AIO for being asked to bring the main dish to SIL’s house an hour away?
She always wants to host because she does not want to lug her 3 kids around. She lives an hour away, so I have to drive 2 total hours. She asks the group that is coming to her house (when she insisted on hosting) and asked someone to bring the main dish, hamburgers for 8 adults and 8 kids, and she’ll get the sides.
I’m not mad about the money, it’s the audacity to ask to host then to ask someone else to buy the main food. I just don’t think she should host. And she hosts often. So I usually bring a good beer that I know they like and a side. Personally I like hosting, but my place is smaller so everyone prefers their house.
So, AIO when I think it’s ridiculous to be asked to drive an hour each way and also provide the main dish?
P.S. If you need more info for better judgment then ask away. I tried to give what I thought was important.
Edit: there are other family members around that can host. I like to host and I think it’s fine at my place. It’s not as big and her kids run like wild animals.
I think a conversation should be had. Not a demand for burgers. This family’s arrangement (for the last four years at least) has been the host makes the main dish and the other’s bring sides. I don’t agree she’s should only host. I tried to “host” at a different sister’s house and have us all together but that didn’t happen.
More than a year ago I mentioned she shouldn’t be the only one to host. She said she’d rather host, buy the main dish, and be home than to drive to someone’s house. So I quit feeling bad. Now BAMB, buy me burgers.
I’m going to bring some of my favorite brats over and see what happens. Gotta love the in laws.
