2XKO failing has lasting ramifications for the FGC.

So we all know that 2XKO failing was seen from a mile away. From awful branding and advertising to the niche gameplay we all saw this coming. What people may not understand is the lasting ramifications it's failure will forever have on the industry.

So what I am talking about? I (Like a lot of other folks in this sub) happen to be a AAA game dev for many years. The way games get funding is you put together a few materials to pitch to investors/stakeholders. Things like a vertical slice (A small section of finished gameplay to show off) and a pitch deck (A powerpoint presentation going through all of the design, markets, and financials needed for the project.)

Here is the issue. Studios especially AAA ones need a lot of historical data to help dictate what to invest in. We use the data of similar games in similar genres to get that Market viability estimate. This is why after WoW you got dozens of MMOs, Pubg for dozens of BRs, Overwatch for dozens of hero shooters, etc etc etc ad nauseum. Its an incredibly important aspect of market analysis for studios to be successful.

Here's the thing. Big failures are what potential investors point to as examples of a bad market. Now there can be a bad market for a couple of reasons. As an example you can have bad market because the competition is simply too tough. WoW has frankly eaten nearly every MMO that could compete with it to the point only 4 or so can exist. You can also have bad market because there just isnt interest/its too niche see the RTS genre flailing for the past 20 years. Lastly you can have a bad market because of other major world factors. Ergo in a global recession, where pc parts are 3x the cost, and because oil has gone up everything has gone up with it.

This is all to say that Fighting Games may be absolutely cooked both in indie and in AAA/AA.
Now Im not saying were doomed but we're basically stuck with what we have for awhile. The market is somewhat locked. Major failures like 2XKO and Fatal Fury will basically drive away nearly all new investment for a AAA scale title. Not to mention the lackluster staying power for things like Avatar Legends and Invincible VS basically mean the indie/ AA market is also somewhat cooked.

Now we do have some hope in some ways mainly Japan but take that with a grain of salt. We have a couple new niche fighters coming out and thatll really tell us the death knell or not. I know some of the Tekken guys like myself are excited for Harada's thing. However PLEASE take that with a trucks worth of salt. Remember how long it took Kojima to make a new game from scratch and also how while some people liked his new project a lot of older fans didnt. Not to mention how a ton of "BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE GUYS WHO MADE X" games were awful.

This is all to say if things dont turn around were going the way of RTSs. So what can we do? PLAY THE GAMES. BE NICE ABOUT THE GAMES YOU PLAY. GET MORE FOLKS INTO THE GAMES YOU PLAY!

Just got my first Pug!

This is Franny. She is perfect and I love her. Her tongue is too large for her tiny mouth so it just hangs out nearly all day. She is 2 and she is wonderful. ❤️

Just hit GoD3 so Ill answer some questions so the post doesnt get taken down.

Just hit GoD3 on my main Victor. Welp gotta put effort into the post otherwise itll be taken down.

Is there Rank Inflation?
It depends on what you mean. Inflation is used when a currency becomes devalued. In a way the prestige of acquiring certain ranks has been reduced but its significantly more nuanced then just getting a higher rank for free. In S1 we had pro level gatekeepers capped out on rank pushing everyone out of GoD. In S2 we still had that but only because the pro players were functionally capped out at GoD5 because they didnt have enough food to help them push further. In S3 were capped out at around 7 and I think thats actually perfect. There are mechanics that make it easier to keep your but at the end of the day you still have to win more games than you lose.

Why am I hard stuck X rank?
Simply put you dont actually take the game that seriously. I have over 3k games and over 1600 hours on the character. I studied pros and specialists playing the character. I watch the game near daily and Im considered on the lower end of decent when it comes to high level. Improvement comes from exactly where it comes from for anything. Practice, Implementation, evaluation, then adjustment. Its a constantly repeating cycle that everyone high level subconsciously or consciously applies. Now this part is important. It is ok to not be that good at Tekken. Being good at Tekken isnt even worth the hours and work that it takes from an objective perspective. Being good at Tekken was merely the consequence of really enjoying Tekken and competitive Tekken theory. If you dont mesh with that and just hop online and have fun then stick with that. Your rank doesnt make you.

What are some tips to climb?
I don't think people harp on this enough but observational adjustment is the number one skill you require in order to climb. You need to have a complete knowledge base to understand what is going right what is going wrong and how to make it more right. After that you have to be tight. I like to compare Tekken to a Rhythm game like guitar hero where your opponent chooses which notes comedown. Your job is to respond in kind to all of their notes.

God I can't believe you play Victor.
I watched PhiDxs video on how to get out of red ranks and he was playing Victor at the time. I pressed up 1+2 and the rest was history let the hate come if it may. I will say Victor is significantly weaker since the last patch. I don't miss it though that move was too oppressive. Anyways yep he's my guy.

Conclusion
Tekken is by far my favorite game of all time. Ive sunk more hours into learning it than any other game. Ive played in awesome tournaments met a really cool (and sometimes awful) community and its been a genuinely amazing experience to feel decent at a video game. I love this game.

Could I build and sell controllers as a side hustle?

Hey all, so Ive been looking for a hobby that I can turn into a small hustle to fund the hobby more. It used to be pokemon but I decided to just ditch that all together way too many jerks now. Ive been getting back into modding fightsticks and my gameplan is to essentially just buy sticks from facebook marketplace mod them up and then sell them at work.(Im a game dev) or online. Im just curious if you think my mods would be worth like a 10$ mark up. I do all of the art using images online and my own graphics library Ive accumulated. I posted some of my mods below. Feel free to be brutal Id rather stop in advance if my stuff aint right. These are all either sticks Ive personally modded or other people have modded with my art designs.

Need some help

Hey guys, so Im an ARPG players. (Maxed multiple Diablo 4 characters over many seasons, played through POE 2 multiples times, Casually enjoyed others like Grim Dawn.) and I consider myself a reasonably seasoned souls player. (Beaten every From soft game from Demon souls release on PS3 multiple times. Yes including sekiro and AC6 although those count less)

Im feeling pretty lost in No Rest for the Wicked (I assume its been shortened to NRW by now so thats what Ill call it)

I started the game and notices that I REALLY enjoyed the fist combat and was extemely delighted when the game showed decent support for that playstyle. So Im jamming that. I just beat the Bandit cheif on top of the bridge and now Im completely lost. The zone Im in just appears to be bandit enemies who I nearly always one shot with spinning kick. However when attempting to go into other zones I get met with a "YO theres level 25 dudes here"

Immmm not sure what I missed? Also the games structure is very very strange. Enemies only respawn on reloading the game along with all the chests? Theres no healing reset at the bonfires? So I have to use resources whenever I want to heal ever? I feel like the game wants me to grind? Which is fine I love grinding but its hard to tell what where and why? I basically just beat the boss continued on and the map direction took me back to the beach.

Any tips or direction would be great.
