Cutting WITHOUT crop marks? Roland gs2-24

Hi all,

I have a functional cutter that works fine, usually we use A4 decals with crop marks.

However I wanted to try my hand at using it as a plotter for large schematic type things on paper. I managed to 3D print a little pen holder and did a few samples on A4 which went fine (with crop marks I believe) Then I tried a larger scale roll of paper without crop marks and it's not having it, I managed to get one go out of it but it only acted like half the page existed, now I've come back to try again and when I hit cut it just makes a noise pretending to work for a second then does nothing (no error). The cutter works fine generally so it's not a cutter or communication issue.

I can't see much help via the user manual for "cutting" without crop marks. Do I use tool mode? Or another? I tried tool mode and the best I eventually got was an error saying it was out of bounds or something so maybe I've entered a larger cutting area than it can handle but not sure how to proceed.

Any help would be appreciated 😊

Curved waistband

Hi Everyone,

I've tried drafting a curved waistband for a pair of pants but it turned out wayyy off somehow.

I did the suggested rectangle then divided and darted then cut and taped together (with a curve to smooth out)

But the result somehow ended with a 40mm at the centre and like 25 at the sides?

I will admit it was a rush sew, so some of that is simply error on my part when sewing. But the I measured the waistband pattern piece with a ruler and it's slightly different widths, only a couple of mm but still enough to annoy me. Probably not helped by the fact that it's so curved it's practically a flounce at this point which also makes it hard to accurately measure.

Any tips for a consistent width when drafting? And drafting methods that don't rely on just chopping off the waist part of a pattern?

Single fold binder 3D print?

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone knows of any bias binding sets that are *single fold* not double? Finding it impossible to locate any on thingyverse, and I've tried a few other places. I just want something to assist with folding and ironing some 15mm binding in half and although I've designed stuff myself I only currently have access to tinkercad which I don't think is really capable of making the kind of complex curves required for guiding the material through.

Thank you 😊

Servo motor recommendations AU

Hi everyone,

Wanting to upgrade my old clutch motors for my machines to a servo but have no idea where to start.

Being Aus there's not a great deal of variety from 'legit' suppliers - pretty much everyone only sells the Ho-hsing G60 for around $500inc gst, which isn't exactly cheap considering that's pretty well what I paid for the machines to begin with.

One is a juki DDL8700 - for normal home sewing.

The other is a Bernina 217 that I use for vinyl/leather work.

Any recs on brands? There's more options on eBay but they all look the same and I don't know the kind of wattage etc needed for my use

Vintage machine models - chainstitch

Hi all!

I saw a post recently of someone's gorgeous little Singer 20, and thought it was amazing! I have wanted to do some jersey sewing for sometime but could never get a good result with twin needles on my modern singer HD. And haven't been able to justify the $1500+ price tag of modern cover stitch machines for how much I would use them.

I have now also accumulated a few machines: first machine (singer HD) , overlocker, 2x industrials.

And I thought a cheaper hand cranked chainstitch would be amazing for a quick jeans hemming and maybe some stretch items. But besides the 'toy' singer 20's I've had trouble finding listings on FB that specify what the machine does.... usually something along the lines of 'vintage machine, no longer required'. 'might work, needs service ' 'old toy machine' etc...

Are there any complete lists that specify what models are chainstitch? I know of singer 20, and Willlcox, and saw one singer listed as an 'industrial hemstitch machine' but that's it.

Most people that are selling these machines are selling them off from current or past loved ones and barely include a photo of the serial number, and those that do know what they are, are asking for 10x more regardless of the actual value and condition of the machine.

In store gel nail lamp+polish

My mother buys stuff from NSI so I'll probably go there eventually. But Im not a nail girly and got them for the first time a couple weeks ago and removed them, now they're cooked and I have an event this weekend. I'd rather not go to a salon and would like to buy something in store if I can. Does anywhere sell a very basic lamp and polish?

Thank you!

What's my grainline now?

Mini test done for this style. With a quick possibly silly question, but is my GL still the same as the original piece before cutting and expanding? Per the lines on my example fabric mockup? Is there any exceptions to this if the shape is more extreme?

Drafting pleated and flounce skirts

Looking for tips on how to draft these skirt pieces. I've seen a few for the first image but struggling to find what I want with the second... Most options showing up are for a separate flounce attached to a skirt but I'd like it to be one piece can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you 😊
