On-campus accommodation

Has anybody had any joy in getting accommodation on campus? I’m going into second year, I applied in first year, didn’t get it, applied again that August and didnt get it. Applied in Feb this year, didn’t get it, and just emailed campus residences and they said there were no rooms available. I was told they’d be holding another lottery soon, so I’ll still hold out, but I was just checking if anyone has actually been successful in getting accommodation this way. It’s sickening, because I live so far away, and it’s literally impossible for me to get to campus before 11:30 with public transport..

Are resits marked harder?

Title says it. I had a resit last week, and I am absolutely shitting it for my results. I feel like I did awful, despite having studied so much and going into the exam so confidently.. the original exam was marked harsh enough so I was just wondering if this will be marked to the same standard… I’m only in first year, and I’ve passed all my other modules. This exam genuinely felt more difficult than the original, which doesn’t make sense to me.

Has anyone else been in this position? How do yous think yous did in the resits?

Awful Supercell Support

I recently contacted supercell support, because I had not received the dragon duke backpack, and my quest required me to use it. This is the response I got back. Are you kidding me? How does this help in any way, shape, or form? Has anyone found a fix to this?

How do I actually build discipline and improve my life?

I’m at a point where I feel like I really need to change my life, but I don’t really know where to start.

I want to lose weight, improve my discipline, get better at studying, stop procrastinating, and actually prepare properly for exams instead of leaving everything until the last minute and panicking. I keep telling myself I’ll start tomorrow, but then tomorrow comes and I fall back into the same habits.

My social life also isn’t great. Honestly, I have no friends at the moment, and I feel like that makes everything harder. I want to become more social and meet people, but I don’t really know how to start without feeling awkward or forcing it.

The main things I want to improve are:
Losing weight and getting healthier
Building a proper study routine
Stopping procrastination, especially around exams
Improving focus and concentration
Building a social life and making friends
Becoming more disciplined overall

I know there probably isn’t one magic answer, but I’d really appreciate practical advice from people who have been in a similar position. What habits actually helped you turn things around? How do you start when you feel overwhelmed and behind in several areas at once?

I also forgot to mention doomscrolling. This is probably one of my biggest problems. I’ll open my phone for “five minutes” and suddenly I’ve wasted an hour scrolling through TikTok, Reddit, or whatever else. It destroys my focus and makes it way harder to study or do anything productive.

For anyone who has managed to cut down on doomscrolling, what actually worked for you? Did you delete apps, set limits, use blockers, replace it with something else, or just build more self-control over time? I’d appreciate practical advice on how to stop reaching for my phone whenever I feel bored, stressed, or overwhelmed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

How shite are Rte?

Watching USA vs Australia here. Second goal had a var check for offside. Player was clearly onside but these commentators (idk who they are sorry), wouldn’t shut up, ‘this will be ruled out, he’s clearly offside, surprised these needs a check to be honest’. Then, the goal is given, and they’re shocked and watch the replay again, and realise they were looking at the wrong person the whole time. How incompetent can you be?

Struggling with Linear Algebra

For context, I am a first year actuarial mathematics university student. I have passed calc 1 and 2, real analysis 1, probability 1, I’ve done micro and macro economics and python and R. However, I have failed linear algebra 1 and 2, I failed both of them with ~37%. Conceptually, I just don’t really understand what I’m doing when I do linear algebra. I can do the ‘computational’ side of linear algebra but when it comes to proofs I am just completely lost. What really gets me is the abstraction to R^n. I know that it’s just n dimensions, but when it comes to proofs in R^n I just can’t do them. Any advice?

I’m in Glasnevin near DCU, and I’m hearing these screaming noises, it sounds like some sort of animal? I took a video but it won’t let me upload it here. It’s been going on for about 20 minutes now at this stage
