I'm currently discovering Suikoden through the Remaster collection that includes both 1 and 2. I'm about 4 hours into the first game, and I'd like to know what the most "efficient" way to approach it is.
The reason I'm asking is that I'm already recruiting a lot of characters, and I'm wondering how I'm supposed to manage all of them.
How do you usually play with such a huge roster? Do you stick to a small core team of, say, around 10 characters and rotate them occasionally? Or do you even keep the same 6 characters for the entire adventure (if that's possible)?
If I focus on a limited team, will I miss out on anything? Is it better to use as many different characters as possible? On the other hand, if I try to keep everyone up to date, I imagine buying equipment, runes, and even leveling them up, for all of them could become a real headache.
Besides that, I'd love to hear any general tips you have, whether it's about useful items, character optimization, or anything else that would help a first-time player that got his ass kicked by the Zombie Dragon in the castle ahah.

Lately there's been a lot of buzz about Sony wanting to kill physical discs, but Sony isn't just killing physical discs.
They announced that it will be shutting down the PS Store for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. It will start in some countries this year, then roll out globally in early 2027.
If you still have a PlayStation 3 and you're a huge fan of the Suikoden series, you might want to consider buying the digital versions, just in case you want to play them later or perhaps just for your collection, because there are 4 Suikoden games.
