1965 Mustang coupe to BaT even if we have not turned it on in a long, long time?
I am in the final stages of completing a very successful auction for a 1999 Jeep on Bring a Trailer. The entire process has been great, including dealing with a wonderful buyer.
My question now is whether I should bring my mother-in-law's 1965 Mustang coupe to BaT. It is a V8 automatic with about 125k miles and has been sitting in the same California garage as the Jeep. It is a one-family car since new, and we have the original bill of sale. It was also in a minor accident at some point and repaired, although I do not know the specifics.
The issue is that the Mustang has not been started since my father-in-law passed away about 17 years ago. It was running when it was parked.
Before he passed away, my father-in-law had the car repainted and had begun restoring the interior. Cosmetically, it still looks quite good after all these years. It has always been garaged, and from my initial look underneath, I do not see any significant rust.
We could spend some money having a shop go through it and try to get it running, but the owners, my wife and brother-in-law, are not particularly inclined to do that.
Would this be a reasonable car to submit to BaT as-is as a non-running project, given that it presents well cosmetically? Or would getting it running first make enough of a difference in the auction result to justify the cost and effort?
Coincidentally, a friend of mine was in almost the same situation with a Mustang within the last year. She ended up spending about $6k at a local shop to get hers going. We could use that same shop.
