Lake Red Rock before/after (and lost towns)

I've had an interest lately in dam-formed lakes and comparing them with historical maps from before the lake was formed. Today, I put up on my website Lake Red Rock, using modern aerial photography and a topographical survey map from 1912 that shows the now-submerged towns of Red Rock, Cordova, Dunreath, Rousseau, Fifield, and Coalport.

I put it on my website because that's the best, easiest way for me to post and share the files. It has a before/after slider so you can zoom in and do some comparisons. Enjoy!

"Lake Onalaska" circa 1931

I was digging through some old maps at UW-L and came across an old one showing what would become Lake Onalaska from 1931.

I put it on my website and overlayed it with a modern Google Earth photo. It gives interesting insight into what lays under the lake.

Just won the kind of race you dream of in a photo finish! (Replay of last 5 laps)

Using my official writer’s account to post this because my real name is on the replay.

Oh man, it was so much fun!
