I’m building a cabinet/shelf. What type of wood should I use? I will be removing the existing wood that’s on top for plywood. Need something that can hold weight as I will be sitting things like mixer and toaster and etc on top. Thanks in advance.

Context: I have a 1920s house. There was a wall and here with this shelf thing behind it. I tore it down and decided to make some shelves for a pantry. I added to the framing to match the height on the left. Had to do it this way because it had a slope . My question is, how would I drywall it so that the top of the drywall here (on picture) won’t show?

Context: I have a 1920s house. Currently I’m renovating this back area because of poor insulation. There was a wall here but I tore it down and found this behind it. Wife and I want to make this a pantry space. However I’m not a carpenter and could you some help or ideas on what to do here. We would like to add shelves to the space to the right. I know some framing is involved. Question is, should I remove the top and slanted pieces of wood to add 2x4 to match the height of the area on the left?
picture says it all. somewhere I messed up on the corner piece. can I had hot mud to the corner then add corner bead or do I have to replace?
I have a house that is 107 yrs old. currently im removing the old plaster and replacing with drywall. my main concern is on an exterior wall.this exterior wall did not have lath but only what I assume to be plaster. my question is, is this plaster? i would like to put up a 1/4 drywall to match the existing board that was there before I removed (see pics) but I’m kinda worried about moisture. there was no signs of moisture or wet spots before nor mold. can I just put the drywall up with glue to the plaster? I can’t put furring strips as the drywall will sit on top of the cabinets. any tips would be appreciated.
