Why do so many Chicago drivers ignore stop signs and pedestrian crossing?

Let me preface this by saying I’ve driven a car so this isn’t to spread hate. It just seems like so many car drivers ignore the rules of the road. When I’m on my bike I have to slam on my breaks because car drivers think rules don’t apply to them. Also, why do they drive into my line when the city built them their own dedicated car lane. I’m all for people who drive cars it just seems like if they want others to support more car lanes they should get better at following the rules.

What can be done about large number of mosquitoes where I live?

I reported to 311 but it says they don’t spray on request. I haven’t been able to identify the source but it’s not on the property I live so either public property or someone else’s.

Specifically Uptown has been bad

Are there good resources to find roommates to stay places?

I’m looking for a roommate to stay with in Sitges to split the cost of a hotel room. Any good way to do this? I have a hotel but I’d rather stay at a more expensive one but split the cost if possible.

Extended stay to reduce short sitting requests?

Im tired < 4 day bookings making it harder to get longer bookings. Has anyone used the extended stay discount to try to only get longer bookings? Right now I have it set up so stays over 3 nights are the price I used for all sittings and made my “regular” price much more expensive.

What do you miss about being non-vegan if anything?

I’ve been vegan 10 years and don’t really get cravings for non-vegan stuff but I do kinda miss certain things about being non-vegan. I miss not having to look up if I could eat at certain restaurants (and enjoy myself) and I miss all the cheap on-the-go food. I just wish I could get a vegan sausage and egg biscuit for breakfast anywhere.

Bien Me Sabe - Vegan Patacone is a MUST try

I just need to rave about the Vegan Patacone from Bien Me Sabe. I tried it last night and it is quite literally the best vegan sandwich I have ever had in Chicago. Their Vegan Arepa is also amazing and on Wednesdays the Arepas are $10 (dine in only).

Best cold sandwiches?

Summer is the time for sandwiches in my mind. What are your faves around Chicago?

Plus for tofu or chickpea salad sandwiches, as I haven’t found any in Chicago

I’ll be honest I do not like the smoked tofu club from Chicago Diner, way too little tofu and too much bread.

Why are there so many outdoor cats in uptown?

I’m a dog walker so out and about all day and I see like 10 outdoor cats a day if I’m walking in Uptown. They are cats of all types, some with collars. I try to get pictures to compare to missing cats but have never found one that is a match. I mean it might be why uptown has many fewer rats than say lakeview.

Why are housing studies and policy focused on average rents rather than distribution? Wouldn’t average rent not matter if the standard deviation was so low that the bottom quarter of income earners can’t afford rent?

Media outlets keep touting studies that corporate landlords may lower average rents. However, I’m trying to figure out corporate landlords effects on the bottom quarter of income earners. I want to figure out, when corporate landlords lower the average rent does the standard deviation also decrease, effectively raising prices of the cheapest of units prior to corporate landlords buying or building housing stock.

Broken glass all over Uptown, can anything be done?

I walk dogs in Uptown and many of the areas between the sidewalk and road are riddled with broken glass. It’s extremely difficult to find sections of grass without glass for the dogs to do their business. Now that the grass is getting longer is even harder to spot the slew of broken glass.

Will reporting to 311 do anything? Is there a type of landscaping that could help? Is there a safe way for me to pick it up or cover it quickly?

What are the best local shopping districts in Chicago?

I know of Andersonville, Wicker Park, Pilsen, and Lincoln Square. But what other ones exist. I like shops with local art, thrift stores, handmade stuff, plant stores, etc. I try to avoid places like Lincoln Park and Mag Mile where it feels like you leave Chicago.
