I took 500 MG of Magnesium Glycinate and had energy all day after just 3-4 hours of sleep. SIde effects?

Age: 31M
Height: 5'11
Weight: 175 lbs
Race: White
Current medications: None
Drink / Smoke: No

So I started taking about 200mg of Magnesium Glycinate per day and I noticed I had a lot more energy throughout the day. But I saw online that you're actually supposed to take closser to 500-1000 mg.

I kept upping the dosage. One night I noticed I only got like 3.5 hours of sleep and during the following day I took 500mg and I noticed I had energy all day.

I guess I'm just wondering if there's any potential side effects to this? I'm also wondering if maybe the fact that I have more energy proves that I really did have a magnesium deficiency.

I stopped taking it for about a week to let my body get normal rest. But I'm thinking of going back to just 200mg / day (100 in the morning, 100 at night). I guess I'm just wondering if there are side effects or not.

Magnesium glycinate responsible for loose stools

Started taking magnesium glycinate for stress. 400mg on the first day and the next day I had an upset stomach, cramps and passed a way softer stool than usual. I'm mostly constipated ( I do have regular BMs) but I do NOT want softer bowel movements at all.

I cannot switch or replace my supplement.

How do I prevent this? Has anyone dealt with this and found a fix? Please share your experience

Trouble with potassium

Hello, I'm trying to figure out why I'm super sensitive to potassium. Could it be because I'm low in magnesium? My potassium/sodium levels are normal. Not sure about magnesium. Just curious if anyone had side effects from eating a high potassium diet. I cook every night and make sure I'm adding salt.
I experience headaches, fatigue, metallic taste in my mouth and joint pain.
Not currently taking magnesium.
Thank you so much!
Amy

Is 450mg citrate a safe dose?

It’s not elemental, I’ve been taking 300 a day for years, but I have bad anxiety and constipation at the moment so am thinking of taking 450mg.

I don’t want to mess up my electrolytes and I know people will say it’s absolutely fine, but I thought I’d check first.

I’m drinking half the coffee I used to and I cannot for the life of me poop! Plus it’s helping my anxiety today as I took an extra 75mg…

Any advice appreciated!

Does anyone take more than 800 mg of elemental magnesium? Is it safe? So much conflicting info.

Was taking 500 mg for migraines for 2 years and it stopped working. Keep trying to increase dose and it works for a little bit but then stops working again. Wondering if I have to keep increasing it. I’ve read on Reddit that some people are on 1000 mg for migraines/mental health and feel ok. Others on here say it’s unsafe and you shouldn’t go past 800 mg or less. Online says it’s even less that’s safe. I’m considering asking my neurologist.

Anyone know the correct answer? I don’t want to increase it if it will put my health at risk. Would love to hear from people who are on higher doses long term, and medical professionals who know the answer.

magnesium L-threonate + bisglycinate complex

Anyone else stack magnesium L-threonate + bisglycinate?
Been doing this for about 6 weeks…2 caps in the morning, 2 more at night before bed. Honestly not sure how much is placebo but my sleep has been noticeably better and the brain fog I had every afternoon has basically disappeared. Less anxious too. Just curious if anyone else runs this combination or if I’m just lucky with timing/placebo.

Magnesium deficiency causing acid reflux?

Hi! I'm not saying it's DEFINITELY this, but I'm just curious if anyone else has ever heard of anything like this.

So I take Vitamin D3 every day, along with Magnesium. However, due to upset stomach and experiencing anhedonia from higher amounts, I cut down to only 125mg of Magnesium daily. Due to the lower amount of supplemental mag I can tolerate, I also lowered my D3 amount from 5,000 IU down to 2,000 IU a day.

Well, recently I decided to bump my D3 up to 4,000 IU (but I did NOT bump my magnesium up higher) and 2 specific things happened within days of the bump...

  1. I started getting bad acid reflux, which I have only experienced maybe 3 or 4 times in my entire life as far as I'm aware before this. The acid reflux only dissipated when I scaled back my D3 down to 2,500 a day.

  2. I got a stye in my eye, which I've gotten in the past within days of big Vitamin D fluctuations. Looking online, it says styes can be caused by hormonal shifts, which D3 does cause in me, so perhaps that's what caused that?

So I'm curious - is it possible that the higher D3 and lower Mag was causing a mag deficiency and that gave me acid reflux, or some other deficiency possibly caused it? It felt awful, and while I do want to take a higher D3 amount, I absolutely can't put up with the acid reflux.

How much magnesium is too much for a woman?

I am 39F and I’ve recently started having jaw pain and very annoying ear muscle spasms. I’ve taken magnesium citrate in the morning and magnesium glycinate in the evening for a while but since taking a mid day dose too it has really helped with the spasms - they have calmed down so much. Howeve, with the mid day dose added in I am taking roughly 750mg elemental magnesium per day. Is that too high? Will I likely start experiencing issues? I am 168cm tall and 60kg
