Couple CBs on their way to the old Utah motorsports Park, to do battle.
After 26 years of not speaking with him, my father finally died. I have no regrets.
He raised me to worship him, had me running distance races at the age of six, which is now a heavy contributor of my inability to walk. to put this in context, I found an old running race ribbon where at the age of six I ran five consecutive 10 minute miles. That’s something that no child should have to go through.
Very rarely had nice things to say about others, they were always too tall, too short, too fat, too skinny too loud too quiet, too uneducated or overeducated. People of alternative sexuality were always referred to by the derogatory, the nastiest thing you could say, usually within ear shot
One night at a very nice restaurant, a woman of size walked in, and my father sitting at a table full of family for the whole restaurant to hear, “I didn’t know it was whale watching season!!”
He was that guy.
Full Ivy League educated, had every opportunity in life, but never followed through with any adult commitments to their end. It took me a while to figure out his joy was picking apart the joy of others. Such a waste as he had the skills to accomplish so much in life. The problem was that you could fit his sense of follow through in a gnats navel and still have enough room for two caraway seeds, and the collective integrity that he showed his children.
Reading the obituary that his widow wrote for him, ya would’ve thought that I was raised by Captain America. And talking with my half siblings we shook our heads and wondered who this woman knew because it was not a man that we knew.
Ironically, enough, he died while traveling to my half sisters home to try to rekindle some sort of relationship with her.
I don’t know if my path is the right path for everyone, in fact I’d be rather certain that it’s not. We all come in many different shapes, colors, and sizes and emotions.
But for me, it’s something about which I hold no regret. My father never had the opportunity to pick apart my minority wife, or meet his gorgeous granddaughter, in fact, he never knew that they existed when he passed. I’m OK with that.
Anyhow, that’s my story, don’t ever forget to be true to your story, for me the whole world feels a little lighter now that he’s moved on.
Since we’re wrecking Phu Yen by posting about it for Internet points, represent the last 200,000d lobster dinner I had, and probably the last I will ever have.
My mother’s 1962 student ID card from her year abroad in France.
Marble Mountain, 1954. Whoa, just look at that coastline. Not an influencer in sight.
Some of my favorite T-shirts worn by family and friends.
some of these are hard to find anymore…
So this one time I quit my job sold everything I owned and rode a motorcycle for two years. Took me places. 1996.
I always wanted to be a stock broker growing up, and after two years, I realized what a sham the whole game is. I walked into Jesse’s office at my firm in San Diego and told him I’ve had enough. I had no idea where I was going, no schedule. But I had a my murdercicle, a passport and heavy duty wanderlust.
Took me lots of places. If you ever get a wild hair, I highly recommend it. This photo is from Cape Aguhas, ZA, southernmost point in Africa.
The original lantern boat before lantern boats were a thing. I miss those days.
1986. My first car.
my first car a ‘62VW Baja bug . Straight pipes. My Ziggy Marley shirt from the concert that summer, and Tevas, pleated shorts. I miss those days.
On the hunt for a good island pizza dough recipe, preferably for a countertop electric oven.
Our local pizza joint just raise the price to $30 for a 16 inch cheese pizza. I just can’t do it.
Part of my life story, a very early part was making pizzas in a restaurant (most fun I’ve ever had making seven dollars an hour), where the recipes were very environmentally dependent. Being that I’ve never cooked a pizza in this environment, I thought I’d reach out and ask.
Really looking for a good one that can make a nice thin crispy pizza.
Mahalo plenty for any help.
