Public Github Issues/Roadmap

Would D&D Beyond consider a more visible community roadmap / bug & feature request board?

First, I want to say that I’ve really appreciated the increased communication from the D&D Beyond team, especially the changelog and the effort to share what has been worked on and improved. I think it’s a great way to keep the community engaged while also highlighting all the work happening behind the scenes from the product and development teams.

It made me wonder if there could eventually be a more visible, community-facing roadmap for D&D Beyond.

I completely understand that D&D Beyond is private software, not an open-source project, and that there are probably many reasons why the team can’t publicly share everything that is being worked on. I’m also not suggesting opening up the actual codebase.

What I have in mind is more like a public-facing issue/roadmap board. GitHub Issues or Projects would be one example, but it could obviously be any platform that provides similar functionality.

The idea would be to have one place where the community could:

  • See features that are actively being worked on, when the team is comfortable sharing them.
  • Report bugs and see whether an issue has already been reported.
  • Submit feature requests.
  • Upvote bugs or feature requests that are particularly important to them.
  • Add additional context or examples to existing reports instead of creating duplicates.
  • See basic statuses such as "Reported," "Under Review," "Planned," "In Progress," or "Resolved."

I know there are already several ways to provide feedback. Maps has its own feedback functionality, the team seems to actively monitor this subreddit, and there is also the Discord server where people can report issues and provide feedback. The people helping on Discord have also been incredibly active and friendly.

I just think having a centralized and visible board could complement all of those channels.

One advantage would be reducing duplicate reports. If I encounter a bug, I could check the board, see that someone has already reported it, upvote it, and potentially add more information to help reproduce it. The same thing could apply to feature requests.

It could also give the community a better understanding of what other players are experiencing. If an issue has hundreds of votes, for example, that gives both the community and potentially the D&D Beyond team another signal about how widespread or important something might be.

Of course, I don't think votes should dictate the development roadmap. The team has its own priorities, technical constraints, business requirements, dependencies, and information that we don't have access to. Something having 500 votes doesn't necessarily mean it should immediately become the highest-priority item.

Issues could also have public labels such as priority or severity where appropriate, making it clear that a highly requested feature isn't necessarily considered critical, while a less visible bug could have a much higher internal priority.

I can also see the downsides.

Having a huge public backlog could potentially create additional pressure on the development team. People might interpret "planned" as a promise, or become frustrated when something stays in the backlog for a long time. There may also be features that simply can't be discussed publicly until they're ready.

So I completely understand if this level of visibility isn't feasible or desirable.

But even if the roadmap portion were limited, I think a centralized community-facing bug and feature request board could be really useful. It wouldn't need to expose internal tickets, private discussions, implementation details, or deadlines. It could simply act as a public layer between the community and the internal development process.

As a developer myself, I'm probably a little biased toward this kind of system because I'm used to GitHub issues and similar workflows. But I think it could be a genuinely interesting way to engage the community, consolidate feedback, reduce duplicate reports, and give everyone a little more visibility into what is being reported and worked on.

I'd be curious to know whether the D&D Beyond team has considered something like this before, and I'd also love to hear what other people in the community think.

Thank you all, Gen Con was amazing, super excited for upcoming releases. You are all doing an amazing job :)

Vulnerabilities

I wish there was more emphasis in the game to play with that mechanics. It feel few monsters have vulnerabilities.

Think it could be rewarding for player to try different damage type during combat and find the monsters vulnerability.

This could also give more importance to some spell that has different damage type. I understand resistances and invulnerability also do this in a way.

But what I would like to see is also a better mix of resistance, vulnerabilities across monster. So many monster invulnerable to poison for example. Feel it would be better If the damage type representation was more varied.

What do you think? Does it make sense?

Weekly Drop-in Encounter suggestions

Hello all,

First wanted to say that I like the D&D drops. It is an easy plug and play experience to spin up a quick encounters from time to time. I like to have different maps and differents monster to use/fight.

One suggestions for the team.

Would it be possible to include a mini scenario for each drop? Nothing crazy, but a small paragraph or two, to explain what this encounter is all about, just enough to inspired the DM/Players.

This could be a link to a dndbeyond article or create a space in the UI to reveal some text, maybe even include that in the journal (which is new) for that specific map? So it give additional infos about this quick play map.

Other info like which creature are part of the drop would be welcome, before we use to add that quick play map.

The scenario could included some type or reward/items/treasure the players would gain for defeating that encounters.

Anyway, just something I think could be cool to see and could enhance those drops.

Thank you all, really enjoying my time in the vtt at the moment and excited to see upcoming feature!

"In Universe" Setting Wishlist

Hello all,

I am made a post the other day, related to which "Universes beyond" you would personally like to see in the future, and read really good suggestions, so was thinking what about original D&D setting you would like to see for 5.5e?

Since 2024 we got a Forgotten Realms book, a Ravenloft kook, and Eberron book and we will get a Dark Sun book early 2027 (which people thought would never happen), will get an full adventure in Greyhawk and during Gen Con they hint that Dragonlance would made a comeback. So it seem the D&D team want to publish setting book more and more (i like that).

Me personally, would like to see:

  • Spelljammer (i know they did something for 5e)
  • Mytsara

Also, I think it would be really cool to get a brand new setting. I must admit I don't know them all, but after seeing what is coming to MTG (bear with me please), I wouldn't mind a setting that take place in water like they are doing with Nauctis or an Afro-fantasy setting like they are doing with Zhalfir. Both art direction look incredible, super evocative. Also a setting bringing Asia culture, mythology would be super interesting to me (India, China, Japan just to name a few).

What do you all think?

TLDR; What original D&D setting (or brand new idea) would you like to see adapted for 5.5e?

Universes Beyond Wishlist

Ok this is just for fun, but what would be your favorite crossover to match with D&D. We now know WoW and Star Wars are the two next "Universe Beyond".

What you get you excited if an new IP was revealed?

On my end here is a quick list:

  • Diablo
  • Final Fantasy
  • The Witcher
  • Innistrad (thats an MTG plane, maybe to close to what Ravenloft is, but love the gothic theme)
  • Lord of the ring (I know free league, already made a game, and a 5e version, but would be interesting to see what the D&D team could do)

P.S. Would love to see SpellJammer redone before any other Universe Beyond btw, one can wish

New WoW book collector edition only available for U.S?

Hello, can’t seem to buy product on dndbeyond if outside the U.S. I live in Canada, does that mean I won’t have access to the new collector bundle for WoW?

Does all subclass published so far in 5.5e came out of UA?

Did we got any subclass surprises or they always come out of UA first.

I wouldn’t mind a surprise for a new release example the books in season of champion, but wondering if we will only get the one that appeared in UA?

Thanks all

Number of Subclass per class (so far)

Hello, thought it could be interesting to see all the current official (WOTC) subclass that have been release so far for 5.5e + the upcoming one for Arcana Unleash.

With the upcoming release, Wizard will have 9 subclass to choose from, whereas Barbarian and Druid will still have only the 4 that came out with the player handbook.

Cleric seem to be consistent with one new subclass per release (if we excluded the eberron book)

Really curious to see if the subclass that will be release in the "season of Champion" book will add to the martials.

What does jump out to you?

Class PhB 2024 Forgotten Realm Ebberon: Forge of the Artificer Ravenloft: Horrors Within Arcana Unleash Total
Artificer 5 1 6
Barbarian 4 4
Bard 4 1 1 6
Cleric 4 1 1 1 7
Druid 4 4
Fighter 4 1 1 6
Monk 4 1 5
Paladin 4 1 5
Ranger 4 1 1 6
Rogue 4 1 1 6
Sorcerer 4 1 1 6
Warlock 4 1 1 6
Wizard 4 1 4 9

Adventure / module recommendations

Hello, looking for a short adventure to run, not a full level 1 to 10-12 campaign. I know there is some anthology for 5e/5.5e. Do you have any favorites. Also 3rd work for me.

Simply shoot your favorite short adventure and where I can find it. (Also why you like it would be nice to know)

Thank you all,
A DM who want to try something different

Request for dndbeyond team - QUICK PLAY MAPS

Hello, first let me tell you that I am very please with the direction of dndbeyond as of late.

lots of great new features and bug fixes that made me and my players enjoy more and more the game.

one suggestions/request I would love to see introduce in the short term is to expand the list of module that has access to quick play.

only new 5.5 adventure see to have it, but there is an easy 12+ module made for 5e that still do not has that features.

having the token place on the map is a huge time saving. since we also do not have full fledge adventure/campaign releases since the 5.5 core rule, we are still playing those modules.

please add quick play to those as well.

BONUS: if you could have a conversion or choose between 5e vs 5.5e during the quick play creation it would be chef kiss

thank you all, love where the vtt is going
