Google selecting old decommissioned domain as canonical for new domain

Hi Community,

I am facing a canonical issue with my new website. Google is choosing my old, decommissioned domain (mypathankot.in) as the Google-selected canonical instead of the new domain.

The Situation:

Old Domain: mypathankot.in (Completely removed and discontinued).
New Domain: pathankotcity.in (Live & active).
Canonical Setup: Self-referencing canonical tag <link rel="canonical" href="pathankotcity.in" /> is present in the <head> of the new site.
Sitemap: Submitted successfully (/sitemap.xml) with 23 discovered URLs.

GSC Inspection Details:

Live Test: Passes with green ticks ("URL is available to Google" & "Page can be indexed").
Indexed Version Status: "Page is not indexed: Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user"
User-declared canonical: pathankotcity.in
Google-selected canonical: mypathankot.in

Since the old domain is no longer in use, Googlebot is holding onto the cached canonical of the old domain.

How can I force Googlebot to re-evaluate the canonical declaration and index pathankotcity.in properly?

Any guidance would be highly appreciated!
