Made a music video with $300. How did I do?

I'm still trying to figure out how to shoot good and beautiful music videos as well as how to get bigger budgets/work with bigger bands. So any feedback on what you think I did wrong or could do better would be greatly appreciated!

How do you deal with clients who won't pay?

So I've recently done some editing for a YouTube channel. Now the commission was for 3-days of editing (which I did) however before taking the job I caveated that what they were after was going to be more of a 5-6 day edit. I was very transparent that I couldn't deliver what they wanted in the 3 day booking (They wanted a 20min film from 6 - 7 hour of footage with flash transitions, foley etc.). They said get it to the best of your ability and we'll review and see where it'll go from there.

I did the edit to the best of my ability within the time frame with a decent narrative cut and broll selects and told them (again) that it needed more time to get to a place where it could look more polished with flashier transitions, colour grade, foley etc. They've now come back and said they weren't happy with the edit and are refusing to pay me. Is there anything I can do to get some of the money back?

There was a contract I signed, so Ill be looking into that now but any suggestions you think that can help my situation would be greatly appreciated!

P.S This job was posted to a film chat whatsapp group im in - should I also post about this in the chat to warn any other fellow editors??

Basically, my plan for this year was to get a mortgage/house and then move to freelance. Unfortunately, I got made redundant at the beginning of the year and was forced to go back to Freelance.

Before I got made redundant, I was on £30k salary with a decent deposit to put on a house (which was accepted by the mortgage provider). I did put an offer down on the house and had surveys done but had to pull out due to my job and a couple of red flags which came from the survey reports.

Atm im loving the freelance life but I know it's gonna hinder my chance to get a mortgage for the next few years. I am wondering what the best way to obtain a mortgage and whether to do it asap with another full time job or apply for a mortage in the next 2 years when my accounts are better as a full-time freelancer.

With my current situation, I do have a house but have to sell it due to shared ownership so for the interim I'm having to go back to renting. I do have a decent amount of money saved in my account to go solo along with more cash to surplus this when the sale of my house goes through.

I guess Im wondering what kind of financial advice can you recommend I do for the time being? For the interim, should I max out my ISA? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
