Adult daughter raging alcoholic and possibly mentally ill as a result.

I have been through hell with my daughter. she is now 45 and cannot keep job, her alcoholism has affected her health, she has lost custody of children and she texts me constantly telling me what a bad mon I am, and then the next minute she tells me she loves me and doesnt want to worry me. I feel so bad bc I know she has mental issues, but won’t admit it. she sends texts that this is her last text to me, insinuating she will kill herself.. then I don’t hear from her for days, and I just cannot take anymore.

I think I handle it pretty healthy ..I know I can’t change her and I stopped enabling her, and I a way I know these texts are cries for help, but I am at a loss. I have been trying to live my own life, and most days am fine, but then another incident happens and I am in a tizzy. she is pitiful, crying out for love one minute, mean as a snake another minute and to be honest I want out. I want to say call me in 3 years.

what I really want to tell her is no more texting me. that she can call once or twice a week but no more texts, bc she has expectations of how I should respond and she reads into my silence and then says she sorry she bothers me and I will never hear from her again, and sends a “last” picture.

would not texting be a healthy boundary to set? I can do phone calls occasionally.

I am just broken now and needed to vent.

Barefoot Hikers

I currently wear Xero shoes and they are barely wide enough for my triple wide foot. I need a trail hiking low shoe, and heard that the Xero hikers are narrower than the regular shoes. Any recommendations for a hiker that runs extra wide?

Thanks!

Magnesium Question

Can someone please educate me on the different forms of magnesium and what is needed to take along with my D3 10,000 IU (per doctor). And do I need K with it?

Believe it or not, I have my degree in Holistic Nutrition, but so much has changed in 25 years and since I have retired, I have forgotten so much. I am not ashamed to ask😊 though. I am a believer in getting as much as I can from food, but circumstances have required me to supplement D.

Actually my functional med doc wants me to take 25,000 I U D3, but can’t seem to agree to that dosage just yet until I have researched

Thanks!

I had a PE in August possibly provoked by car travel. I am 72. Last week I was put on Maintenance dose of 2.5 twice daily. Next week, I am taking my first car trip after 9 months of no travel and asked hemo doctor if I should go back to 5 mg for the week of my trip and he said no need to. i have read that other doctors have said otherwise. Just wanted to ask what others have done in this situation. I still have some 5 mg left.
Thanks!

I had my PE last August, possibly provoked by long car ride. I am now on maintenance dose of Eliquis..

When I asked my hemo doctor about genetic testing, he said that bc of my age (72) that if it were genetic, something would have happened earlier in my life? He did test me for something with the word Lupus, but that came out negative.

Have you all heard of a doctor saying that? He also said I had no need for compression socks, that they do not prevent clotting and I have no swelling. I had another doctor say no need for compression socks? I bought some anyway for my upcoming car trip

I guess that as long as I am on DOAC, maybe genetic testing doesn’t matter bc I would still be doing the same treatment.

Thanks all!

you all were very helpful with my last post, and now I am confident in wearing barefoot shoes going forward, what brand would you say has the widest toe box? Right now I wear Xero, but would like to find another brand for variety, and possibly one that might be a tad wider than Xero.

Thanks!

I had two podiatrists tell me I should not go barefoot or wear barefoot shoes bc of my high arches and my age (72) I spent several hundred dollars on orthotics and triple wide shoes but could never wear them bc could never get used to them. i have worn Birkenstock for years with no problem and even walk long distance with them.

I finally got some Xero shoes and alternate those with Birks and I have to tell you I have no knee pain or leg pain when I wear either.

I keep hearing doctor voice tell in me I will ruin my feet, but then I am thinking why don’t I just do what feels best?! duh.

I did put a small arch support in my Xero shoes but not my orthotics.

I actually spent a lot of money on Hokas but they hurt the worst!

any thoughts?
