I felt unusually competent this week when a dataset I track unexpectedly came in handy for an “unrelated” project. Hell yea.
I also felt unusually competent when I sealed some baseboard cracks with silicone gel/caulk, and the ants stopped coming in. Hell yea.
Has anyone had problems with their gas? My car reliably makes odd noises after refueling here.
I live in the SF bay area and my 2011 997.2 carerra s hates chevron techron gas. Shell v power runs much better.
Anyone else notice gas preferences for their 997s?
Happy to report that replacing the purge valve fixed 99% if the hesitation problems for me! Yay
However, it seems that fix unmasked some other issues.
I’m hearing some waka waka… grrr noises while accelerating. Feels like something isn’t aligned.
When I took it in to diagnose the purge valve hesitation thing, I had them check the exhaust because it looked misaligned. They fixed the look but not sure what’s going on inside.
I changed the engine mounts in the last couple years, and read the pdk has some mounts too. Maybe the alignment with the transmission is off?

As someone who studied stats undergrad and industrial engineering operations research grad, and who thinks about the practical business of ML components in software....
I get lost and a bit hopeless when I think about how to make useful software out of ML models in a reasonable amount of time, and in the current business environment.
And when I look at the businesses where I have worked that have mountains of middle management running tiny bits of the ML model lifecycle (think feature extraction, data ingestion and integration, training infra, hosting infra, more hosting infra, applied science)... that only makes my head hurt even more.
How do you go about making practical software out of ML components?
Edit: I should mention that I mean from scratch ML components, not just a call to a third party hosted tool.
Hi all! I’ve had a few fuel-system related issues in my beloved pdk 997.2. I’m the third owner, had it for about 2 years so far, live in the CA bay area.
First was HPFP failure. Then was AOS + breather hose (not sure if this counts as “fuel system” tbh)
The carfax indicates that the fuel sender unit (maybe including the pump???) was replaced pretty early on.
Recently I’ve noticed that the “clunkiness” that I was feeling is correlated with hesitation during low speed low rpm acceleration. The car feels much better (no clunks, less hesitation) right after filling up the tank.
From googling I’ve got the following items on my list for next trip to mechanic:
What do you think I should add to this list or do in the mean time? I know this car could feel better!

The rokit 8s are nice but they’re not ideal for the space. By the time it’s loud enough my neighbors hate me. I usually use tv buitin audio.

M4-gery AR 15, which I bought piece by piece and assembled with my father (sell/trade) (Lower is DPMS, upper is stag arms) (this one does have some memorabilia value to me but living in CA makes this less fun.
Walther P99 QA, which I bought because I always thought it was cool, even though I hate using it (sell/trade)
I live in CA and have a fixed bolt action on the AR15. Super lame and doesn't feel as fun to shoot. I don't enjoy shooting handguns. So I'm thinking of selling/trading 2 and 3 and picking up another bolt action rifle.
What would you suggest? Maybe a center fire bolt action rifle? (or something completely different that's legal in CA)
I was informed that after an AOS + breather hose failure, it might be a good idea to look into carbon cleaning.
Like duct cleaning for my HVAC, I’m super skeptical about this, short of a partial rebuild of the engine.
What does “carbon cleaning” entail? How do you pick someone to do it? (I’m in the SF Bay Area )
At low speeds and low rpm, I get that lugging feeling.
I have to accelerate a certain amount for the pdk to shift smoothly, and sport mode and manual shifting helps a lot to get higher rpms and keep it smooth.
But when crawling along… short repeated low speed bursts, shifting between 1 and 2… my car hates me.
How do you drive a pdk 997.2 in stop and go traffic?
I got the Jaquemonde wing for 997.2 (looks like .2 aerokit and .1 gt3), and had my body shop do a test fit.
The body shop folks seemed really skeptical about it. They ultimately told me it didn’t line up properly and they couldn’t fit it.
Manufactuerer suggested taking out these black plastic clips on the hinges to make more space. (See photo)
Should this be necessary? Should I look for a different shop? I’m in the SF bay area in case you have a recommendation!

I purchased a 2011 911 about 2 years ago. Car had 62k miles, 3 instances of minor damage on carfax, and the perfect spec for me (including speed yellow).
I knew it was risky, but was willing to repair. Want to see what you all think of these repairs, any pattern or normal wear and tear?
In addition to these, I also did some regular maintenance items, like battery upgrade to AGM, pdk service, diff fluid, brakes, hood struts.
Does this seem like a reasonable amount of maintenance and repairs in 2 years for a 15 year old 65k mile 997.2? Anything else I should save up for HA?
