Sister Advice: Bodycare edition

Hello hello 👋🏻

I’m trying something new by making a series of these posts, so that it helps whoever needs it (because I wish I had myself with my current knowledge back when I was a teenager 🥹)

Story time:

I’ve been on accutane on and off over the last decade, due to severe acne vulgaris on my face, and body acne on my chest, upper arms, and back.

Now it was ok before, when I was younger because I would cover up and it’ll be fine, plus being normal weight meant minimal skin friction, darkening and rubbing (I was also a huge swimmer so that helped a little bit).

The last couple of months, I realized that my body and face acne had gotten pretty bad, so I went to a dermatologist and restarted accutane (NOTE: ONLY DO THIS UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION 🩺)

The acne came down, but at one point I was left with marks across my upper back, chest (especially the cleavage area) and my upper arms.

Now usually I would use a salicylic acid toner and cleanser, but my friend suggested I use this Dove ka body lotion (even tone one, see in picture) and I’ll say this: it helped 🙂‍↕️

It’s actually helped me reduce and lighten up the scars, and also made my elbow and legs less dark looking (I tried scrubbing with a pumice stone at one point to reduce it 🥲🥲🥲)

So just throwing it out here if any of y’all are having these issues.

Pro tip: since it has retinol and vitamin C, use it at night. It helped a lot more + use sunscreen during the day (retinol makes skin more susceptible to sun damage. Ask me how I know 🙃🙂)

For reference, here’s my skin type:

Wheatish fair, olive neutral leaning cool undertone (both purple blue and green veins), prone to sunburns, cannot tan much, prone to hyperpigmentation and easy bruising

Let me know if you guys have any more suggestions like these! I’ll try/add them too in the future posts (I’m trying to also practice getting more comfortable online and sharing my experiences, so feedback on this potential series is welcome too 🫶🏻)

Guess who spent again on Laneige? (Me 💅🏻)

Reference to previous post here

Anyways fellas, I bought more since retail therapy is fast becoming my only joy in life 🛍️

I’ve added the product, swatches and what it looked like on my lip after overnight application!

Verdict:

Blueberry Jelly: Surprisingly a lovely purplish pink colour that makes my lips pop a little! It’s toned down so it doesn’t really show up screaming, which I like 🍓🫐

Cinnamon sugar: Beautiful, beautiful nude pink colour 🫶🏻 I’m going to line my lips in the future and wear it. It gives a very soft pink color to my lips, and makes it look natural and nice! Also fits really well with my skin tone and blends in (perfect for a simple no makeup look if I ever try it) 💄

K-pop Pink: To be honest, I bought it since it was the closest to electro berry. The colour tint is surprisingly not that bright (especially if you’re wearing any makeup or blush to balance) and it leaves a nice light pink tint once it’s worn off 👄

I’m still figuring out how to tint effectively with it because this would be my first time with oil-based tints (I usually prefer water or jelly tints)

I’ve also ordered DJ Plum, which looked really nice and pink-purple too when I tried it out in store! Will swatch once it’s here hehe.

Overall scoring:

Blueberry Jam: 5/5
Cinnamon Sugar: 4.5/5
K-pop Juice box: 4.5/5 (especially once the tint has worn off)

Let me know if you have any questions 👋🏻

P.S: Please someone convince me to stop buying Laneige and random stuff from Myntra. My self control is going down the drain (with my bank balance)

Ask me about Laneige lippies, and I shall provide answer (because I love spending money)

Was suggested Laneige by a friend of mine to keep my lips moisturized during the winter. Got a bit too obsessed and now I think I splurge half my income on just Laneige lip products 💸

I now want to use my powers of Laneige for good 😎🤓

If anyone has any questions about all the Laneige lip products (and the bouncy and firm skin cream, hyaluronic water gel skin cream) let me know! I’ll try answering it as truthfully as possible.

(I know, I got greedy during sales 🙂‍↕️ + free gift!)

P.S: I am currently on accutret for acne, which means lip balms and Vaseline are my besties for lips and nails (I tried boroline but I broke out and my lips darkened when I used it). I’ll also be happy to share my skincare routine, but please remember that it varies from person to person, and most of my stuff is derm recommendations!

Also if you are having really bad acne, please go to a dermatologist ASAP. It pays off so much in the long run (I went from acne vulgaris to mildly scarred skin)

In picture:

Laneige Glowy Lip Balm (Gummy Bear, Vanilla, Bubblegum), Glaze Craze (Strawberry Sprinkles, Raspberry Jam), Lip Mask (Bubblegum) Bouncy and firm lip treatment (not a fave of mine but great for longer outdoor wear!)

Not in picture:

Glaze Craze: Maple Glaze

Gush Lip Butter Play Pot- Review

Hello!

First time poster, long time lurker here 👀

I tried out the gush lip play pot (Juicy Plum) because it looked pretty cool and I am easy to manipulate, and here’s my reviews on it:

Pros:

  1. Smooth consistency 🧈: I was amazed by how smooth it is, closer to a solidified lip oil than a balm. Application was also smooth (my lips are heavily chapped so it felt patchy at first but then glides on well). I also really liked the soft texture, and it feels pretty lightweight once you put it on!

  2. Good pigment Color 🖍️: The colour is vibrant! A little goes a long way, and it spread evenly and looks good (image for reference). I did get stuck with the shades, as I am a neutral cool toned light brown girl, so this was the only one that actually looked good on me (the brown ones looked off sadly 🥲)

  3. Cute packaging 📦: I really like how the packaging looks! It’s cute and small, comfortably fits in my hand. The applicator also makes it hygienic (though ensure you wipe the applicator after every use) and easy to use, compared to dipping my fingers in (Vaseline my beloved, take some notes)

Cons:

  1. Drying 🌵: As I said, I have chapped lips. While initially it felt moisturizing, after two hours my lips felt dry. I had to reapply my other lip balm (Laneige) to combat it, which kind of defeats the purpose of calling this a coloured lip balm?

  2. Short wear life ⏲️: The colour wore off after 2 hours. I didn’t eat anything or use my lips on any surface, didn’t lick anything away, but the colour was barely there after hour 2. It made me sad, and I realized I’d have to carry it with me to reapply frequently 😭

  3. Expensive 💸: It’s so expensive! I paid ₹699 (Amazon prime day sale) for 4gm (₹174.75 per gram of product) which is pretty pricey for anyone, and I can probably use it for going to office but again, the wear time is so low 🥲👌🏻 There’s definitely cheaper alternatives for this on the market (I am open to suggestions)

My overall verdict ⚖️:

As a lip balm: 3/10
As a lip colouring balm: 4.5/10
As a short term lip colour with regular reapplication: 9/10
As a wallet lightener: 10/10

Final score: 4/10, may not recommend

Alternatives 💄:

  1. Laneige Lip balms or the glaze craze lip gloss. Same effect, longer stay, significantly more moisturizing
  2. Etude House Lip stain: Really good colours, stays on for longer (not as moisturizing, so please put Vaseline before putting anything else)
  3. Maybelline vinyl long stay: Great colours, a little goes a long time
  4. Maybelline long stay liquid lipstick: I used this for my work (hospitality) for every day. Amazing hold and colour, never wipes off (my lips are still stained 10 years later)

Let me know if anyone else had a different experience!
