[WTS/WTT] [USA] 2012 BaiShaXi "Fu Zhuan Cha" Heicha, Golden Flowers - 400g

Purchased from KTM in May. Paid around $15 plus shipping, opened but never used.

Didn't realize this tea is not celiac-safe due to wheat being used for inoculation of the golden flowers.

Preferably looking to trade for ~$20 equivalent of anything (love sheng, oolong, and red). Willing to sell also - $20 shipped seems fair.

Neetsfoot oil smell neutralizer?

I used neetsfoot oil on a veg-tan toiletry bag and after months it still has a very strong beefy smell. Probably should have gone with oilve oil on this one...

Bag is already dyed, sealed and finished. So far, I've only tried leaving a scrap of leather drenched in cedar oil inside. Didn't really do much with this one but worked out nicely in the chrome-tan version I did.

Any way I can greatly lessen or neutralize the odor? Or is the bag destined for pens and pencils?

Sheng - Bitter vs Astringent

Earlier in my puerh journey, I read here that if you don't like sheng at first, just keep drinking it and it will grow on you. This has turned out to be completely true for me.

I had a quick gongfu session before work one morning (I believe it was the 2016 XiaGuan "Lv Se Sheng Tai") and found myself craving the huigan for hours after. Since then, I have been seeking that delightful bitterness and diving deeper into different shengs.

  1. Is there a difference between what is described as "bitter" and "astringent"?

My understanding is that bitter is a flavor - I find it delicious, like a hoppy beer, as it leads to huigan - and astringent is a feeling - biting into and drying out the palate (reminds me of over-brewed black tea bags that turn so many westerners off from tea).

  1. What are good recommendations for bitter (if I'm describing that right) shengs? I like strong tea, so in a perfect world, a low-cost daily-drinker sheng that can be thrown generously into a thermos, without getting astringent is ideal.

So far, I'm seeing that there is more bitterness in young shengs, but some can also be a bit grassy, almost reminding me of yerba mate (not ideal). They can also be over-brewed more easily and become astringent. My favorite so far is the white2tea 2023 941.

I welcome any correction and insight into the terms and thoughts I have so far. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else go grandpa-style with sheng?

8g of w2t's 2022 941

Still newer to puer, but I had been reserving grandpa-style for shou exclusively, as I really love sheng in smaller gaiwan sessions. I think I like grandpa sheng just as much now, though the longevity significantly less.

This 941 from w2t is an excellent daily-drinker. Mellowed 4 years to soften the edges a bit. Not too challenging or intense, but highly energetic! Notes of hops and honeysuckle - fresh and easy drinking. Cheers.
