Closing in on 800H. Might still make another character though...

I'm closing in on 800 hours of playtime, currently sitting at 757.4 hours on steam. Purchased the game in january. Kinda crazy that all the characters are gonna go bye bye, but oh well...

I still keep finding out stuff I didn't know about and corners I had not seen/explored.

My latest character (Monk) is probably the most difficult and less OP of them all, but really fun. Way more involved and fragile compared to the rest. Next character is gonna be a pure mage with a monk style playstyle since I had a lot of fun using staff for melee which I never did before.

Going cloth armor as well but skipping scream this time. Blink into backstab is too fun and useful to pass up, and I can slap a seismic crush or something else on the staff instead.

I've had the most fun starting from scratch on the new characters, meaning no piggybacking gear and stuff from other characters and a fresh realm. So I imagine it will be as fun when 1.0 rolls out and I have to start from scratch there too. I'm still worried a bit about the changes, but we will see.

Can't wait!

Play now, or wait for 1.0?

As title says.
Me and 2 friends want to play, but are unsure if we should pick it up and play it now, or wait until full release.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated :)

I've been playing for about 2 months now...

And this game in its current incarnation has very quickly become one of my favorite games. It's simultaneously scratching the itch for a crafting game, souls game and Diablo game. I think the combat feels great. The weapons have weight to them and the combat feels slow and deliberate. I'm a long time Monster Hunter player so combat that requires you to look for openings and plan out your strikes is preferred. I think the character creation is open ended yet straightforward. The map and level design is incredible, especially the way it's all interconnected. It makes sense and once you find the fast way through an area, traversal becomes that much easier.

Now for what's coming up in an update. I hear something about classes. I'm not against it. I think it would be a great way to help with an issue Ive had. I was kinda forced into a Strength build. In souls games, I generally prefer Dex builds because it's easier for me to manage my stamina and just not get hit. But everything I picked up initially forced me down that path. And it may end up being that way even with classes, but at least it could provide a better base to start from than a blank canvas. I'm excited for it either way because its going to feel like an entirely new game. And I can't wait for it.

How do I deal with these witches

I love everything about this game except 2 things. The map is unbelievably frustrating and the witches are sooooo hard to kill. I know the second thing is a skill gap so I’m looking for tips. I’ve cleared both bosses with FAR more ease than this dark cave of witches. I have multiple spamming me with ranged attacks while perched up on platforms I can’t figure out how to reach and their melee attacks are really hard for me to get the parry timing on. Is it possible to clear this cave as a melee user? Or do I need to go find/purchase a wand or bow to use range on the ones I can’t reach?

Attribute System Write-off

With the class system overhauling the attribute system does anyone know what the devs’ answer is about how player will scale their stamina, equip load, focus and health?

The Spalled Axe sucks.

Yeah, I'm gonna rant about this "great" axe because god damn does this thing suck ass.

Everything about it, the moveset, the scaling, the lack luster rune attack, no charge attacks, the stamina cost to even swing the damn thing, everything about this axe is not great it's terrible.

It's so bad that I have to rush to Filmore to hopefully get a better great axe since I really like that weapon type, hell compared to the other 2-handed starter weapons you can get your hands on it just sucks even more.

The best example being the first great hammer you could get, The Bud of the Everlasting Tree, is everything that the Spalled Axe wish it was, it deals more damage, has a decent albeit sluggish moveset, stat scaling that doesn't deviate too much from the rest of the great hammers, great charge attacks and a great rune attack.

I know my stat scaling complaint will be null and void when 1.0 comes around, thank God for that btw, but that still leaves a good 3/4's of the rest of my issues with this terrible weapon.

This weapons is just bad man, like really bad.

How bad is high ping?

I'm in NA my friends are in Europe. I've heard this game is soulslike I feel like I'll have a terrible time with the ping. My question is how dependent is the game on parrying/dodging mechanics can I atleast survive on high ping?

I thank my lucky stars that I have found this amazing game

Enjoying it so, so much. Truly can't wait for release so I could play with the rest of the boys, but man the atmosphere is just incredible. Miles away the Madrigal is trying to mess a gate up and it rumbles the earth near Sacrament even. I had to stop and realize that was happening.

Stuff like this isn't new in RPGs, I get that. But when passion like this is poured in I feel its what draws people to the genre. You just get sucked in and are happy to live the experience. Before this clip I was asking myself "I'm preeeetty sure I unlocked the fast travel, why can't I port to it"? Also don't mind the weird shadow pop in. I'm not sure why that happened in the clip when it didn't in my game.

I wonder how many are turn off by the game due to hearing soulslike?

I get it, that's the thing a hard game and you die a lot, but how many have heard soulslike and said no not for me, I don't like challenge and stressful game and not knowing that you can switch to easy mode and have it be a "diablo" easy mode instead?

Sure it's not too easy still, but it's at least managable and having that option a somewhat stressfree run and just having fun...I really hope those who are purely not wanting the game, because it seems too hard, also know there is an easier option and it can also be switched if you want a harder run too

I play on easy mode, it took me 1 year after I bought the game to actually be able to play the game, because it was too difficult for me to play xD but, I love that we have realm tiers, especially for the hardcore players who want it to be even more difficult.

Having options is never a bad thing...I rather say it's opening up for more people to join the fun, no matter what type of gamer you are, wicked as it all (except for shooter and racing things) XD

No Rest For The Wicked Tools now has an Interactive Map

Hey! Interactive map is now available on NRFTW Tools!

https://www.norestforthewicked.gg/map

It's the most comprehensive map currently, because it shows all the stuff there could be on the map based on the player progression. The map in NRFTW is rather dynamic in a sense that it changes based on player progression, e.g. factions spawn in specific regions, some chests / npcs can become unavailable or new could appear etc.

Here's a list of main features:

  • It covers the whole map of NRFTW and shows locations of almost anything you can think of
  • All kinds of markers are placed on the map – chests, npcs, enemies/bosses, all farmable spots (ore veins, trees, fishing spots, dig spots etc.) and much more
  • You can toggle campaign progression in the selector in side panel to view map state at the specific world state; you can click on Main Quests / Side Quests header to quickly select/deselect all of them
  • You can also toggle Pestilence Outbreaks in all map areas
  • You can mark most of important stuff as "found" to hide its markers
  • You can use search panel to quickly find stuff – it's world-state agnostic, so you can look up anything, even if it's not in the currently selected world state
  • Map markers are deep linked to the rest of the site, so you can look up bounty exact locations, e.g. A Savage Pair or view locations of enemies who drop specific items, e.g. Lacquered Bow.

Feel free to reach me in Discord if you have any suggestions, ideas or bug reports.

I just discovered this game recently and not sure if I'd like it or not, so I figured I'd ask here

Weird story, but I came across a video advertising this game having a founder package in my feed on Youtube and then seen it was on sale on the current Steam summer sale while being an ARPG of sorts with some interesting mechanics in it or planned for the future, but I've never really heard of it until just the last week or so to be honest. I understand the combat has more weight to it and seems to be more inline with slower combat like Souls titles compared to most ARPGs that dominate the market these days with screen clears and loot pinatas, but how does the game really feel?

I've played both PoE1 and 2 and felt overwhelmed by the sheer options in making a build, and in PoE2's case, I found out I had a very horrible build recommended by the devs that was really meant for endgame, not for a starter build, so I was very hindered playing that game as a result. I had some fun with D4 afterwords with their Paladin just before the new expansion hit in that season, but it felt more like I was geared to grind the battle pass and RNG on the drops I obtained than the demons of Hell.

I'm also understanding there's like a town / house building element to this game? How's that really work out? I seen it takes real time, but is that only when one is in game, or would three hours out of game suffice to three hours for a project to complete within the game? I seen there's also hunting and gathering, but my experience with D4 really just makes those seem like afterthoughts with hundreds to thousands of items filling my inventory up from those sources by the endgame, so how impactful is the gathering and all in this game?

Having just learnt about the upcoming Class system, it's going for some Final Fantasy Tactics-style where there's a main class of sorts with traits or sub abilities that can be used? If so, that's awesome. I'm guessing that's in October with the 1.0 release?

How's the multiplayer aspect to this? I know most ARPGs are funner with friends along, but I figure I'll probably be playing solo most of the time, so would that be a bad scenario with this game or should I convince friends to come along as well? Is there anything like a guild system or would I just join likely some discord to make friends and coordinate playing now and then for group content?

Finally, the most important question in all of gaming, but can I be a sword and board guy? Something about playing these games with a sword and shield just scratches an itch in my brain on a primal level since Diablo back in the 90s.

Edit - All of these replies just cemented in my mind that this is very much something I need to look into and I thank you all for taking the time to give your feedback and experiences on things. I can probably even talk a friend into buying it due to the friendly fire mechanic of multiplayer just to spice up our gaming sessions sometime.

The Anvil and crafting / research table problem

So The Anvil and crafting / research table display information incorrectly. For example it shows oaken tower shield with 320 defense, 10 required strength and that it will craft item between levels 4-8.

Now I spent all my mats just to get crappy 86 defense shield that requires 26 strength that I don't have

They really need to fix it so it displays correctly because otherwise there is no way of knowing not only of its worth to craft the item but to know if I will be even able to use it

It's possible it displays defence incorrectly because the strength is not met, but still, that would mean there would be inconsistency with weapons where it shows the full damage when requirements are met

Willing to trade for a Tarnished wand

I have (I think) every legendary weapon or ring besides Tarnished wand, and it's just the weapon I need to complete my build. Does anyone want to trade or sell me one?
