I've really enjoyed this rig for the past few years. It's a super strong 400ci paired to a C6 and NP205 with a ton of modern upgrades after a full frame-off rotisserie restoration.

Ends on 8/24 on BaT at https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-ford-f-150-95/

873 cars were relisted from eBay to BaT in the last year

and often sell for a premium

  • This SLS AMG was listed for $360k and 2.5mo later sold on BaT for $470k
  • This 296 GTB was listed for $208k and sold on BaT 10 days later for $270k
  • This Land Cruiser was sold for $30k and then sold on BaT 3mo later for $71k

Of the top 100 listings that went from eBay -> BaT within 3 months, the median price jump was +46% (see below)

eBay had the most relistings, but 198 Cars & Bids cars and 168 Mecum cars were also relisted on BaT in the last year

Sharing because I thought this is pretty interesting - many popular auctions were sitting pretty on eBay without any action and at a much lower price for months, right before getting put on BaT

Edit: u/tonerocky made a good point that we should exclude eBay listings that went reserve not met. The revised price jump is +9% median and +40% avg. The 296 GTB went RNM, so I'll provide a better example: this Corvette that was sold for $105k and turned around 1mo later on BaT for $140k

How long should BaT take to get back to me?

I bought a vehicle on the website in January and three months after the purchase the dealer still did not give me the registration. I sent an email to BaT customer service and they told me to hold tight, it was coming soon. its now been 8 months, am I able to get my money back on this vehicle? I still dont have a title, and I cant register the car. Ive spoken to the dealership many times and he keeps saying the same thing, the title is coming. I even smogged the car twice now. Its also depreciated and im paying insurance on something I cant drive. Its been 2 days since I asked BaT to give me my buyers fee back and I told the dealer I want my money back and to come up up his car, any advice? Dealer was located in texas and I have all my documents from when I paid. This is the worst experience ive had buying a car, ever.

87 300ZX garage kept and parked for 20 years

My aunts car, she got it in 90 or 91, the ac went out in the early 2000s and it’s been in a garage ever since. She said she wanted to get rid of it. I asked if I could post it up to give her an idea of what it’d be worth to the right people. If I had the money I’d restore it myself.

Five star motor sport inc

Has anyone ever brought anything from auction site titled: Five star motor sport inc? They are saying they've been in business for 7 years but not a lot of conversations online. They are located in Costa Mesa, California

1991 STEALTH R/T NA F/S

I’m getting terrible offers on FB, figured I would put it up here. I don’t want to sell it but life happens. It’s got 100k miles on it. will need brakes in the future. i just did all the brake lines, and fixed some exhaust components. A/C recently stopped blowing cold. She runs and rides great. the climate control also stopped
illuminating. needs a paint job but the body is straight with do dents rust or rot. has the notorious lifter tap on cold starts.

shes a runner and a project but shes close done. im in south jersey and am open to REASONABLE offers.

Thanks.

BidBud Follow Up: I built the bidding tool. Free, Beta, and I’d like it picked apart.

A few weeks back I posted here asking whether people would use a live bidding tool. The responses shaped what I built, so here it is. The initial onboarding is vibe-coded, but everything else involves my blood, sweat, and tears.

It's a free Chrome extension. On a BaT listing it shows you:

A fair-value range built from more than 100k past auctions.

Your true all-in cost — hammer plus fee, tax, shipping, inspection.

A ceiling you can lock, where raising it makes you type out what new information justifies it.

A read on the listing text and comments for things worth checking.

It does not bid.

Fair warning that this is a beta.

The next-bid model is trained on auction bidding history and is more useful in the endgame than during slow stretches.

Win probability is a heuristic.

Comp matching uses year/model/mileage.

Here’s the link:

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/bidbud/fkoebkecabdhgkcgljbepgbphkfkkedo

A few things I'd like to know: does the fair-value range match your instinct on cars you know well? If it's ever badly wrong, tell me which listing; all of the feedback here will go into refining the next version.

This Forester XT 5MT on BaT is getting interesting

Anyone else watching this spicy BaT auction for the XT Forester MT?

Not sure if I can post the link here, but there was quite a bit of bidding back and forth yesterday. What do you guys think it ends up going for?

Scheduling a PPI prior to conclusion of BAT of auction?

Confused on how a PPI is supposed to work for an auction when don’t know if you will win? What’s the point of scheduling and paying for one only to be outbid? Can they be scheduled after you win as a contingency?
