Que s’est-il passé?

Salut!

AITA if I take the train instead of the plane on my family trip and planning to hide to my aunt?

Hi people!

So, I (21) am going on a little trip to Toronto (I’m from Quebec) with my family. They want to take the plane, but I’m afraid of it. That’s why I often turn down trips to other countries.

I suggested we take the train because it’s fun, we’ll be sitting across from each other, and we can play card games. Yes, it’s more expensive and takes longer than take the plane, and it’s unfair to the other adults because the train company (Via Rail) offers a discount for people under 25, so I will be the only one to benefit from it.

So I suggested taking the train by myself. The rest of my family is okay with that, even though it’s stupid to spend more money and time on the train, but personally, since I’ve always been treated like a child, I think it’s a good way to be independent in organizing my own transportation and getting to the hotel on my own (if I plan to travel alone after overcoming my fear, I have to learn somewhere, right?).

The problem is my aunt. She told me that if I don’t take the plane, she won’t come. I love my aunt, so I don’t want her to miss the trip. So I’ve planned to lie, with the help of the rest of my family, and say I’ll be late to the airport, but in reality I’ll be on the train. Once she’s seated on the plane, my cousin will tell her the true.

AITA?
