Medical expenses

For this question, you have to suspend disbelief …. my decline will start out uneventful. But I know that’s very unlikely, so no need to reply and tell me it won’t.

Diagnosed but still working. I will resign my job when I get to the cusp of feeling that I can no longer adequately represent my clients (which may be sooner than when I would truly unable to work).
When I resign I won’t have health insurance. In early stages and in a perfect world are there any major medical expenses? I’ve had all the tests, scans, etc.

It’s good that I have the opportunity to plan for what’s to come, but it’s kind of f**ked up.

Maybe I’m Early

55 y.o. diagnosed with Lewy body dementia a month or so ago. Have second opinion at Mayo late September. My diagnosis was based largely upon diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment and the presence of abnormal clumps of alpha-synuclein protein in my spinal fluid. Evidence of Lewy bodies.

I have not experienced hallucinations, REM sleep disturbances, Parkinson like movements, and haven’t lost my sense of smell.

I was having executive function and cognitive issues which I thought might be a result of radiation I received 20+ years ago for a brain tumor, so I decided to see a neurologist. Following a series of tests I received the diagnosis. Alzheimer’s was ruled out.

I didn’t seek treatment because of hallucinations, etc. It was cognitive impairment which was there but not disrupting my life too much although it had been present for a couple of years, slowly getting worse. I’m still working and proceeding through life.

So did I get ahead of it and am just now waiting. Maybe I can find out more at Mayo. They will do all the same tests plus a PET scan.

Anyone have a LO or yourself with similar experience?

Is it really as awful as it sounds

55 yo male recently diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. This is a very awkward question but, is it really as awful as I’ve read in the posts? Are the latter stages always so bad? I don’t want to put my family through that. That’s my only fear or concern. Not myself but them.

Need to control web access

I want a device to block access to gambling and other nefarious websites and control access to our internet. Not just an app or program (eg Bark). I’ve looked into the Firewalla Purple gigabit and it appears to do what I need. Correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t need anything overly complicated and some of the posts make me think it might be.
So what do you think? Is this what I’ve been looking for, because I still haven’t found it.

Suggested reading for patient

I’m 55 yo male and have been recently diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. Have second opinion at Mayo in two months.
Any suggested reading for newly diagnosed? That sounds strange to ask. Honestly don’t even know what I would want to read about the disease or what it will do to me. I know there are books for LO and caregivers but any for the sick?

FWIW. I feel like I’ve been diagnosed in the early phases. Hope to find out more at Mayo.

55 year old with LBD

55 yo male. I was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia about a month ago confirmed with a positive alpha-synuclein assay result from lumbar puncture. No biomarkers for Alzheimer’s. Getting set up for second opinion at Mayo Clinic. My only symptoms are related to mild cognitive impairment.
Although it wasn’t discussed at the time from my reading I would think I’m prodromal. I know the MCI is slowly worsening but have had no other classic symptoms.

Maybe I’m MCI with LB. Don’t think it matters what you call it, they all have the same destination.

Has anyone personally or have a family member who has been diagnosed at this age?

I know there isn’t an answer to this question but it’s one that looms over me. How quickly can I expect this to progress?

3D vertical decor

Just got 48x18x18 enclosure for my leopard gecko and want to add 3D vertical decor for something for Tuco to climb on, across, etc. On each end with it going around the corner onto the back wall.
Would love to see what y’all have done with short explanation of how you did it.

Diagnosis question

54 yo male. I was having cognitive issues (memory, etc) and thought it might have been related to radiation to my brain about 25 years ago, so I went to the neurologist. It wasn’t the case.

I had a number of tests done including neuropsych testing and a lumbar puncture. The testing returned a finding that I had mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The lumbar puncture results were positive for a dementia-related biomarker (alpha-synuclein assay). Lewy body dementia I was told.

I’ve had blood tests for Alzheimer’s which came back negative.

I’m going back Thursday to go over all test results and diagnosis. (Doctor has already said he wants a second opinion and I might get a third).

The only symptom I have is MCI. No hallucinations, acting out my dreams, Parkinson type gate, etc.

Has anyone else or a loved one had similar lack of major symptoms but a positive test for Lewy body? What’s happening? What was your experience?

Anything would be appreciated.

Cognitive impairment

Not sure if anyone here has been through something similar, but I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences.

I’m 54 years old and have practiced law since 1997. I currently work as an attorney for a bankruptcy trustee.

I was recently diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. It appears to be very early, but looking back I suspect I’ve been having symptoms for at least the last year or two.

So far, it has not affected my work in any meaningful way. I can still do my job, and I think I do it well. At the same time, I understand where this disease leads, and I know there will come a day when continuing to work will no longer make sense.

What I am struggling with is how to recognize that day before it arrives.

I don’t want to quit working too soon if I’m still capable of . On the other hand, I don’t want to wait too long and find myself getting anywhere near a point where my judgment, reliability, or effectiveness are being affected.

For anyone who have faced a serious progressive illness, either personally or with a colleague, how did you (or they) know it was time to step back? Were there signs that became obvious? Did you rely on family, colleagues, medical providers, or some combination of all three?

I realize everyone and every diagnosis is different. I’m just trying to think ahead while I still can, rather than waiting until the answer is staring me in the face.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Placement of food and water

Currently Tuco not taking food from tongs. I have a curved container for food and bowl for water. Before getting the clutter and cover right I had food outside of warm/hot hide. Didn’t have full time humid hide at the time. Now he’s mostly in HH. I repositioned bowls there but he doesn’t seem to is eating drinking as he should be. Any suggestions on placement?

POV for playing defense

I’m sure whether to play defense from POV behind offense vs behind defense is personal preference but I’d be interested to hear of any advantages you feel come from one versus the other.

Tuco’s enclosure

I posted Tuco’s enclosure a couple of weeks ago with question why I never see him. His enclosure looked great from a human’s POV but not so for a gecko I was told. I added clutter which goes from side to side. but he still stays in one of two hides all day.
I see pics here all the time with geckos climbing around, moving during daylight hours, etc.
But Tuco doesn’t. He just stays in hides.
Any thoughts on what I can do differently. Here are a couple of pics of his enclosure now.

Why does Tuco never come out?

Leopard gecko Tuco spends his days either in the humid hide or the hot hide. Never see him moving around. I think I have a good setup but he doesn’t get out. He’s probably three or four years old. Any ideas, tips or suggestions? Pics of the tank.

All SEC dynasty league?

Is there a league that is all SEC with final championship being the SEC championship? Maybe a four team playoff into championship.
