Getting hired with DUI on my driving record
I’m going to get my CDL and I’m wondering if my DUI from October 2020 will affect me getting hired. Planning on signing the books (1245 and 125) when I get my CDL and other certs.

I use to be able to run a 10K at a 9:30/mi pace, then I got covid 2021 😭
EDIT: I actually have the afternoon shift, which start times showed 3-5pm
I got off the phone with the recruiter who told me orientation will be from sept 14-16 starting at 2pm. I accepted my offer for the evening shift position which I am 99% sure it said start times from 3-5pm. I understand that this is orientation and it may just be scheduled differently, but I’m concerned about the actual start time of my shifts because I have a day job that ends around 2:30-3 (I work remotely so this can be a little flexible).
PH’s who work the evening shift, what is your average shift start times?
Specifically the NE Columbia blvd location
I’m at a point in my career where I’m seriously considering becoming a lineman. After I graduated high school in 2016 I went straight into doing tree work. Started as a groundman, then apprentice climber, then climber. I even moved over to the line clearance division, trimming and removing trees near powerlines and facilities.
I was dead set on becoming a lineman. I worked alongside them during storm season when I lived in California. A friend of mine from high schools dad was a troubleman at PG&E and he was encouraging me to apply for entry level positions.
It was damn near impossible to get an interview with PG&E so I kind of gave up on it. I couldn’t afford lineman school at NLC, and the pre apprenticeship program at PG&E is insanely competitive.
I ended up in utility forestry for a PG&E contractor while also working at a golf course. I met another troubleman that was a member at the golf course and he said he would put in a good word with his supervisor because they were hiring ELAs soon. A week later I fucked up big time and got a dui (October 2020). So that opportunity went down the drain.
I taught myself how to write code and landed a job as a software developer which is what I’m doing now. My company is based out of the Midwest so I don’t make a ton of money. Software dev was fun at first but now that AI is writing code, it’s not as fulfilling anymore.
Portland General Electric is hiring pre apprentices at the moment and I’m considering applying. The application deadline is in a few days and I need to take a math placement test. I also don’t have my CDL so I would need to start the process of getting my permit.
I understand this field is super competitive, and a lot of people graduate lineman school and remain jobless for a good while.
A few questions:
Is it necessary to go to a lineman school? Even if I have experience as a tree climber and telecom groundman?
Is this gap in experience too long to be considered for the pre apprenticeship?
How hard is it to land an entry level position at a utility company if you don’t get into the pre apprenticeship program?

I did 12-3-30 on the treadmill at around 8:30pm last night. Other than that it was a pretty normal evening/routine into bedtime.
I posted here a couple weeks ago about my dad, who is 50 and was newly diagnosed with prostate cancer. I really appreciated all of the responses and advice I received, so I wanted to post an update now that we have his PSMA PET results.
We confirmed that his biopsy was Gleason 5+4=9, Grade Group 5. His PSA was around 12 when this process started.
His PSMA PET showed cancer in the prostate as expected, along with uptake in two external iliac lymph nodes, one on each side of the pelvis. The nodes are pretty small (roughly 4x8 mm and 10x6 mm). The good news is that the scan showed no evidence of spread to his bones, distant lymph nodes, lungs, or other organs. His previous MRI also hadn’t shown enlarged lymph nodes.
He met with his urologist today. The plan right now is to start Lupron as soon as insurance approves it. He’s also being referred to both medical oncology and radiation oncology.
The urologist does not recommend surgery because the cancer has already reached the pelvic lymph nodes. He also explained that brachytherapy/seeds wouldn’t make sense because they would only treat the prostate.
Where I have more questions is radiation. His urologist said some radiation oncologists may consider treating the prostate and a wider pelvic area, but he doesn’t consider radiation curative now that the cancer is in the lymph nodes. He described this more as something that will require long-term/lifelong management with hormonal/systemic therapies. He expects medical oncology will probably add another medication on top of Lupron. He said chemotherapy isn’t indicated at this point.
We’re trying very hard to get him a second opinion at UCSF or Stanford, especially because he’s only 50.
I’ve been reading about men with Gleason 9/N1 disease who received very aggressive multimodal treatment — sometimes surgery followed by radiation and ADT, and others who received pelvic/prostate radiation plus ADT and something like abiraterone/Xytiga.
So I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in a similar situation:
Gleason 9 / Grade Group 5, pelvic lymph-node involvement, but no distant or bone metastases.
What treatment did your doctors recommend?
Were you treated with curative intent despite the positive pelvic lymph nodes?
Did you receive radiation to both the prostate and pelvic lymph nodes?
Did you have surgery despite being N1, or was surgery ruled out?
Were you put on ADT alone initially, or ADT plus something like Xytiga/abiraterone?
If you went to a major prostate cancer center, did their recommendation differ from what your original urologist recommended?
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who was diagnosed relatively young and has been living with this for several years.
We’re obviously going to follow his doctors’ advice rather than Reddit, but hearing people’s experiences here has been incredibly helpful in figuring out what questions we should be asking and what options we should make sure are considered.
Anyone else? 😭😭😭
My dad who is 50, was diagnosed a few days ago with a Gleason score of 9. PSA 12 (as of 6 months ago). He’s scheduled to get a PET scan some point this month. Currently trying to figure out where he can get the scan because his insurance is HMO which can make things a little more complicated. He has Blue Cross.
He lives in California. What is the likelihood of getting a referral to Stanford or UCSF? Sutter health is saying they don’t take his insurance so they won’t schedule a scan, even though he got his MRI there.
Lots of unknowns at the moment which fuels my worry. What’s the likelihood that it’s spread? What are treatment options if it’s localized to his prostate, or if it’s spread to bones or lymph nodes? Any successful gleason 9’s out there who have beaten this?
“Brain fog” is too generic to describe this. I want to call it derealization, but anxiety meds don’t relieve it at all. Not even benzos. I don’t have memory issues, but it feels like I’m developing dementia if that even makes sense.
The vision issues are also diabolical. Floaters, visual snow, etc. My vision isn’t blurry, but it feels like I can’t focus on what I’m looking at. It doesn’t register in my brain at all. It feels like I’m losing my mind. I’m always on the verge of a panic attack because of this. It also feels like I’m always on the verge of a seizure, although I’ve never had one.
Are we just cooked? What has helped you with your symptoms?
Hi everyone, this post is for my wife (31F). We’re having a hard time getting a referral for a hematologist because her blood labs are relatively normal.
Her symptoms include:
Significant weight loss (140lbs to 110lbs)
Night sweats/chills
Unexplained bruising on legs/buttocks (we counted 50 the other day)
Frequent headaches
Deep bone pain in legs and arms
Chronic fatigue
No appetite
Overall feeling weak all of the time
Thoughts? This is a frustrating time for us. We live in Portland Oregon for context.
