Am I a good programmer?

Okayyyy. So, I really need to vent, and I need a bit of an advice.

I started coding when I was 13, or maybe scripting since it was just SA:MP (San Andreas Multiplayer) roleplay servers. We hit 50 players a day back then when SA:MP was still peak. Then I picked up JavaScript in college randomly.

Honesly? Ang yabang ko dati, ang taas ng tingin ko sa sarili ko. I could build projects fast with no AI assistance ( and even hated AI as it was really bad at even basic coding back then ). I built a custom-made internal management system for an optical clinic with multiple branches. I even went down the blockchain rabbit hole, then built a decentralized coding system even before sinuggest ni Bam Aquino yung blockchain systems.

Then came thesis season where I really used AI. I learned how to prompt well, plan properly, and even built some skills/plugins for that one project in thesis. I thought I was really fkin good.

Then I applied for a job. Got the technical assessment. AND GOT HUMBLED FAST. Akala ko I'm HIM.

I'm so bad at DSA. Like, hindi ko alam yung built-in Math functions ng JS until I reviewed. Out of 10 questions on that assessment, I solved ONLY ONE! That's it. Even took me the whole 2 hours. Partida yun pa yung pinakamadali na nakita ko, I scanned through every questions.

So now I'm back to basic, learning Rust, DSA, and system design. I plan to create a project without frameworks, libraries, and AI as long as I can.

Genuine question for people who've experienced this: Am I doing it right na? or mali pa din? The reason why I am learning Rust because it seems I can understand it well, especially the ownership and borrowing. Would love to hear your opinions about this.

[0 YoE] I keep getting interviews, but no job offers. Can someone review my resume?

Hi everyone.

I'm a fresh BSCS graduate from Philippines and I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong in my job search. I'm looking for Web Development and Software Engineering roles.

For the past month, I've been applying to almost every entry-level role related to Computer Science or IT. I've also applied to office jobs such as Data Encoder and other administrative positions whenever I met the minimum qualifications. I am open to local and remote roles, but relocation may be negotiable.

On average, I've been sending around 50 applications a day across different job platforms. Some companies were listed on multiple platforms, so I've likely submitted well over a thousand applications by now.

I've had several interviews and passed a few assessments, but none have resulted in a job offer. The most common feedback is that they're looking for someone with experience.

Instead of blaming the job market, I want to improve what I can control. I think the first thing I should work on is my resume.

For those working in HR, recruitment, software engineering, or IT:

  • What are the biggest mistakes you commonly see in fresh graduate resumes?
  • What makes you immediately reject or shortlist a candidate?
  • Are there sections that are often unnecessary or missing?
  • If you were hiring an entry-level developer, what would you expect to see on a resume?

I'm open to honest criticism. If needed, I can post an anonymized version of my resume in the comments for feedback.

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Used AI to help me write this was the prompt:

"To HRs, Software Engineering, IT kuyas/ates out there. It's been a month since I've been applying to roles related to BSCS/IT roles that I can apply to, I even applied for Data Encoding and everything office roles. I've submitted at least 50 resumes per day on different job platforms wherein some are the same companies. I did have some interviews, passed assessments but never got job offers. Always getting rejected as I lack experience or they are looking for someone with an experience. I'm trying to find the issues/incorrect methods, workflow or things I've done while applying. So I'll be starting with improving my resume first. Give me tips."

Democracy: Slaves choosing their masters

Are y'all really choosing leaders for the benefit of the People? Or are you choosing masters to bow down to?

Look what you've all done, the Philippines became a political circus. Magnifico! Are you still not mad? The promise of Unity(UniTeam) is tearing itself inside as we watch the Marcos and Duterte Factions turning the Philippines into a political civil war, NOT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE(US), but for absolute control. Do you all still not hate the political culture the Philippines have for so many years? Does loyalty matters more than accountability? We pay taxes to these clowns? There was once a rally, turned RIOT. Are you all still blind? We are carrying the cost of voting these clowns.

PAANO NAMAN TAYO?

Why do you all not ask yourself that when voting? Are you all not raised to THINK? The elections became a GAME OF THRONES, whoever sits holds money and power. Democracy should've been, "whoever sits serves the people." This is just fucked up. Inflation is at 7.2%. The cost of every commodity and necessities are bleeding us dry while wages are not adjusted to our comfort but stagnant because those in the thrones pockets all of the people's money.

TANGINA!

There was a disaster in Mindanao... What was the priority of the ones who is seated at the Thrones that serves the People? POWER. Nobody cared about the cries of the people seeking help, nobody cared about the ones buried underground in that hall of thrones. If someone said they cared, DID THEY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT? IS IT REALLY RELIEF OR A CAMPAIGN OF "I DID THIS VOTE ME AGAIN"?

We are told that DEMOCRACY is the ultimate freedom of the people and that votes are our voices being heard but are we really heard? Did they hear our pleas for a better country? Are they really serving us or serving themselves as they want to hold on to that power?

Is democracy really worth it? When the ballot only offers different branches of the same clan, dynastic oligarchs, or family? We are now just slaves choosing our next master. We are now forced to choose which political heir gets to tax us and bleed us dry, ignore us, and use our own money to fund their political power struggles/war.

I'm a college student, not even a university. Do you imagine how I find the current job market depressing? As I look into those workers trying to SURVIVE through their devalued improperly compensated paychecks... I see that the system isn't broken, they just designed it that way. It works FOR THEM!

We cannot just sit back and wait for 2028 to cast another hollow vote. Sympathy isn't enough anymore. Outrage in the comment sections isn't enough. We need to organize, demand absolute accountability, and stop participating in their rigged game as willing subjects. It’s time to move. It’s time to stop begging our masters for crumbs and start dismantling the table.

WE ARE STILL COLONIZED IN OUR OWN COUNTRY. A SLAVE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY.

Normalize maging balimbing sa politics para sa Pilipinas.

Can we just normalize pagiging balimbing in terms of politics? Sa mga may kulay d'yan, instead of being colored, why not be Philippine-colored? Bakit hindi natin magawang magmulat ng mata na pinaglalaruan tayo ng mga nakaupong politiko? The executive, legislative, and judicial systems in the Philippines are all deeply corrupted that you can't strive in it kapag hindi ka nagpakain sa sistema ng corruption.

We are not Tagalog, Bisaya, Iloko, Ilokano, Kapampangan, o ano pa, kundi tayo ay Filipino.

PILIPINAS, KELAN KA MAGIGISING?
