Question for the PJ's who went Physician Assistant

33, first responder (fire, ems, pd) for well over a decade. Currently just in the gym working my way to a solid IFT score and get my foot in the door. While im doing this, Im also submitting my applications for PA school. Im looking to go into air national guard with a PJ contract. Since im already a medic, I was told I get to skip that portion of the pipeline. Heres my question.... Is it shitty to get through training, show up to your unit and then be like "oh hey I differed PA school a year to graduate the pipeline, I start PA in a few months". I want to take this next step in my career but I also know im 33, probably wont be solid until im 34 and trying to navigate life with a plan. If i was still 20 id say full send, who cares, PA can wait but at this stage, things need to be a bit more surgical. If I could do one then the other and hit 37ish as a PJ and PA id be pretty happy with how things were going.

let me know your thoughts. No, PJ isnt to get me into school. I have enough PCT hours as well as other things that I feel I have a solid resume and PS. And thats not a cocky thing thats just talking to a few recruiters and getting help along the way. I wanna do whats right by the homies but i also gotta take care of myself in this process. Please let me know what you think.

Yall dont... party?

So im 35... and i just read on another feed that gen Z never had their "fun party stage" of life and its just wild to me... how? I just dont understand. When i was 16 I was drunk in a field somewhere shooting my shot with an older girl. We had teen dance clubs and were all sneaking into bars at 19/20. I mean... half the senior girls in our grade were dating college guys. Literally most of us at some point experienced a project x type of night, some people even a few times. Clubs were a blast, everyone danced all the time, no one cared about bottle service... I just dont understand why yall dont just have an outlet. Did something take its place?

Any Austere Medicine PA's? Any digital Nomad PA's?

Looking to get in touch with any of the above. 18 years in EMS/fire and now applying for the next cycle. Pretty pumped to get into school and learn more and get to that PA title. The dream after school is to start traveling. Im single with no kids and just want to take advantage of it... I have a buddy who started working for the US State Department as a PA and says he loves it... so it made me think are there any other PA's out there doing something similar? I know CIA has a dope PA position. I also heard PA is becoming a little more recognized in the world. Are any of you digital nomads bouncing from country to country and practicing? How about Austere or humanitarian? Would love to hear from everyone. Thanks!

Any older applicants?

Applying to the next cycle at 34 with about 18 years EMS/Fire and some PD. Undergrad is 2.9 GPA. Finishing off my pre-req sciences should be like a 3.2. Anyone else in the same position/experience? Not nervous just pretty stoked I finally saw the light and taking the next step. EMS is great, definitely a pre-hospital person, but at a certain point, you just gotta grow from that medic spot and learn more. A lot of my drive is wanting to go work in humanitarian or federal (like state department or CIA) Met a few buddies who got into it and they love every second. Also, for those with some time in the EMS world and burnt out... with AI it seems like a lot of that younger generation is jumping to medical which is cool, we need the manpower. But It just means its time for anyone with 15+ years in EMS to elevate themselves and make room for those younger people to come into EMS and get christened and ruined like we did ahah. Anyway, just super stoked to apply and hopefully get into the place I want to apply to.

Funding

How are you guys handling trying to find funding for things?

Without trying to give anything away, I've finally solved a critical epidemic in the nation, and I'm in a great place with proof of concept, but without finding funding for a functional prototype in order to collect some concrete data, no one will bite (and in this field, rightfully so, I understand). What's everyone doing to try to solve this? I got laid off two weeks ago and Im just so stuck with how to progress, idk what to do.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have seen the light... and I now have peace.

So, like most of you... I have always enjoyed the breakdown of EDC's / this vs that arguments. I have sat around plenty of campfires and argued things till I was blue in the face, just like everyone else. and I am here to tell everyone this...

I have seen the .380 edc light and I am now at peace with it all. I started to edc a little smithy bodyguard 2.0 for fun. It was a gift, it was for shits and giggles and the more I dove into it, the more I hit the range with it, did ballistics with it, the more it just, well... clicked.

This is not to argue that each weapon/caliber doesn't have a time and place. This isn't a "my cal is better than yours" but when it comes to EDC, by god... .380? why tf not.

So I'm here to tell you that when you get past all the double-stack micro 9's and mini 2011's, there is a land of less, and by God, you will find peace and tranquility in it. From an all-time Glock and Stacatto guy... .380 is the way...

That is all. Thank you.

KNow what would be dope...

I am nearing my 35th birthday and it will also mark 20 years as a first responder. Im single, no kids, and I think i want to live out my dream of surfing. know what would be dope? surfing the shorline of every single coastal country in the world. Just taking a gap to go and travel to each little spot possible. Spend a day or two, meet the people, catch a wave and keep it pushin. I wonder if its ever been done.
