cat hiding for two days and not eating

i'm not home and haven't been home the past couple days. my mom is with my cat and let me know last night that he has been hiding since yesterday morning. last night around midnight he came out and ate a few treats but that was it, he usually won't miss a meal. he's been hiding all day today and she can't find him but is sure he's in the house/didn't get out.

i'm not able to get home until after midnight tonight to check on him, but there have been fireworks going off at our house so i'm thinking that's why he's hiding. does anyone have experience with cats hiding over fireworks for two days??

where would you live if looking for somewhere between coastal and country?

my dream would be a couple acre farm house within walking distance from the ocean, with a big city in driving distance. not sure how possible that is but looking for recommendations!

preferably east coast but i'm open to anywhere but biggest priority is by an ocean

AITA for wanting to move the dog and cat 1000 miles away from my mom?

I (21f) am planning to move across the country as soon as I finish college. My parents are divorced and my siblings live with our dad most of the time, so this would leave my mom alone.

I plan to take my pets with me but my mom is mad because the cat was gotten as a family pet (I pay vet bills, food, and do all the care). The dog is mine (Again I pay all his bills and do all his care) but is a big dog that makes her feel safer I guess (she complains about him all the time and he's a high energy breed that would be impossible to manage if I didn't train/exercise him the way I do). So I think it's only fair I take MY animals with me but she doesn't agree and thinks i'm being an asshole for taking them away?

I've been dog sitting my sister's puppy a few times a week during the day, because i'm home and I already have a dog so why not. My problem is the "puppy" is now about to turn a year old and is still using the bathroom in the house constantly.

At this point i've basically told her she can leave the puppy at home in a crate if it's not potty trained soon. Obviously it sucks for the puppy that it'd have to be alone a lot more but my dog NEVER has accidents so I don't want to deal with a dog that is constantly having accidents all over my house.

The puppy also barks at everything (her and her boyfriend never take it on walks/training) so i've stopped taking it on walks/stores with my dog when it's here, and I have to put my dogs favorite toys up because the puppy will destroy them. So honestly at this point i'm just fed up with having to deal with an untrained dog that isn't even mine.

I'm a college student. I hate the state that I live in and plan to move to the east coast as soon as I graduate. I've started saving money and planning for when I eventually move.

My mom thinks i'm being unfair because I would be moving 1000+ miles away and she would basically be alone (divorced parents, one sibling already moved out close by and the other spends most of the time at our other parents).

What made her even more mad is I told her that I would be taking my cat and dog (I do 100% of their care, pay for everything, and vet bills are in my name). I assumed this was a given because they are my animals and she complains if I even ask her to watch them for one night? The cat was originally a family pet (back when I was in middle school) so she thinks I can't just take him, and doesn't want me to take my dog because I guess having a big dog in the house makes her feel safer.

I just think i'm not an asshole for wanting to bring my own animals with me when i'm moving across the country, especially when they wouldn't receive the same level of care as they do now if she kept them
