Dizzying But A Fun Power Grind For Weapon Leveling

I 100% it on PS4/5 but I'm really loving the 3D graphics a lot more on this replay on PC having spent most of my mana time on SNES style graphics.

I'm the type who every few weapon orbs has to max out all my weapons and magic levels before progressing the plot. Loved switching up my gameplay trying a different approach to speed up weapon leveling. The main idea is to constantly switch your lead and split the attacks between 2 enemies, so there's no waiting, and by the time you reach an enemy your gauge is usually full or starts full upon switching. I'm not sure how much faster I'm leveling things, but I sure have enjoyed having zero wait time to be in the middle of the action! I'm sure I'll find a happy medium soon. Too dizzying to play any more than one or two weapon level advancements.

What Feature Did You Want More Of?

One of my favorite early post-demo discoveries was realizing there were secret passageways hidden in the world.

I remember finding this one and immediately thinking, “Oh, I can’t wait to see how many more of these are tucked away throughout the game.” Then… there ended up being maybe two others.

It felt like such a cool exploration mechanic that never quite got the chance to become a real feature. I’d love to see Team Asano lean much harder into things like hidden paths, environmental secrets, and discoveries that reward you for poking around in future releases.

What’s something in The Adventures of Elliot that you really wanted to love, but just needed a little more development or tweaking to become one of your favorite features?

Which of the eight elementals is your favorite? Which version? And/or why?

From left to right, top to bottom: Secret of Mana (SNES,) Trials of Mana (JPN,) Visions of Mana, and Legend of Mana.

On to Final Fantasy III

I am working my way through the series and am loving it. I got through 1 no problem, had to go back to some earlier saves for 2 for a couple of trophies. Any recommendations before I start 3 blind to avoid backtracking? Thanks in advance for avoiding spoilers!

Now On Every Personal Device

New game! I have save game files on my PS4, PS5 and PC for the remake. Also, I’ve got the OG on my Wii, Nintendo Switch, iPhone, googleTV box, and now on my Android Lenovo tablet. Some games just deserve to be accessible everywhere.

Expert Difficulty Recommendations

That’s another wrap on the end boss! I’ve started my new game plus and want to see how far I can get on Expert without changing difficulties along the way. But even in my first playthrough I had to switch to easy or normal for bosses like the >!black rabbite!<, elemental trials challenges and the final boss. Has anyone here beat the game on expert? And if so, did you even enjoy it? But mostly I guess I’m looking for gameplay tips for bosses. Regular adds/mobs won’t seem to be a problem.

Max stats and secret passage ways

Man I love this game. Of course I immediately went about braking the game before advancing any plot points maximizing heath, fist attacks, magic and a few diversified spells and exploring every territory’s I’m not supposed to be able to reach yet. This game is very rewarding that way. There’s just something about completely trivializing the intended game play of a game that is so much fun to me! So although this might not be favorited by many, it’s definitely my favorite of the first two.

Anyway, I played through it blind and beat it but quickly noticed after looking a few things up that I was missing a couple of things preventing me from getting the platinum. >!the keyword “dragoon” and missed some kind of dialog trigger that would open up Paul’s secret stash of chests Uhg!!<

So, thankfully, being a long time RPGer and having saved at each party character swap, I loaded up my save from about Kashua Keep and am enjoying running around with encounters off and I forgot just how many secret passage ways there are. Pictured here is shortly after that, circling back through the Dreadnought puzzling over why I could open the princesses cell but this one is seemingly inaccessible holding the last chest. I love that about old games like this. Just enough to scratch your head and hint that it’s time to start some wall-hugging!

If you beat it on easy…

Edit: to clarify, this has less to do with the very hard medal and NG+, and more to do with a cut scene I never triggered on my first go around during the final boss fight. The very hard medal and NG+ are not required for the scene but it’s part of why I triggered an additional scene. Nothing against anyone who got it on other difficulties I’m just excited I got something more out of playing more.

If you beat it on easy You likely never (edit: you may not have) needed to revive on the final boss and thus never (edit: triggered an extra cut scene.) got the best-best ending. There is only one true ending in my book and I didn’t get on my first true ending go around. Go play NG+ and push for the 4th medal. If I can do it, anyone can. I’m honestly not great at video games.

Btw has anyone here beat the game on very hard without needing to revive? My hat is off to you. I didn’t use a single revive until the final battle and forgot to restock on bombs before so it took me two attempts.

This Key Item Is Missable!?

(Edit PSA: The diving manual is not missable, I’m just an occasional idiot with tunnel vision and a slightly distorted memory between ages 😅)

I was enjoying speed running my NG+ on very hard when I discovered that if you wait until the 4th age when things change in the water ruins, in the age of reconstruction to gain access to the Leytstaff, things also change in the age of safekeeping. Namely, you cannot trigger the boss anymore that gives you the diving manuscript. I had not even realized that it does not carry over as a NG+ item until I went to grab the Leytstaff and couldn't dive. Unfortunately, this is going to lock me out of getting a save game file with all 4 medals, for obvious reasons.

Anyone experience success with obtaining the diving manuscript AFTER opening the 4th age? Is this possibly a bug only found on NG+? Or have others experienced difficulty returning for it in the end-game?

Pacifist Run

Hey, looking to pick yer brains for a “pacifist build.” I’ve started my new game plus on very hard and the main idea is that I can’t press square or triangle, (can’t use my primary weapons.) It’s been kind of fun hucking explosive weeds and barrels when they’re available. I’ve got block and parry damage stacked so I’m flying through these early missions.

But clearly, I’m gunna reach a point where I’ll need to use my weapons, so what do you all think should be the primary restrictions of weapon use when needed? Passive use only. No sickle blade contact but fireballs are ok. No contact with the sword’s blade but the flying slashes are ok. No ammo used for bow but seeking missiles per charge are ok? Send me your thoughts on a community decided set of rules for a pacifist run.

Right now I’m thinking no weapons through bad ending, except for on bosses, and then only passive perk use?

u/Crenk85 — 1 month ago

Wish me luck! Also NG+ Details

I'm not sure how far I'll get, but I can't get enough of this game, so "Let's do this!"

I've also included in-game screenshots of how the game presents new game plus and how it compares to what I see in my inventory upon loading in after completing the true ending.

Beastmen Macroevolution Speculative Fan Theory

Anyone else ever wonder about the fish, slug, and bird’s glowing eyes?

I don’t have anything solid to base this on other than speculation and what I know about the irl.

A random npc says all life began in the marsh which got me thinking about the different beastmen tribes. In microevolution, it’s all little changes inside the same population over a few generations, but macron suggests evolution further up the taxonomy chain.

If life started with Frauki in the marsh with fish and amphibians, Macroevolution makes sense to why the slugs (invertebrates) may have also crawled out of the marsh and became land creature, also have glowing eyes. This we witness the creation of the beginnings of the Bridd tribe. Then the slug evolves into a bird with wings or the flying slugs. And then from the flying slug to the chicken. Officially known in the game as the Bridd.

From there the evolution may have given birth to the eleggs (elemental egg tribe, though there’s no the info to support which tribe these belong to in just assuming Bridd as we see life drops come from breaking eggs, and there are all sorts of weird egg looking things in the forest. So what hatched from there idk.

A line of placental mammals, there may be an extinct line of monotremes or marsupials which could bridge the gap between egg born beastmen and placental born beastmen. The Ratho, perhaps to domesticated cats. Cats to Ulfr? Or another branch from cats to Myu. And from Myu to Human.

I have no direction for where the Elpand came from other than maybe some weird mutation branches off from eleggs.

Has anyone encountered any other dialog or manuscripts that help support any other parts of this evolution theory?

From fish to slugs to birds is clear from the glowing eyes, but the rest is more fragmented speculation than a solid theory.

Low-Backtracking Exploration Guide (Spoiler-lite)

TL;DR: A spoiler-lite guide for getting as many major exploration rewards as early as possible with minimal backtracking. Progress the story until each new age or ability opens up, pause to explore for major rewards, keep an eye on sweat-icon side quests, and do your big mop-up after the cave boss/final exploration hint.

- -

After backtracking several times through each age, I wanted to create a spoiler-lite exploration guide that, looking back, might have helped me min-max my gains per plot progression without having to worry so much about backtracking.

I haven’t finished the story yet so I appreciate how everyone here has worked to preserve that for the community. It seems impossible to cleanly do that in a guide like this, but I’ll make it as spoiler-free as possible. For context (breadth spoier) this guide will help you access: || >!all life drops, weapons (and upgrades,) all fairy abilities (and upgrades,) and all accessory slots!<|| via notated story progression and exploration.

“Start!”

Unless you want to 110% the game without doing new game plus, just pick whatever option appeals to you the most. The difficulty descriptions are accurate.

The Age of Safekeeping

Follow the plot naturally.

·       Check the items store.

·       Complete side quests as some at this point will unlock primary resources.

o   Note: Regularly start checking side quests for a sweat icon. You can delay most side quests if you prefer and the sweat icon shows up when it is about to become permanently missable, but you have to manually keep an eye on them.

Continue the story until you unlock the…

Age of R___

Follow the plot until an NPC invites you explore the connection between pyrotechnics and beastmen. ;)

·       Optional exploration for map orientation.

Follow the plot until you meet a new charming companion and thier first ability is unlocked.

Return to the city in this age before advancing the plot. (You’ll understand why >!after a cutscene. This has saved many a lot of time.)!<

·       Optional exploration for goods.

o   Hint 1: Pick an age and explore somewhere marshy and somewhere dry for two key discoveries. No need to go south of the marsh. (You’ll know which age has what respectively when you find them. They are both significant.)

o   Hint 2: As an added bonus explore somewhere newly accessible that involves not just water but swimming. Which age will be the luck of the draw.

o   Hint 3: Look for a new type of temple. >!(Non-life drop, Non-fairy)!<

Continue the story until…

The Age of M___

Follow the plot until a myriad of adorable creature icons start showing up on the world map.

·       Optional exploration for buffing.

o   Note: This is what most players might consider the sweet spot for an early mass exploration exodus, minus one region. This may require some backtracking, but if you encounter another undeniably inaccessible area, I’d recommend you advance the story.

o   Hint: at minimum explore until you find a new >!companion abilit!<y.

Progress the story until…

The Age of B___

Follow the plot until you track someone’s footprints into a cave.

·       Note: If under-leveled, there is plenty of exploration you can do.

After fighting this boss, talk to some NPCs in one of the ages for one last exploration tip which serves to clear the remaining exploration blocks.

After exploring that location is the optimal time to mop up anything you haven’t collected yet. The only blocks remaining at this point appear to all be story-based.

Hope this helps! Enjoy the story and remaining side quests from here. Happy adventuring!

Low-Backtracking Exploration Guide Per Age (Spoiler free)

Edit(Spoiler-lite)

TL;DR: Follow the story through Safekeeping, >!Reconstruction, Magic, and Budding!<. Check shops, weapon side quests, and sweat-icon quests as you go. Once cats show up in >!Magic!<, that’s the best early exploration window. After the dragon pillar cave boss in >!Budding!<, one last NPC hint opens the path to mop up almost everything.

I wanted to create a spoiler free exploration guide that, looking back, could have helped me min-max my gains per plot point, without having to worry too much about backtracking.

I haven’t finished the story yet, but I have I have obtained an insane amount of exploration-based perks for what feels like as early as possible.  (>!all life drop shards, fairy abilities and upgrades, accessory slots, and the best version of every weapon!<)

“Start!”

Unless you want to 110% the game without doing new game plus, just pick whatever option appeals to you best. The difficulty descriptions are quite accurate.

The Age of >!Safekeeping!<

Advance the plot naturally.

Check the items store.

Complete side quests that unlock weapons.

Side quest note: Regularly start checking side quests for a sweat icon*. You can delay most side quests if you prefer and the sweat icon shows up when it is about to become permanently missable, but you must keep an eye out for the icon if you are saving them for later.*

Continue the story until you unlock the…

Age of >!Reconstruction!<

Follow the plot until a certain store owner invites to you explore the connection between pyrotechnics and beastmen. ;)

Optional exploration and map orientation.

Progress the story until you meet a charming new companion

Visit the town in this age before progressing the story back to the present.

Optional exploration and map orientation.

Without spoiling which age, check both water ruins.

This is a good time to explore one of the lotus caves and hunt for a fairy shrine in each age.

Avoid too much exploring to minimize later backtracking.

Progress the story until…

The Age of >!Magic!<

Follow the plot until cats show up on the map.

Optional exploration for buffing and one more fairy shrine.
Note: This is what most players might call sweet spot to for an early mass exploration exodus, minus the >!volcanic region!<. There will be some backtracking needed but they are easy to zip back to later and few enough to remember clearly.

Progress the story until…

The Age of >!Budding!<

Follow the plot until you track someone’s footprints into the dragon pillar cave.
Note: If under-leveled, there is plenty of exploring you can do, if you have not already.

After fighting this boss, talk to some NPCs in one of the ages for one last exploration tip which serves to clear the remaining exploration blocks.

After exploring that location, is the optimal time to mop up anything you haven’t collected yet. The only blocks remaining at this point are all story based.

Hope this helps! Enjoy the story and remaining side quests from there. Happy adventuring!

Made a 48x48 pixel sprite today

Pixel art has always been a passing interest of mine. I’ve done import edits before but never from scratch with a fixed color pallet so it was a fun little project.

I’m including the grid for anyone who dabbles in perler/fuse beads, cross-stitch, crochet, LEGO mosaics, Minecraft block art, knitting colorwork, or diamond painting.

Bombs work too but this prologue wall-bug cheese was extremely satisfying.

Anyone else experienced the satisfaction of throwing a bomb over the wall at these slugs? I didn’t even realize you could until coming across a certain cracked wall flush with a gap.

I’m a little sad that Heuria didn’t say anything. Though, she has recently acknowledged that I am “very strong.” 🩸 Pre-prologue-finish, full version only.

*The wall-bug reference is not about things being able to go over the wall but about using the brazier wall glitch trick as a generous early advantage.
