Would someone tell me what I killed?

Woke up today with this thing next to me on the wall, I slowly reached for whatever I could grab first (a dvd case) and executed it. I’ve never seen anything like it, is this a giant mosquito? Whatever it is it’s huge and scared the daylight out of me. What a thing to wake up next too. This is in the UK.

Going to give it a proper shot

For 5 years I’ve been trying to lose weight, end up doing the opposite. I need desperate help and I’m going to try and give it the best go I can this time. I’m 5ft 10, around 225lbs and I’m trying to get to about 160lbs maybe less we’ll see.

How can i successfully do this, I want to finally look forward to summer and not dread it.

I realise that only cardio may not be the greatest idea for me

So I’ve been trying to lose weight for 5 years now, just on and off diets, deficits, ‘lock in’ moments that last a week. In February I bought a gym membership but I’ve only been doing cardio and interestingly enough I haven’t actually lost anything, if anything I think I’ve gained I was 220lbs now I’m 225lbs. So here’s the thing, I realise the deficit needs to happen but I think I also need to implement weightlifting, I do cardio because I don’t have the confidence to approach the lifting area but I can’t keep going like this where I pay a fair amount of money per month and get no results.

How would I be able to establish a working lifting routine for me?

I bought this nutritional scale on Amazon and I can’t seem to find a concrete number, the app the scale offers says 2500, TDEE calculator says 1900, ChatGPT says 2100. Then the protein, carbs and fats are all differently proportionated on all 3 websites.

Which one do I choose? I’m 225lbs, 181cm, light activity.

I’m in the UK, I finished school July 2025 and have been on a gap year. I’m starting university October 1st taking up Global Politics and International Relations. After that, I don’t really know. Life seems to be getting pretty serious from here and though I’m an adult on paper in reality I don’t have a clue on how the world works or what I want to do with my time here.

I guess the basic goal would be graduating and landing up in a respected, safe and well paying job. The type of job where bills are paid, rent is paid, fridge is full and a little money left on the side. What that job will be though is a mystery, I feel like I have 10 million things to learn and don’t know where to start, truth be told a small reason why I’m going to university is because I’m scared of what’s outside these walls of comfort, going back into education is safe for me, I know the jist of it and it feels like I have a purpose, control, a way of life I know.

I’m just pretty lost in the fog though, does it get better? I hope so.
