[i3] Alacritty + Vim + Bash + C++ without LeetCode

[i3] Alacritty + Vim + Bash + C++ without LeetCode

A shitpost because I generally don't care about dotfiles, rices, etc.

Anyways, nothing fancy, but I usually code in a proper IDE called VS Code for bigger programs/projects and don't use that dogshit platform called LeetCode because I am a real programmer who uses the old-fashioned way which is reading books and documentation (I know reading is scary) and write useful tools.

Also, zsh is inferior to bash.

Ongoing Abuse of an Adopted Adult

Hello,

I do apologize if this isn't the right sub, but I have nowhere else to go, and I rather not go into many details, but I was adopted from Russia at five years old and have reconnected with my birth family. Currently, I'm 26 years old and being abused/neglected by my mother and sibling who was adopted along with me in a sibling pair. This has been ongoing for years at this point, but it somehow has gotten worse since I turned 19/20 and just keeps getting worse.

I was moved shortly after my birthday to one half of the house where a door is set up that can be locked on the other side... it has been used whenever I misbehave, and sometimes I go days without any sort of interaction from the other side. I come and go through the garage. My mother doesn't care at all for me, and I am probably underweight due to essentially being starved.

I have been trying to get a job and finish school, but running into many roadblocks mostly cuz of no support from my mother or anyone else.

My sibling has been weaponizing the door and threatening to lock me down here again when I even mildly annoy her and even went as far as one time almost pushing me down the stairs because I was in the kitchen making food, and she got pissy that I was using the microwave... I didn't make any noise, and she just came down in the middle of it. There is more abuse going on, but it has been happening on and off for years with it always following a pattern... she moves back home and the abuse starts out small, but escalates. I really don't want to go into more details about all of it...

The embassy here is impossible to contact and my grandma in Russia asked about me, and they told her they can't help me in any way. I have some people that I'm friends with online who are helping me pay for food and other expenses, but there isn't anything they can do since most of them are dealing with their own health problems or aren't financially stable...

Food banks are pretty much out of my reach due to the shitty public transportation where I live which makes a twenty-minute trip take 1 to 2 hours both ways. They're also in not so good areas that aren't along bus routes so the walk is just cumbersome.

I'm also disabled, but my state doesn't have a functioning government and most of their services for abuse of an adult is for the elderly. I've been denied disability benefits because I quote "not disabled enough so not entitled to the benefits".

I'm honestly stuck and don't know what to do at this point... my sibling doesn't treat me like I am human, and my mother is a catholic conservative...

Mudita Kompakt - To Good to be True?

Hello,

Accidentally ran into this minimalist dumbphone thing and it seems to good to be true so wondering from anyone who actually used it as a daily drive or second device, is it legitimate and if it is, is there a possibility of modding it or nah? Main concern is the updates wouldn't be rolled out for very long and I much rather flash a custom ROM on it to extend longevity.

The device: https://mudita.com/products/phones/mudita-kompakt/

Seems to work in NA and has USB Type C which is something I must have.

I would much prefer a QWERTY physical keyboard, but that seems like not an option yet (waiting on the Communicator to come out).

Thicker Belts for Cargo Pants

Hello,

A while ago I found Propper cargo pants that fit what I wanted which is mostly no velcro, cheap, and durable.

Currently, I wear a leather belt that I bought off of Amazon, but realized it doesn't work well with my cargo pants so wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a belt that is thicker and fits better on the waist that isn't a tactical belt?

I prefer leather, but open to anything that would work and is also durable.

What has This Sub Become?

Hello,

Been noticing an influx of very stupid posts for the love of god, has there been an infestation of low room temperature mouth breathers? Our enemies want us divided.

Image unrelated.

First Gel Pen

Hello,

My order came in. :D

Not really sure what to think about this since this pick wasn't planned and the design is what caught my eye. First gel pen. I bought extra refills for it, but it looks nice, feels nice, etc.

Only complaint is that when I was testing it, it did feel scratchy on the paper.

I think the design fits well, and maybe I will like it, but I don't have any experience with gel pens since they're usually not my preference. It does remind me of my pilot pens that I adored before I went down this rabbit hole so they might be similar...

Hello,

My order came in. Still not great at taking pictures, but they're gorgeous.

My first impressions are:

Glad I chose the light blue color, it looks nice. It is mostly all plastic so concerned the insides might be a bit flimsy, but I don't think it will be a big issue. 0.3 mm doesn't feel too different yet from my 0.5 mm ones and the mechanism is what I was curious about the most because I'm a nerd and something so simple yet so effective was just interesting to learn about and examine.

I do like the artwork and coloring of the snoopy Delguard, but noticed I can't untwist the tip part which I found odd because I can on the regular Delguard.

I did test both to feel the writing. I think there is different lead in the snoopy one since it feels a bit softer, but both write well, and the tip is surprisingly sturdy.... a bit too sturdy to what I'm used to, but it is the same feeling to my Pentel Graph Gear 1000 Pro thing.

Plastic feels sturdy enough, but the lack of a grip might annoy me at some points.

I did buy some Uni 0.3 mm lead so itching to use it since I haven't used this kind before and hoping it doesn't cause problems. I also finally bought the three pack of Campus notebooks I've been wanting and happy with how soft the paper feels which probably would make writing feel much better.

I did notice how the tip doesn't extend that much, but I already knew this when I bought it and not going to be using it for anything that requires precise lines or something like that...

Copying from other subs and might be asking for too much, but I got an idea from somewhere and would like a leather bound journal with lots of pages. Something that I can just write and jot things down like my thoughts. I'm not looking to commission or hunt people down on etsy or whatever... I just want a notebook that matches the closest to what I want.

I don't particularly like the string thing around most leather journals and would like a flap or a snap on button that feels durable and looks nice. I also don't want it too small either, but also not too large. It should be easy to pack into most bags without taking up a lot of room.

The paper should be able to not bleed through with a ballpoint pen.

My budget isn't very large, but I want something of good quality, durable, ages well, and a pretty thick feeling spine as well and feel durable in my hands which usually means a bit of thickness if that makes sense.

I did manage to find a notebook at Barnes & Nobles that matches the closest: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/brown-monastery-refillable-italian-leather-journal-barnes-noble

And something similar to that one is what I'm looking for.

Probably asking for too much, but I like the form factor. I would like a similar bag that is durable and doesn't stick out. A front pocket that is actually useful is also nice since many front pockets on the fancy bags are stiff and don't expand a lot. Some organization in front pocket for pens, pencils, mini notepad, etc.

Main compartment should fit a handful of my electronics, but would like organization specifically for ethernet, usb cords, etc.

Room for a journal would be nice as well.

YKK zippers is a must, but they shouldn't be too stiff and water resistant is nice. Strap should be comfortable and maybe allow to put the bag close to the body for easier carrying especially if I am like running to catch a bus or similar.

Budget is currently unknown, but what I want is something that shouldn't cost an organ or a few.

Hello,

Just put in an order for two Zebra DelGuard in 0.3 mm, in the light blue and clear snoopy. As usual, siking myself out a bit after ordering since I didn't check reviews that much before ordering and just want a 0.3 mm pencil in my collection. I did read an article on JetPens and Zebra DelGuards seem like they're pretty good for what I want.

I am seeing mixed reviews. Some people like it and others have issues. Since it is 0.3 mm, I do expect some problems due to how small the lead is, but since it has a lead protection mechanism, I am assuming this isn't as a big issue as on other pencils?

I did also order three packs of Uni Smudge-Proof Lead in HB 0.3 mm. Not sure if that is correct lead or does it not really matter as much?

Hopefully both writes well and are purdy.
