Would you use a platform to meet people before your cruise?

Founders, I’m curious about something.

Why is it still so hard to meet people before a cruise?

Every cruise has thousands of people going to the same destination, staying on the same ship, doing the same activities — but most people only start talking after boarding. By then, everyone already has their groups, plans, and routines.

Facebook groups feel outdated, and most cruise apps focus more on booking than actually connecting people.

I’ve been working on an idea centered around helping cruisers meet before the trip starts — whether that’s finding people your age, making friends, joining excursion groups, or just not boarding alone.

For people who cruise often:

  • Would you actually use something like this?
  • What would make you trust it?
  • What’s the biggest problem with meeting people on cruises today?

Would genuinely love honest feedback.

One thing I didn’t expect about long-term travel was how socially exhausting it can get

I used to think constant travel would automatically mean constantly meeting interesting people. In reality, a lot of connections while traveling feel temporary, surface-level, or disappear after a few days.

What surprised me most is that loneliness while traveling doesn’t usually come from being physically alone. It comes from constantly restarting socially in new places.

You meet people, have great conversations, then everyone leaves for another city, another country, another schedule.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about how hard it is to build actual continuity while traveling, especially for solo travelers and people moving around frequently.

Curious if other nomads feel this too, or if you eventually get used to the cycle.

I built Seaya because solo cruising felt way more isolating than people admit

I started building Seaya after noticing that a lot of solo travelers feel awkward before cruises, even though cruises are supposed to be social. Most people want to meet others before boarding, but existing cruise groups often feel inactive, spammy, or uncomfortable.

What surprised me is that people usually aren’t looking for “networking.” They just want a few familiar faces before the trip starts.

Building around that emotional side of travel has been way more interesting than I expected, and it completely changed how I think about social apps.

Building a social app for cruise travelers taught me something unexpected

I’ve been building a small app called Seaya for people going on cruises, especially solo travellers, and honestly the most surprising part hasn’t been the tech side.

It’s how many people quietly feel lonely before a trip.

I used to think cruises were automatically social because you’re surrounded by thousands of people. But after talking to users, I realized a lot of people spend weeks before a cruise wondering whether they’ll fit in, whether they’ll end up alone at dinner, or whether everyone else already has a group.

What surprised me even more is that most people don’t actually want “networking.” They just want a few familiar faces before boarding.

That changed how I think about building social products completely. Features matter, but reducing awkwardness matters more.

Still early, but it’s been interesting building something around real-world connection instead of endless scrolling. Curious if anyone else here has built apps where human behaviour turned out to be very different from what you expected.

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve been working on an idea and built an app around it.

When you go on a cruise, you usually board without knowing anyone — which can feel a bit awkward at first.

So I made something that lets you:
• See who’s on your exact cruise (same ship + dates)
• Connect before the trip starts
• Chat and plan things ahead of time

The goal is to make it easier to actually enjoy the social side from day one.

I’m trying to figure out if this is genuinely useful or just a niche idea.

Would you personally use something like this before a trip?

I’ve been working on an app called Seaya — it helps people connect with others going on the same cruise before the trip starts.

I launched recently but I’m barely getting any downloads, and I’m not sure if the issue is my store page or just the niche itself.

Would really appreciate some honest feedback on:

  • my app name
  • screenshots
  • description
  • keywords (if anything looks off)

I feel like the idea makes sense, but clearly something isn’t clicking on the discovery side.

Happy to share the link if anyone wants to take a look.

I’ve been messing around with an idea and wanted to get some honest opinions.

It’s basically an app where people going on the same cruise can see each other and connect before the trip starts.

The thought came from seeing how random it is to meet people once you’re already on the ship. Some people are super social, others aren’t, and it can be hit or miss.

I figured it might be easier if you could just know a few people beforehand instead of starting from zero.

Right now it’s pretty simple — you can find your cruise, see who else is going, and chat a bit.

I genuinely don’t know if this is something people would actually use or if it’s one of those ideas that sounds better in theory.

Curious what people think:

  • Would you use something like this?
  • Or would you rather just meet people onboard?

Happy to share the link if anyone wants to try it.
