Is personalization actually worth the time in cold outreach?

I'm trying to understand where the balance is between:

Highly personalized outreach

and

High-volume outreach

If you personalize every message heavily, you may only contact 20 prospects a day.

If you automate everything, you may contact 500 but get poor engagement.

Where do experienced SDRs draw the line?

What information is actually worth researching before sending a cold email?

I'd be interested in hearing what has worked in real campaigns.

What's the hardest part of getting your first 10 B2B customers?

For founders who have already gone through this:

What was your biggest challenge?

Finding the right prospects

Getting people to reply

Getting meetings

Converting meetings

Building trust

Finding a repeatable acquisition channel

I'm especially interested in hearing from B2B and SaaS founders.

What worked eventually, and what did you waste time on?

More leads don't necessarily mean more revenue.

I've been learning about B2B lead generation and noticed an interesting distinction between:

Lead quantity

and

Lead quality

Imagine receiving 1,000 leads but only 20 are actually relevant.

Compare that with receiving 100 leads where 60 fit your ICP.

The second list could potentially be much more valuable.

So I'm curious:

What criteria do you use to decide whether a B2B lead is actually qualified?

Company size? Industry? Job title? Budget? Pain point? Buying intent?

What if your lead list is the real reason your cold emails don't work?

I've been learning about B2B prospecting, and one thing seems easy to underestimate: lead quality.

A list can have 500 contacts and still produce almost nothing if:

The companies don't match your ICP

You're contacting the wrong person

The company doesn't have the problem you solve

The timing is completely wrong

I'm curious about experienced SDRs here:

What is the first thing you check before adding a prospect to your outreach list?

Industry? Company size? Job title? Trigger event? Something else?
