Assuming that Sukuna knows absolutely nothing about the sorcerers of the Edo era and the sorcerers of the Edo era know absolutely nothing about Sukuna beforehand (also assuming that Sukuna is trying to kill them as fast as possible)

Considering that he still drinks after this chapter I assume his liver is in even worse state in the more recent chapters.
Yamamura is easily the most incompetent detective in the series if he decided to quit they'd be much better off (keep in mind that during this case his carelessness had already let a killer escape), not to mention that Mitsuhiko would have 100% died if they didn't get lucky (due to the fact that the killer only wanted to see the fireflies).
By encouraging him to continue being a detective he either allows him to come to wrong conclusions about a case or wrongly accuse someone of a crime (keep in mind that Conan isn't around to solve all of his cases for him).
Not to mention when he becomes a Inspector later on (which gives him even more authority), thanks to Shinichi solving cases while using him as a mouthpiece.
