thoughts on Under Pressure Coffee?

For me, it’s the closest coffee shop. But I put the extra effort in walking elsewhere to other coffee shops.… actually I straight-up walk past it to reach other coffee shops. what about you? The one on 31st and 31st.

Its such a great location and very open… but something about it… doesn’t fit my taste. Coffee is lackluster, clientele eyes you down whenever you enter, and the food… is, whatever.

Please give me criticism. How do the black tables look? Is it a meaningful contrast? ALSO…

I want a TV stand table / media console but don’t went to overdo it. Something simple. Would a credenza work? What color should it be? Thank you. BTW not for scale

Leaving LI for the city. Who’s done this in their 20s

I’ve lived ON LI all my life. It’s all I know. I did briefly sublease an apartment in Harlem last summer but that was short lived. I’m a newly college graduate and I landed a job in the city. I tried to do the LIRR commute for a few months but it has become so unbearable. Also - I no longer have a car as of last October, so it’s brutal getting around where Im currently at. I have to Uber everywhere and my QOL has spiraled

Signed a lease in Astoria Queens only 15min away from Manhattan. Bars and cafes and everything galore within a 1mi radius. 1. It’s so bittersweet. On the one hand I’m going to miss Long Island but I do hear many people my age are making the move into the city. The rent is awfully expensive where I’m moving to - but crazy thing is, the rent is about the same in some new places on LI 3500+ 1br. Why pay that rent to live in LI when I can do so in NYC and potentially get more (as a young person I guess). Anyways, hope to bump into fellow Long Islanders in the city. wish LI would be more receptive to walkability + better rentprices

What are some good **cocktail** bars?

I’m looking for nice cocktail bars with GOOD cocktails (I know about Bar Dalia already) - keyword cocktail bar, not a regular bar, with good drinks and a nice chic setting ;)

Anyone have recommendations?

An owl? My time is coming perhaps?

I’ve been an avid researcher into aliens and the like, ufology, etc, since I was at least 14. Anyways, beyond that, last night the weirdest thing occurred to me. As weird as it sounds, an owl was seemingly directly against my window or near my window and continually hooting away. It was after 3am. Now, im not dramatic or anything but i’ve never heard an owl in my area (i’m in a urban area) and as some of you may be aware, owls are closely related to ufology and alien conversations.

So am i going paranoid, or is my time (abduction) slowly coming? I think i invested too much into the alien/ufology phenomenon.

Grown ass men, btw

Incapable of utilizing public transport. They never utilize it because they’re sheltered in Long Island so the one time they take the LIRR, they pull shit like this. This is just one area with garbage pooled under the seat.

I am so defeated. I loved their Taco Truck margarita. Anyone knows why? This is insane.

Living in Astoria as a POC (black male)

Let’s just say I am a little concerned. I just signed a lease for an apt off the Broadway stop off 31st Ave. For context Ive lived in Bedstuy, East Village, etc, and I’ve been comfortable. I’ve also visited Astoria numerous times over the years. OK, fine. I decided to tour the area myself a bit for a while, and went to a coffee shop. An older man dropped a chair, and I picked it up for him. He gave me the nastiest most yuckiest look I’ve ever seen from someone in my life. And said something disgruntled under his breath. You can’t even be nice to people - that’s exhausting for them? Anyways, that encounter kinda set the tone for me immediately upon my first tour, not even fifteen minutes in the area. Upon heading back to the subway, on a long ass walk, I noticed not one black individual LOL. I am fine with this, well not really because I’m used to the … “feeling as if I belong here” feeling in Brooklyn/Manhattan, and it’ll be a lot to adjust to being an outlier. Good thing is, my block is quiet and the apartment is great (although I do feel like I got robbed with the rent), I just feel like i’ll be an outlier here, as if I’ll have to travel to Brooklyn often or Manhattan for a vibey crowd.

Alien at my job. weird experience.

Hi! I posted this in another sub but also looked through subs and thought this 1 would be compatible too. Background. I am a registered nurse working at a large urban hospital in E Coast USA. I had a patient …. look less human… more humanoid. First time i got report for the patient, ”she” was quickly admitted from the ER downstairs. The patient was transported upstairs to me very quickly, the quickest i’ve ever seen. Anyways “she “ was transported upstairs by transport with half her head covered. I went to take the cover off her face, to my surprise I embarrassingly startled myself, backed up a few feet, professionally said sorry, and rushed outside to get a coworker and to this day remember asking her “do i have a human here”? The person spoke monotone and robotically but humanly… a mix between the both. She was AOX1 (knew herself, but not place or time), and had round eyes to the point that startled me and the CNA. She was pale and had large eyes and hollowed face, facial features that were so weird. Nonhuman. She would know when we were coming to see her (for meds, vitals, interventions etc.) from down the hall The creepiest part of it all… was how she was hastily discharged the morning on of. It was before shift end… mind you i got her three hours prior - and all of a sudden she was discharged . That would never happen unless it’s a upgrade to the ICU or something like that .

Anyways me and my coworker talk about it to this day. Last summer it happened. I get goosebumps still. The whole thing feels bizarre and unnatural to this day.

Mexico City CDMX and Long Island….

I met nearly 15 people who lived in Long Island and are living in Mexico City now - i’ve only been here for two months. Theyre on the young side (so as me) so found it pretty interesting to see such a “diaspora“.. A bunch of other people i met have ties to NYC but i was pleasantly shocked to meet Long Islanders in this vast dystopian tropical city…. just an interesting observation. I’ve moved here a few months ago from Suffolk county (i lived in NYC for some time prior). Interesting!
