One of our hens has gone broody
One of my little white laced red Cornish bantams has decided she wants to be a mama! We do also have a little roo the same breed as her, as well as some white leghorns, barred rocks, Sicilian buttercups, speckled sussex, and a few others.
But I am here to get any advice if I decide to let her try and hatch a few chicks. She chose the most popular nesting box among my flock so do I need to move her to her own little area? I didn’t see her leave the coop at all yesterday to eat or drink. They are locked up in the coop at night, and let out in the morning, they’re fed layer feed and then free range all day.
I have noticed we’ve had some fertilized eggs when I am cracking them to cook them because they’ll have the little bullseye, is there a way I can check the ones she’s sitting on?
But also any advice on how to break it if we decide to go that route as well please!
Can you name all the breeds in my flock?
Chicken Trivia, I like taking guesses with everyone’s flock. Just thought it’d be fun
Looking to complete these 5 sets
I attached a few pictures of some I have to trade, if you need a specific one just ask and I may have!
Pure Joy
I am a first time chicken mom, raised them since chicks, free range on 40+ acres (but really don’t leave the outer perimeter of house), and so far all of my first time layers have laid in their nesting boxes and today I got three! I am so excited but have no one else who actually gets my excitement, even to just see their egg colors!
Alcohol Partner
OK, so this is really hard for me to admit, but my partner has always been a really bad alcoholic and that said we’ve been together about 10 years. We have two kids. They are four and two, but he has always been a very very very, very bad alcoholic and recently I’ve you know wanted to drink a little bit with him and that’s where I realized how bad his problem is and how his problem put our kids in danger and I want to be with him. He is an amazing person but when he drinks, he’s an asshole and he’s a awful person and it’s already been 10 years that we’ve been together. He’s always had this problem with alcohol, which enhance is why I struggled a little bit, but I knew our kids need a sober parent and I just I want stories or experience from people who have actually gone through this I don’t wanna hear your whatever but ends. I need real life experience in this because this is real life and this is life I am living.
First Egg!
Got our first egg today! And inside of the nesting box, my girls free range so it’s exciting!!
I was told an Isa Brown but they’re very light and have that really pretty feathering color
